• Marcus's low growl was reluctant, but softer as he saw the hunters assemble around their cave, two of them outside holding what appeared to be a machine gun, then one of them holding something silver. They were simply too much for him to handle on his own and they appeared to be harmed, but he wasn't going to do it by himself, was he? He had Kane, his best friend, and his father on his side, but when he saw them pulling his father, mother, and pregnant sister out of their cave, he lost all hope.
• His father appeared to be too feeble to even lift a finger, and it occurred to him that they had most likely injected him with wolfsbane to make him weaker.
