Chapter 1 Divorce

  • “I want a divorce, Cassandra, you are a disgraceful woman!” Lucian, her husband’s cruel words pierced her heart as tears filled her eyes.
  • Cassandra was lying on the bed, in her room when the door burst open and Lucian barged in, with a brown envelope in his hand.
  • “W…what are you saying?” she creased her brows.
  • This wasn't the first time her husband had said those words to her, but today, it seemed different, plus he was holding a brown envelope which she prayed fervently to not be the divorce document.
  • “There were many times I've heard rumors of your filthy act and I've always chosen to turn deaf ears. I thought it wasn't true but I was wrong to have turned deaf ears!” he towered over her and yelled.
  • “I've never done anything to deserve those names, Lucian,” her words broke.
  • “Cassandra, you had the audacity to meet with other men behind my back, and as if that wasn't enough you gave yourself to them like the whore you are!”
  • “I wouldn't accept my morals being dragged to mud, Lucian. You of all people shouldn't point fingers at others. I kept mute because of the condition attached to our marriage and only watched as you flaunted your mistress in front of everyone. You saw nothing wrong in that but…”
  • “Are you trying to cover your sin by dragging Rosaline into this? It still wouldn't change the fact that you had another man sleep with you!” he hollered.
  • “You shouldn't accuse me of such an immoral act, Lucian. I have…”
  • “You call this accusation?” he frowned as he shoved his cell phone at her face.
  • Cassandra furrowed her brow, collected the phone from him, and stared at the picture.
  • This was her in the picture. This was her under the covers in a hotel room. This was another picture of her with a man under the covers.
  • “W…what is this?” she staggered as Lucian snatched the phone from her.
  • “That is not me, I swear!” She cried.
  • “Then who is it? Are you going to blame anyone for this?”
  • “That was photoshopped! It wasn’t me, trust me, please!”
  • “And what? I was flaunting my mistress? You knew better that I loved Rosaline before you pulled some strings to make my grandfather make me marry you. Even after the shit your father had done, my grandfather looked over it and forced me into this marriage with you!”
  • “But now what? The only person that could take your side is there on a sick bed, and before you know it, I will take over the L.G group of companies!”
  • Cassandra shook her head vigorously, tears pouring down her face. “I swear, I never cheated on you. I know you did not like me and I did not question that, but please, trust me. I am not the one in the picture.”
  • “Save those lies to yourself. I give you until the end of the day to sign that document,” with that, he threw the papers at her.
  • Cassandra kneeled down hurriedly and wrapped her arms around his legs as the man prepared to leave the room. She begged, crying profusely, “I will do anything you ask of me, but please, you can't divorce me. I… I… Please don't.“
  • “You are so shameless, and unbelievable,” he forced his legs away from her and then hissed.
  • “Wait, you don't think things are going to change between us because of what happened that night, do you?” he stopped walking and said.
  • Cassandra parted her lips, yet no words came out. Lucian remembered what happened that night?
  • She felt utterly defeated that she thought she would die.
  • Before she knew it, the double doors of her room gave a loud bang which made her flinch.
  • After she was sure that he had left, she removed the pregnancy kit from her pocket, stared at the two red lines and sighed.
  • There was no way she was going to tell the man that she was carrying his baby already.
  • He would probably take her to the hospital and toss her and baby, or better still, make her give birth and collect her baby from her.
  • Would her husband have a change of heart if he knew that she was carrying his baby already?
  • But then again, she had just been accused of cheating on him, there was no way he was going to believe that the baby truly belonged to him.
  • A couple of months back, Lucian had gotten himself drunk and had tried to force his way with her. Willingly, she had allowed her drunken husband to have sex with her with the hope that things were going to change between them.
  • However, the next morning came, and her husband acted as if nothing had happened between them.
  • Of course, there was no way her husband would have forgotten what happened between them.
  • Their marriage was supposed to last a year, but because Lucian’s grandfather had a special interest in her and loved her very much, they couldn't proceed with the divorce since her husband, Lucian, cherished his grandfather a lot, and he couldn't divorce her. But now that the grandfather had met with an accident and was in a coma, there was no way the divorce wouldn't proceed.
  • After a while, Cassandra picked up the divorce paper, stood up, and sat on the edge of the bed. Then, she began to read the terms of the contract. If she signed the divorce papers, she would receive fifteen million dollars as alimony.
  • She set the papers aside and touched her stomach. That should be more than enough to cater for her unborn baby’s needs.
  • Cassandra laughed as she glanced at the wedding picture of her and Lucian that she had hung on the wall. It was laughter that was mixed with pain, misery, and guilt.
  • She was pathetic. Very pathetic.
  • If she had rejected Lucian’s grandfather’s offer to marry his grandson in return for not punishing her for her father’s crime. Maybe she wouldn’t be caught up miserably in this hell that she calls marriage.
  • Maybe she might have been forgiven for her father’s crime.
  • Maybe, or maybe not.
  • The fact that she was going to leave the household didn’t hurt like knowing fully well that her baby might suffer without his father by his side.
  • Cassandra yawned lazily and leaned back till her back touched the soft mattress.
  • Only one person would be the most happy about this news and that was her mother in law.
  • After all, the woman also wanted her son’s mistress for him.
  • Cassie did not know how long she had reflected on her miserable life, “I will leave. It is only the right thing to do,” she had said before she finally drifted to sleep.
