Chapter 6
- I had no plans to go home until I was sure the Campbells were gone. I also had no plans to talk to anyone at home either, but when Olivia would not stop buzzing my phone up with calls, I had no option but to speak to her.
- "You should get back home, Olive," she said the moment I picked up the call.
- "Do I not deserve a hi for picking up your call?" I answered.
- "This is not the time to joke around, Olive. The Campbells will be here soon. You should come back home."
- "I do not think my presence is needed," I replied to her.
- "You are a member of the Williams. Your presence is needed."
- "Olivia, I do not..."
- "Olive." I heard my mom's voice. "Get back home right now. Don't make me repeat myself," she said, before ending the call.
- "I guess you have to go," Lucy said and I nodded.
- "I will visit tomorrow, I promise."
- I hugged Claire and Lucy goodbye before heading back home.
- "You made it home in time," Olivia said when I walked into the house.
- "Like I had a choice," I mumbled and she furrowed her brows.
- "What did you say?"
- "I wasn't talking to you" I mumbled.
- "Get dressed in this.". My mom handed over a dress to me.
- I stared at the dress she gave to me. "Y-you don't expect me to wear this. Do you?"
- "Olive, we do not have time for this. Get dressed quickly."
- "Mom, I cannot wear..."
- "The Campbells are here." my dad announced. "I will welcome them in."
- "Olive, go get dressed quickly and join us in the dining room," my mom said and I sighed. "Olivia, ask Mary to do a last touch on your face and join on too in the dining room."
- "Who is Mary if I may ask?"
- "My makeup artist" Olivia answered and I muttered an Oh.
- "Olive, head to your room now." my mom gestured.
- I returned to my room to get dressed in the dress my mom had given to me.
- Whose dress is this? I wondered, staring at myself in the mirror.
- There was a knock on my door and I groaned.
- "Who is there?"
- "It's Hannah. Everyone is waiting for you." I left my room and followed Hannah downstairs. "They are in the dining room waiting."
- Hannah headed back to the kitchen while I joined the rest at the table. Four other people were seated around the dining table with my parents and Olivia. A man and woman around my parents' age and a younger man and woman. I presume the older man and woman as the father and mother. And the younger man as Olivia's soon-to-be husband. As for the younger woman, I have no reason to think about her.
- "This is Olive, Olivia's twin" my dad introduced and I waved at them.
- My mom nudged me slightly and I stared at her.
- Is there something she wants me to say or do? Or maybe waving at them was a bad idea.
- "Are you the one Olivia is getting married to?" I asked after a while, staring at the young man in front of me.
- "Olive." my mom cooed and I sighed.
- There was silence as I kept playing with the spoon in front of me. I also felt very uncomfortable with the dress I wore.
- "When are we going to eat?" I whispered to my mom.
- "Keep quiet, Olive." my mom whispered to me and I nodded.
- "I will make sure to do that."
- "I see you have a good relationship with your second daughter," the older woman said.
- "No, we don't," I replied quickly and my dad glared at me.
- "I like you. You're so bold." the older woman said and I smiled.
- "Thanks,"
- "Your sister seems to be very calm and you are outspoken. It's surprising to know that you are twins. Is she always this calm?"
- "She is," I answered sincerely.
- Olivia has always been a calm and reserved girl; you can hardly tell what is going on in her mind. She doesn't complain about a thing and she apologizes even when she is being wronged; I hate that.
- The older woman smiled. "That is a good thing to hear. She is the perfect wife material for my son."
- I rolled my eyes. "You mean the perfect tool for your son," I mumbled.
- "What did you say?" The older woman asked and I shrugged.
- "Nothing of any importance."
- Mom glared at me. "Olive, that's enough.". She faced the other woman. "I am sorry, Mrs Campbell for her attitude. Olive is..."
- "You don't have to apologize. I love how outspoken she is," Mrs Campbell said. "Don't you think she is, honey?"
- Mr. Campbell nodded. "I think she is"
- I made to say something but when my mom frowned at me, I kept shut. My dad and Mr. Campbell began to talk about business while we waited for food to be served. I stared at the young man who had not said a word since I got here and the young woman trying to get his attention; I wondered what their relationship was.
- They can't be siblings. Or are they?
- I could tell from how clingy the young woman was towards the young man that something was going on between them. I remembered the story told by friends. They once said he was a playboy.
- I frowned. Why would he have a woman by his side and still want my sister? Isn't that taking advantage of her? I scoffed. I won't allow that.
- I stared at my mom and noticed she was interested in the conversation between the older men. Olivia was also interested in whatever they were saying. I decided to start a conversation with the young man.
- "So are you the one Olivia is getting married to?" I asked and he stared at me but said nothing.
- "You don't know who your sister is getting married to?" The young woman asked.
- "I wasn't talking to you," I answered and she frowned.
- "You are so rude."
- I frowned. She called me rude when she was the one shamelessly throwing herself over a man who is obviously, getting married soon.
- I scoffed. "Don't you think you should question your attitude first before talking about mine? I can see you getting clingy with a man who will get married soon."
- The young woman lowered her brows, pulling them closer together. "What do..."
