Chapter 8

• My footsteps echoed softly on the tiled floor as I entered Alpha Kyle's house. I guess I should start thinking of it as my home since this is where I'll be staying. At least, until he gets tired of me.
• I walked into the living room with my spirits down. As usual, my school bag was heavy with text books and so was my head. My mind was filled with thoughts swirling all around in my head.
• I decided to go to the kitchen to get a drink. Maybe that would calm my mind down a little.
• In the kitchen, I met an unfamiliar woman standing there. I stared at her in admiration. She looked stunning.
• She was a beautiful woman with a striking figure. She had cascading long brown hair. I don't know who she is but I could feel her confident aura from a mile away. Her presence commanded attention.
• She was on her phone but she looked up at me as soon as I walked in. Her brown eyes locked onto mine with curiosity. A frown came across her pretty face.
• ''You're Rose?'' she asked me with an attitude.
• Why does she seem to have a problem with me? I haven't met her before.
• ''Yes" I answered "Is there any problem?''
• She walked a bit closer to me. She eyed me up and down as if assessing me. I felt small and intimidated under her gaze.
• "I thought as much" she said with a smirk.
• "And you are?"
• The woman's lips curled into a sinister smile. It was a smile that showed she knew something I didn't. I wonder what that could be.
• "My name is Lucy" she said "I'm Alpha Kyle's mistress"
• The word 'mistress' hung in the air, heavy with different meanings.
• My heart was mixed with hurt and jealousy. I thought that with time, maybe Alpha Kyle will grow to like me. I thought I could try my best.
• I never imagined that he would have a mistress who lived in the same house with him, especially a woman as attractive as Lucy. No wonder he doesn't want me.
• Why would he want someone as pathetic as me when he already had a pretty lady like this by his side?
• Lucy's presence shattered my final illusion of love. Deep in my heart, I harbored a glimmer of hope. That won't be possible now.
• She looks determined. I doubt she'll be willing to let him go.
• "I didn't know he had a...mistress" I muttered, looking down.
• I struggled to find the right words. I didn't know what to say.
• Lucy's eyes sparkled with cruelty as she leaned in closer to me.
• "Well, now you do" she said "Stay away from Alpha Kyle''
• ''Um...''
• ''I get the part that you're mates but he's mine. He always has been and he always will be. You're young and inexperienced. You wouldn't understand our connection even if you tried"
• I looked down at the floor. How do I respond to that?
• "He brought me here" I whispered "I can't just stay away from him"
• "You don't have a choice. Trust me, you don't want to have a problem with me. I don't care how you do it. Run away or kill yourself if you have to''
• Her words sliced through my heart like a knife. I felt my cheeks flush with humiliation. I can't believe I'm being warned to stay away from my own mate.
• The jealousy burned deep within me. I've never experienced these type of emotions before.
• ''Do I make myself clear?'' she asked.
• I didn't know what to say. I just want to leave here. I feel embarrassed enough.
• Not saying anything, I turned around and walked out of the kitchen.
• All of a sudden, I felt her pull back my hair.
• I yelled in pain "Ow!"
• It felt as if she tried to rip off the strands of hair from my scalp. It hurt so bad.
• ''You think you're tough, don't you?" she growled "When I ask a question, I want an answer, you stupid bitch''
• Before I could react or respond, a male figure walked into the kitchen.
• His presence was like a breath of fresh air. I could fee power radiating from him.
• ''What's going on here?'' he asked.
• His voice held authority.
• She left my hair immediately. I fell to the ground as a result.
• I held my throbbing head in pain.
• ''Oh nothing'' she said, batting her fake eyelashes.
• Lucy might seem composed but I could tell that her stance was momentarily shaken by the man's presence.
• His eyes narrowed as he glared at her.
• "We were just having a little chat" Lucy said.
• The man looked at me then back at her.
• "A little chat?" he asked "That resulted her falling to the floor?"
• I looked at the man. He stood tall and muscular, just like Alpha Kyle. He had an aura of power and authority. It didn't take me time for me to realize he was probably the Beta of the pack.
• ''Leave now!'' he growled at Lucy.
• Without hesitation, she scurried out of the kitchen.
• He looked at me with a soft expression on his face. He seemed sympathetic towards me.
• He gave me his hand which I took. Gently, he pulled me up.
• ''Thank you'' I whispered.
• "No problem" he said with a small smile "My name is Taylor"
• I smiled back at him "I'm Rose"
• "I know. Follow me. Alpha Kyle wishes to see you''
• I followed behind him as he led me upstairs. We walked down the corridor until we got to a door.
• Taylor knocked.
• ''Come in'' I heard Alpha Kyle's voice say.
• ''You can go in" Taylor told me.
• ''Alone?'' I asked him.
• He looked at me commiseratively. I'm sure he can see the fear in my eyes.
• ''Yes'' he said "You'll be fine"
• I took a deep breath before opening the door and entering. I gently shut the door behind me.
• Alpha Kyle was seated on his desk. He looked up when he saw it was me.
• ''Good day Alpha. You wanted to see me''
• ''Yes" he returned his gaze back to his work "Have a seat''
• I walked over to the chair across from him and sat down. I fiddled with my fingers, feeling anxious. I wonder what he wants to talk to me about.
• He got up and stood in front of me. He looked at me with folded arms.
• I was even more terrified than before.
• What could I have done?
• ''You went to school today" he said "Am I correct?''
• ''Yes Alpha'' I whimpered.
• ''Now, explain to me why your assignment wasn't done"
• My gaze fell to the floor. How on earth did he know about that?
• "I believe I'm not talking to a log of wood" he growled "Answer me''
• A sense of guilt washed over me. I should have been more diligent. The things I went through made it difficult to focus on anything else.
• ''I have no excuse" I whispered "I'm sorry, Alpha''
• ''You are my mate. That means you represent me and this pack. When you don't meet your responsibilities, it reflects badly on me. I do not want a lousy Luna"
• Tears welled up in my eyes.
• I didn't mean to bring shame to him or anyone.
• "I'm sorry" I whispered.
• His anger seemed to intensify by my tears "You have a duty, Rose. As my mate, you must excel. I won't take anything less than the best. Do you understand?"
• I nodded slowly "Yes Alpha"
• ''Good. Now, get out of my sight''
• I got up and left his office.
