  • Overwhelmed by what I had uncovered, the library was the last place I could bear to be. Instead, I found myself behind the wheel, driving straight to Zuriel's office building, my heart hammering in my chest.
  • Reaching the reception desk, I ignore the receptionist's confused look and go straight to my husband's office. I wipe tears from my face and force a smile at his secretary. The middle-aged woman, clearly taken aback, stammers that Zuriel is in a meeting.
  • "Please, call him. I need to see him," I implore the secretary. She hesitates, her gaze fixed on the office phone. I'm not sure why I'm so insistent, but the tension in the air is palpable. Without waiting for her response, I stride past her and into Zuriel's office, the woman trailing behind me.
