Chapter 8 The Troublemaker

  • After telling a servant to look after Jojo, Shawn headed towards his study. As he walked, he called out, "Find a doctor for her. I'll check on her later."
  • "Alright, Mr. Shawn really cares about Madam," the old butler smiled
  • Shawn furrowed his brows and kept silent.
  • The old butler, Arthur Clement, was fondly called Arthur by everyone. He had served Shawn's grandfather and now looked after Rupert. Rupert had likely called Arthur back to keep an eye on them...
  • "Arthur, it's late. You should get some rest," Shawn said.
  • "Okay," Arthur replied.
  • Shawn impatiently rubbed his forehead. Jojo was truly a troublemaker!
  • Meanwhile, Jojo was enjoying a bubble bath, her eyes full of joy. She never expected that being kidnapped would lead her to such a luxurious house! Could this be considered a blessing in disguise? This bathtub must have cost thousands!
  • After soaking for over half an hour, Jojo realized she had forgotten to bring a towel. Fortunately, she was alone in the room. She cautiously got out of the tub, planning to sneak over to the sofa where the towel was. Suddenly, she heard hurried footsteps at the door.
  • "Jojo, where are you?"
  • "I'm not here right now. Please don't come in!" Jojo was startled by Shawn's voice and hurried forward, but her hand caught in the towel, and she almost fell.
  • Oh no...
  • She closed her eyes tightly, but instead of hitting the ground, she felt a faint scent of mint and realized she hadn't fallen. Jojo opened her eyes and found herself hugging Shawn's lean waist!
  • "Haven't had enough? Shall I help you down?" Shawn's eyes had a mysterious glint.
  • Jojo immediately let go of him. "If you hadn't come in suddenly, I wouldn't have been scared and fallen! It's your fault, not mine."
  • Shawn frowned, but his eyes inadvertently scanned her slender body. Jojo quickly wrapped the towel tightly around herself, but her bare feet were still on the cold floor.
  • Her toes turned red and rubbed together.
  • Shawn's mind stirred, and he slowly approached her, "So, do I have to pay you for mental damages as well?"
  • "Well, that's not impossible..." Jojo said, stepping back. "Mr. Lawson, can you please keep your distance? You... make me a little scared."
  • "You're scared, too?" Shawn suddenly moved closer.
  • His hot breath brushed her face, filled with male intensity.
  • Jojo was on the verge of tears. Isn't it said that women line up to be with him? Might he really be losing control?
  • "Mr. Lawson, remember our contract marriage prohibits any real relationship!" Jojo blurted out.
  • Shawn, seeing her flushed face and flickering eyes, felt mischievous. "Are you dressed like this to seduce me?"
  • Ridiculous!
  • Jojo boldly retorted, "Alright! If you really want that, it comes at a price! Ten million per time. Pay upfront!"
  • "Haha!" Shawn laughed. She was indeed after money, using every tactic to get it. The emotions in Shawn's eyes faded. How could he have mistaken her for the woman on the train that night...
  • Shawn suddenly lost interest.
  • He gave Jojo a cold glance. "I've handed over the men who abducted you to the authorities. Deal with whoever you crossed on your own; I have no time for your issues."
  • "Oh..." Jojo felt dejected.
  • She had thought her father left her behind out of necessity, but now she knew he allowed Veronica to abduct her and sell her. They were so heartless!
  • Shawn noticed Jojo's sadness but saw her quickly compose herself, blinking her large clear eyes. "Mr. Lawson, I haven't eaten all day. I'm starving!"
  • "Worrying about her is truly unnecessary!" Shawn muttered.
  • The family doctor arrived and treated Jojo's wound. "Mr. Lawson, Miss Jojo's wound is not severe, but she has many old injuries. She shouldn't overexert herself."
  • "Very well, you may leave."
  • Old injuries?
  • Shawn remembered his grandfather mentioning that Jojo had saved his life when she accompanied her grandmother to gather herbs. Her family must have lived a hard life. She probably came to the capital to make a living.
  • Feeling a rare twinge of sympathy, Shawn instructed the kitchen to prepare more food.
  • At dinner, Jojo ate heartily. "Wow, this is delicious! Mr. Lawson, why aren't you eating?"
  • "I'm satisfied," Shawn replied, his throat tightening as he watched her eat.
  • Jojo then eyed his untouched shrimp and crab. "If you're not eating, can I have it?"
  • "You eat so much. Are you insatiable?" Shawn remarked coolly.
  • Jojo shrunk back, not responding. If you don't want to give it, just say so.
  • Shawn's phone rang. He went to the study to answer the call. Jojo noticed the servant about to discard the leftovers and quickly grabbed them for herself. She was eating for two, after all.
  • After eating, Jojo took a nap on the plush bed. In her dream, she revisited that night. The man pinned her down, demanding recklessly. She tried to resist, but her hands were bound. No, she couldn't just give up.
  • "You pervert, I'll bite you to death!"
  • Suddenly, her forehead throbbed with pain.
  • Jojo opened her eyes to see Shawn's cold eyes staring at her. She snapped, "Why are you hitting my head? It hurts! And why are you in my room?"
  • Shawn sneered, noticing her act. "Does it hurt?"
  • "Of course, why don't you try hitting yourself?" Jojo pouted.
  • She then noticed Shawn's red wrist. Had he been bitten?
  • Shawn's expression darkened. "So, which hurts more? Hitting your head or being bitten by a rabid dog?"
  • You're the rabid dog and so is your whole family!
  • "You didn't knock before entering my room, yet you blame me. Admit it. I shouldn't have bitten you, but calling me a dog is too much."
  • Jojo muttered, "I wonder if you did something while I was asleep."
  • "What's on your mind?" Shawn asked.
