Chapter 4 Red Haired

  • Lucian beaded his brows as he watched the woman brush past him, ignoring the hand he had extended for a hand shake.
  • This woman had not gotten the job yet but she was being rude to him already.
  • It's not like she was going to get rejected though. The company needed her at the moment.
  • “I'll have my seat, Mr. Go,” she said, the smile not leaving her face, which was irritating him already.
  • Lucian adjusted his tie, walked towards the single chair across her, and then settled on it. He didn't tear his eyes off the woman who wouldn't do the same either.
  • Her brown eyes pinned his blue eyes as if it was giving a threat.
  • “I look forward to your service with L.G. I just wanted to meet the new legal Advisor in person. That's why I asked to meet you. I will get the contract,” Lucian finally spoke up.
  • He stood up, walked to his table, grabbed the intercom, pressed some numbers, and waited for the receiver.
  • “Bring the contract, she's here.”
  • After a few minutes of sitting in silence, the door opened, and Hames entered, the CEO of L.G, also Lucian’s best friend.
  • “Hey, bro,” Hames entered, and took a glance at the woman.
  • “Hi, I am Hames Kades,” he said as a smile spread across his face.
  • He walked closer to Lucian and then dropped the brown envelop that contained the contract on the table in front of him.
  • “Vasilissa Hathaway.”
  • “Yeah, I know. I recommended you,” he flashed her a smile.
  • “Oh, thank you.” she chuckled.
  • Lucian raised a brow with a soft scoff as he watched her smile.
  • Did she just glint a genuine smile at Hames while she gave him a ‘oh, I don't care’ look?
  • “Yeah. I was impressed with your work, so, I couldn't resist it,” he smiled again and then settled on the arm rest of the chair Lucian was.
  • “Thanks for the compliment,” Vasilissa smiled again.
  • Slightly annoyed, Lucian cleared his throat, picked the envelop and dropped it on the table in front of the woman.
  • “Here is it.”
  • He watched the woman picked up the envelope, bring out the paper and then returned it without checking what it entails.
  • “I'll go through this and being it back. I can do that, right?” Vasilissa said, and stood up, not waiting for an answer.
  • “Sure, I'd be waiting for your response,” he answered.
  • “It's nice meeting you, Miss Hathaway,” Hames stretched his hand forward and without hesitation, Vasilissa shook hands with him.
  • “Same here.”
  • “I will see you out,” Hames said and Lucian only watched in irritation as he led the blonde woman out.
  • “I don't like that woman one bit,” Lucian voiced out as soon as Hames returned to his office.
  • “Why? I think she's cool,” Hames laughed at his friends grumpiness.
  • “She’s cool? She's definitely putting on a facade. She was pulling this ‘i don't care who you are’ vibe on me and was showing this high school sweet girl to you. What is that supposed to mean?” Lucian frowned and Hames laughed which irritated him more.
  • This guy was his best friend but he hated how they never agreed on the same thing.
  • “You think Vasilissa is putting on a facade? Bro, she's one of the best out there and you only think she's putting on a facade because she don't feel intimidated by you,” Hames answered.
  • “What? You think I am intimidating? I extended my hand for a handshake and she brushed me aside but when you entered, she was like ‘oh, hi!’ revealing her weird smile. She was definitely playing favoritism of course!” Lucian hissed.
  • “God, I can’t believe you’re whining over this. That woman clearly did not care over what you might think about but you’re here brooding over how she acted,” Hames shook his head.
  • Lucian scoffed and tilted his head,”How she reacted had no single effect on me. I wonder how she made it to the top with that nasty behavior of hers.”
  • Hames widened his eyes and shook his head, “I can’t believe this is coming from the nastiest chairman in whole of LA.”
  • “You know why I don’t like you?” Lucian creased his brows.
  • “No, you like me.”
  • “You don’t support me. We don’t agree on the same thing.”
  • “That is because your way of thinking is weird.” Hames shrugged his shoulders off.
  • “Whatever.” Lucian hissed.
  • When Hames didn’t say anything, Lucian breathed out nervously and said, “I am going to see him today.”
  • “Grandpa?” Hames widened his eyes.
  • “Yes.”
  • He answered and noticed the change in Hames' facial expression turned serious.
  • “Are you going to be okay?” Hames asked.
  • “Yes. I haven’t visited in a while only because he told me not to. I feel like I should visit again.”
  • “I get that your grandfather liked Cassandra, but is this not too much?”
  • Lucian sighed and then massaged his temple, “I know, right?”

  • Meanwhile…
  • Vasilissa stepped out of the elevator, walked away from it when someone bumped into her.
  • Okay, she had bumped into the person.
  • “Oh, I…” she muttered as she bent to pick up the woman’s bag that had fallen from her hand.
  • “I am so…” her voice trailed off as she locked eyes with the woman with the most menacing look she had ever seen.
  • Rosaline.
  • Her ex-husband’s mistress, now fiancé, still not married after three years of engagement.
  • Of course, she knew everything these people wanted the public to know about their everyday life.
  • For the past five years, the revenge, the hatred she had for them was one of the thing that kept her going.
  • Now staring at the woman who was almost the cause of her misfortunes many years back, she clenched her fist into a ball and gritted her teeth.
  • “Sorry…” she finally added and gave her the bag.
  • “Sorry? You just ruined my bag!” She widened her eyes, giving a high pitched voice, which was quite displeasing to the ears.
  • “I just said sorry, you would have said the same if it was you who bumped into me and knocked off my bag,” Vasilissa said, not smiling. She wasn’t frowning either.
  • “Well, I didn’t. And it’s not as if your knock off bag worth billions that I can’t afford,” Rosaline hissed.
