Chapter 3
- Meeting him
- Reina
- It has been two weeks since the meeting about our new project. My team and I have had sleepless nights to make sure nothing goes wrong on this project and it gets approved. Today is the day we meet with the investors and, being the project manager, I must be there. This project has a lot of importance to the company. The CEO, investors and all heads of departments will also be at the meeting today. I have never met the CEO before, he always comes direct to his office via his private elevator. There are so few who have seen him in person, we only hear about him and no photos of him either. I think he is an old man who doesn’t want attention from the media, he just wants to work hard for his family.
- I walk in with my head held high, ready for today's results. I want them to be positive because we have all worked our a***s off on this, so no mistakes. With a smile on my face, I greet my fellow members who are seated as I take my seat waiting for the CEO and the investors.
- After around ten minutes, the investors come in, followed by whom I think is the CEO, because he has his assistants standing on both sides and security at the back. We all stand as a way of respect. He stands still in the middle of the room looking everywhere. It's like he is looking for someone and he locks his eyes with mine. I hear a voice like a growl; maybe it’s my imagination, but the moment I lock eyes with the man in the middle, I hear only one word leaving his lips.
- "Mate"
- Everyone gasps, making me wonder what the meaning of "mate" is.
- Mate, as in friends?
- Does this stranger want us to be friends?
- I hope it doesn’t mean something else in their language.
- My handsome boss unexpectedly comes closer to me, holding me tight to himself and snuggling in the crook of my neck, inhaling me deeply, but I think he just loves the smell of my hair spray; who doesn’t? I love it too.
- I was shocked by this gesture, and I just stood there like I was struck by lightning. The moment our skin touches, I feel these electric tingles all over my body.
- I know it is crazy, but the moment he hugged me, I felt so comfortable I didn’t want it to end. I felt the warmth coming from him so comforting; it was like I needed it.
- Hmmm, maybe I am crazy.
- "Ahem", OH! Thanks, someone cleared their throat, making me come out of my trance.
- He also stopped hugging me and told me to meet him later and that we needed to talk.
- That was not awkward at all, right?
- Everyone got to their seats as if nothing happened, but I could still see most people had this excitement on their faces, including my very best friend, Raven. I felt like I was going to be sacrificed later. Don't blame my imagination, that's what happens after watching many weird movies.
- The meeting began with my presentation of the project. I answered all the questions asked in detail, trying my best not to be distracted and I made sure to avoid looking at the CEO. After my part was done, I didn't concentrate at all. Thanks be to God my secretary was writing everything down, because my brain and body were all on that piece of man seated in the middle like a king, and wow! God took time to create him. continuation
- I didn't know how much time went by until I saw the CEO stand. He was talking about something. He is the epitome of perfection. He looks like he came direct from the magazine. With one look, everyone will swoon at the sight of him, be it men or women. His tanned skin tone and tousled dark hair that was thick and lustrous made his big blue eyes seem to rival the sky in their color and look so mesmerizing to look into, he has a tattoo on his neck that goes down past his shirt that I so wish I could see the rest. Goddess, he's so tall compared to my 5'6 frame. I followed up again with his perfect ripe lips which looked delicious and inviting as he was talking about God knows what, but when we locked eyes he had a smirk on them, damn. I looked down at my papers, having been found watching him out. What a shame! And Papp! My mind was back at the meeting but all I heard was the boss's conclusion with a request for me to meet him later. Whatever was wrong with me I couldn't understand, but one thing I knew for sure was that meeting that Greek god was trouble, so I did what I do best, run.
- The moment the CEO and the investors walked out with everyone else ready to move, I walked so fast, not listening even to Raven, who was busy calling me, with my papers in hand and my bag since I wasn't in the office this morning, I left the building and went direct to my car. My heart was racing so fast that I had to take deep breaths to calm myself down before starting the engine to God knows where. When I finally decided to stop, I found myself already in another city. How I drove from Dublin to Galway within two hours still scares me. The last time I drove that distance it took me three good hours. Well, I guess fear can make me drive faster.
