• "Soul Devourer!" The name struck Sebastian like a bolt of lightning, leaving him frozen in place. A dazed expression plastered his face as passersby cast curious glances his way.
• "Don't be surprised," Hayley's cold voice broke through his reverie. "They classify my techniques as such for precisely this reason. The Soul Devourer has three crucial rules. First, you must never devour someone whose power exceeds your own by too much. Second, you can never consume a good person; doing so will only lead to feelings of guilt that manifest as an inner demon, ultimately turning you into a monster. Third, you must never let anyone know you possess such techniques, or you will be hunted down by the righteous."
• Sebastian listened intently. The severity of Hayley's words pressed on him like a weight. That technique was indeed powerful; it allowed one to steal the cultivation power of others. However, he was acutely aware of the severe repercussions that frequent use could impose on his own psyche.