  • “Neither do yours worth billions that I can’t afford,” an annoying smile crept on her face slowly.
  • “It’s a limited edition!” Rosaline screamed, which made people turn in their direction.
  • “Mine too,” maintaining the smile, Vasilissa grinned.
  • She took a step back, opened her handbag and removed a card.
  • “I’ll pay for whatever damages. That’s my business card. You can call whenever, I am nice,” she patted her shoulder and then walked past her, feeling the dagger stares the woman was throwing at her.
  • Rosaline folded her fist tightly as she watched the woman walked away.
  • That woman just annoyed her, but she was the least of her worries at the moment.
  • Lucian was.
  • The man she had been engaged to for three years and was still not married to him!
  • ===
  • The door of his office pushed open, and Rosaline barged in, his secretary running behind her.
  • “I told her that…”
  • “Leave,” he interrupted her and looked at his fiance who had an angry look on her face.
  • “I will leave you two to it,” Hames stood up and then exited the office, not hiding the fact that he did not like the woman.
  • Lucian stood up from couch, trailed to his seat and then settled on it, “Why are you here, Rose? You didn't tell me you were coming.”
  • “You know exactly why I am here, Lucian,” she dropped her bag and then walked toward him.
  • “I don't, and I'd appreciate if you would just tell me,” he answered as he watched her settled on the table before him, and then placed her legs on the chair in between his thigh.
  • “You were supposed to come to me yesternight,” she drawled.
  • “Rose, I was tired. I worked overtime and needed to rest. Surely, coming over to your place was not what I needed,” he answered.
  • “Why was it not what you wanted? Lucian, it’s been three years I’ve been wearing this ring on my finger. It’s high time we got married. It’s been five years you’ve ended things with your ex-wife!” She snapped.
  • “You’re the one who is rushing, Rose,” he said.
  • “Rushing? Lucian, it’s almost six years and I’m rushing?” She frowned.
  • The way he always remained calm in every situation always annoyed her deeply.
  • Lucian exhaled, relaxed his head on the head rest, and closed his eyes.
  • This was the woman he had loved dearly and he couldn’t help but admit that things were changing. Rose was being too clingy, and annoying and he was starting to hate it.
  • Those little things he did not used to care about was now choking him.
  • He had no one to tell this to, not even Hames.
  • After all, the guy had warned him and it was him who didn’t listen.
  • “Do you not like me anymore?”
  • He flinched when he felt her leg rested on his member, and shot his eyes open.
  • “What are you doing?”
  • “What does it seems like I’m doing?” She smiled rather seductively.
  • Rosaline smile faded slowly, “This is my office, and you know well that I don’t permit things like THIS here,” she frowned when he extended the ‘this’.
  • “Luci…”
  • The guy wasn't having any of it, he brushed her leg aside and then stood from the chair.
  • “I have somewhere to be right now. You do come at a wrong time, if I may say,” Lucian said, not sparing her a glance as he grabbed his jacket.
  • “When is the right time, Lucian?!” Rosaline hollered unconsciously.
  • “Not now.”
  • Seeing that Lucian was prepared to step out, she got down from the table, wore her heels, grabbed her bag and then hurried after her fiancé.
  • If there’s anything she’s not going to let people find out. It’s her falling relationship with Lucian.
  • ==
  • Go’s mansion.
  • Lucian forced a smile as he stared at the smiling face of his mother. He stopped in front of her and hugged her.
  • “My son,” Brenda smiled as she wrapped her arms around her son’s huge body.
  • “I thought you didn’t want to see me also. You didn’t even call me. You didn’t return my calls either,” she threw him an accusing glare after they broke the hug.
  • “I’m sorry, I’ve been swamped with work. There were many things I needed to do,” he admitted with an apology.
  • “Cut yourself some slack, okay? You’ve been overworking yourself. Of course, I’m proud of you. The press don’t fail to air your achievement and everything you acquire everyday, but you should take it easy… and get married one of these days.” She said the last one in almost a whisper, but Lucian heard it.
  • “Please mum,” he rolled his eyes.
  • “What? Shouldn't you marry Rosaline already? You're keeping that innocent woman waiting.”
  • “Did Rose come and meet you?”
  • Of course he had to ask, his mother was very predictable.
  • One could easily guess that he she was passing across Rosaline's message.
  • “Why? Can't I have lunch with my daughter in-law?” Brenda hissed and look away.
  • “I'm not having that. I'm here for grandpa, is he in his room?” he asked and his mother nodded her head.
  • *
  • “Get out.”
  • The harsh, husky voice of his grandfather greeted him.
  • “Come on, granny, are you not being too harsh on me? It's four years already,” he groaned.
  • Four years ago when his grandfather woke up from his coma of over a year and half, he asked for Cassandra first and was very displeased that his grandson had divorced the woman.
  • “I told you not to come here unless you return with Cassandra!” he hollered.
  • “How could you keep asking for that woman? She nearly tarnished our family’s image. She cheated on me.”
  • “Cassandra did not cheat on you. She was the purest woman ever!” he retorted back angrily.
  • “Grandpa, after the evidence I proved to you?” Lucian beaded his brows.
  • “I told you to bring real evidence. Not some piece of fabricated files!”
  • “Those are real. You are not believing because of your deep love for that woman.”
  • “Fool. Cassandra is red haired, and that woman in the supposed evidence? She had wine hair!” He bursted angrily and Lucian creased his brows.
  • “What are you saying?”
  • “Your wife was red-haired and that woman in the pictures you showed me is not. She had a wine hair,” he repeated, this time firmly and bolder.
  • “Shit.”
  • Lucian thought.
  • If that person was not Cassandra, who was she?