- I checked myself into a nearby hotel because I needed a rest before thinking about what the f**k I just did.
- After a cold shower, I sat on the bed still wrapped in a towel, and decided to check my phone, which had been ringing none stop. I had dozens of missed calls and messages from Raven and a message from my secretary informing me she had applied for sick leave for me. I think everyone would believe that with how pale I looked, and running out like a crazy person without answering anyone.
- Damon's Pov
- I am at the company today dealing with some urgent papers that needed my attention before attending the meeting with other alphas about the project we are to start. I want to develop a small city like the one we have in other regions for shifters in Ireland, to avoid the cases of attacks on humans that have been developing lately.
- After all the alphas had arrived, my second and third in command went in and we went straight to the meeting. To humans, I'm just a CEO and my alphas are the investors, not bad since we are all invested in this project.
- My wolf has been purring in my head since morning, but I locked our connection to concentrate at work. Now he is back in full force.
- "Can you stop it, Max, you're giving me a headache" I told him, annoyed. Sometimes he behaves like a**s
- "I heard that," he said.
- "Good to know, can you stop giving me a headache" I retorted.
- We were walking down to the hall when my wolf began stirring and howling in my head. I was getting annoyed with his behavior today. He never does that.
- "You damn mutt, can you stop! I................."
- "Mate," my Wolf Max says with excitement in my head, cutting me short.
- "Where?" was all I could ask after coming out of my shock. I could have sensed her, right?
- "Focus human" my wolf growls.
- I growled back a bit loudly because everyone turned to look at me, but I gave them a sign to continue walking.
- I focus and there is this intoxicating scent, though not strong, I am sure my mate is in the building. I follow where it is strong and it is coming from the meeting room. I try to stay calm not to scare anyone, since there are about four humans in this meeting. The other alphas get in as I follow with my beta and gamma.
- I could smell her even before I saw her face. I just looked around as everyone seated stood up only to lock eyes with enticing green eyes. Instantly my wolf was howling, mine. My heart stopped there for a minute, she was breathtaking and before I could decipher what was happening, Max took control.
- "Mate" As those words left my mouth, I had already stormed towards the most beautiful creature I have ever laid my eyes on, pulled her to me, hugged her and placed my head closer to her neck, and took in her scent. Wow! Vanilla and strawberries are my favorites.
- She gasped the moment our skins came into contact and electricity shot up where our skins touched. I could feel her go still but she didn't push me away, then she calmed down.
- I can hear my beta and gamma talk to me on the mind link, but not now. I want to feel more of my mate.
- Derek clears his throat after a failed mind link which instantly snaps my mate back into reality first and me after some seconds.
- I stepped back, smiling at her.
- "Talk later mate," I said as I walked to my seat with the others.
- " Congratulations my king" is all I hear in the mind link from the members present.
- "Thank you, let's get back to work"
- The meeting began with introductions and my mate, the project manager, took the floor to describe all the details of the project.
- She was so perfect, even in her working suit I could see her beautiful figure. She wasn't thin but she wasn't fat either. She looked like a model. She was just right for me. Her skin was lightly tanned and smooth. She's long-legged, with long brown hair tied in a ponytail that reached her back. Her eyes are almost almond-shaped, light hazel with multiple colors mixed to make the perfect blend for a perfect woman. She has simple makeup applied with purple lipstick. Her scent is intoxicating, better than any food or cake I have ever tested. She is pure. I can tell from her scent.
- My wolf is begging me to come out, he is practically demanding it, he just wants to hold our mate in our arms and never let her go. He is howling so loudly that it is difficult for me to concentrate.
- "Max stop, we have to plan how to approach her or we will scare her away. She is human, did you forget that?"
- He whimpers, but I know he is with me in this. We needed to take it slow with her even though we almost lost control at the beginning.
- After a small talk with my wolf, we concentrated on the project details because I needed it to go through. My mate answered all the questions accurately and made me happy that we had a perfect person for this job.
- After the presentation and a lot of discussions, I stood up with my final decision about the project, which was also approved by everyone. All the alphas agreed to play their part in getting workers from their packs and the construction was to begin in a week.
- I concluded the meeting by walking out with my men, not forgetting to remind my very absent-minded mate of our meeting. I think our mate bond had started affecting her, which was weird because of the cases I have heard of human mates never feeling the mate bond until they are marked.
- My wolf was dancing around like a puppy dog, happy to have found our mate.
- I got to my office with my beta and gamma on my back, bickering like little b****s.
- "Sometimes I wonder why the Moon Goddess gave me friends like you. You talk more than cheerleaders, you know that?"
- "C'mon man, we know you will be having a happy dance when you're alone. Smile, for now, you, found your mate", Liam said, closing the door behind him.
- "Yeah, now no more pressure from the old gramps, the Luna is here" Derek added, getting us each a glass of whiskey as we sat at the round table in my office.
- "I need your help guys, my mate is human and I don't want to bomber her about our kind and her being my mate and all her responsibilities. I need a plan for letting her in slowly not to scare her. " Damn! That would be hard. If it was a she-wolf, we could just have marked each other there and started our lives together. My friends suggest getting help from their mates and my sister and they will get back to me. With that, they leave me in my office as I wait for my mate.
- I have been in my office alone for what feels like hours now, but it is less than five minutes.
- I heard a knock at the door and asked for the person to come in. I raised my face to watch my beautiful mate walk in but my face fell immediately when I saw Jennifer catwalk in like she owned the place. she wore a strapless, red dress(if you could call it that) cut so low one could see her breasts and not in a classy way, it was too short that if she so much breathed wrong the world would have a perfect view of her ass. her makeup looked like a bottle of gold glitter had exploded on her face. Together, with the six-inch high heels she wore, she looked like a commercial sex worker.
- I think my new secretary did not get the warning to never allow this woman to come into my office. I will have to fire her too.
- I had to fire the last one. She was smart and knew her job well until I found her butt naked on my office table and that's when I fired her. I hate women throwing themselves at me just for power. I know how it feels being without a mate and I can't do that to other wolves or humans for that matter by taking away any of their soulmates, never ever!
- "Who let you in?" I asked, my wolf growling at her.
- "Is that how you address your future wife?" she asked, so happy to think she would ever be my chosen mate.
- "I think, Jenniffer, that thick head of yours needs to get it in that I will never take you as my chosen mate."
- "But Damon, I love you and even the elders chose me for you. Cann't you see that we are meant to be together? And by the way, I came to pick you up. We need to go check out our engagement outfits. We are getting engaged soon" She said, bending her body on my table for me to have a nice view of her, but she thought it wrong if she came to seduce me.
- "Growl"
- "Get out this instant!" I shouted at her.
- "Damon listen....."
- "IT'S ALPHA KING TO YOU B***H" Max growls, coming forward
- " NOW GIVE ME A DAMN REASON WHY I CAN'T BREAK YOUR NECK NOW". With one hand, I lifted Jennifer, pushing her to the wall.
- She's trying to breathe but I don't care. I just want her gone for good.
- My door opens and Derek, Liam, and my sister run toward me begging me to stop. The moment my wolf calms and drifts back, I let Jennifer fall, looking scared like a little rabbit as she tries to catch her breath, then she runs out crying.
- No one said anything for a while. We all sat down quietly until I decided to talk.
- "I know you both want to know what happened, but I couldn't calm Max down. He lost it the moment she said we are getting engaged soon", I explained.
- "We understand you bro, but you should have killed her outside, not in the company. How can we move a dead body from the building without being noticed?" My sister says and we all break down laughing at what just happened.
