Chapter 4
- USHER'S POV
- Nothing tastes good anymore, not with the a million thoughts running through my mind.
- I can't think anything else except the other girl the prophetess said she had a vision of, the girl who looks exactly like me.
- What if she is the one mated to Hayden and I am just the girl who looks like her?
- Honesty, I can't tell if I am mated to Hayden or not. I love the man like I love my own heart. I am attracted to everything that is his.
- But that's how things used to be even before I phased. I am not sure we have a mate bond or it's just me who is madly in love with the hottest man alive.
- I have already made plans of the things I would do during our long marriage, the children we will have and what I will look like as a queen.
- I just can't stomach watching Hayden marry anyone else.
- "Usher?!"
- I hadn't realized that I was squeezing the glass of milk in my hand until mother exclaims when it breaks and spills the contents on the well laid table.
- "What is wrong with you today?" She asks stepping away from the table.
- I shrug my shoulders. "Sorry!"
- Mother signals our housemaid to come clean the mess. Just like me, she no longer does the dirty works. Hayden's parents pays for all our necessities. They believe I am his mate even though he won't accept it.
- "Talk to me. You seem distressed, did our Prince say something rude to you today?" Mother asks sitting back in her chair after the maid, Grace, cleans the mess.
- "He insists that I am not his mate. I wanted to escort him to Silver Moon pack but he chose to go with his friend instead." I answer.
- "Why is he such a jerk when it comes to his relationship? He is so responsible when handling everything else!" Mother grumbles angrily.
- "Maybe he is just nervous about a millennia long marriage. You should give each other time, he is your mate and will always come back to you." She says, taking deep breathes to calm herself down.
- "Not if there is someone else who looks like me." I say, my fists clenching around the edges of the table as I think of the possibility.
- "What do you mean?"
- I feel my throat constricting as I try to divulge what the prophetess said to me.
- "I went to the prophetess to demand for answers. She said that Hayden is my mate, unless there is somebody else who looks exactly like me. She also said that she had a vision of another girl that looks like me but she can't tell who it was!" I blurt out. "No one can look like me, right?"
- I have always been told that I look more beautiful that any girl in any known kingdom, how could there be anyone just as beautiful?
- I don't know why mother looks like she is about to get a heart attack. "That can't be!" She shrieks, shaking her head. She is action weard.
- "Noooo!!!" She screams and slaps the table hard with her fist. It's as if she has gone mad.
- "Mother?! Calm down, you're scaring me!" I snap.
- She stands and starts taking in deep breathes again. Finally, she sits back down but doesn't say anything.
- "Why did you react like that? Is there something you're not telling me?" I ask.
- "It's best if you don't know, it's not somethinh good!" She says and goes back to being silent.
- "If it concerns me, I want to know!" I insist.
- "Honey, trust me when I tell you it's not good!" She asserts.
- "I don't care if it's good or not, just tell me."
- She rises from her seat and strolls to the window. I see tears drop from her eyes as she stares at the darkness outside.
- I am about to go to her when she speaks again. "I meant to keep it a secret forever, because I wanted to protect you from the pain I feel everyday. But it's now clear that the truth will come to haunt us no matter how I want to escape it." She says in an emotional voice.
- "What are you talking about?"
- She now turns to look at me in the face."Usher, you have a twin sister!"
- "Excuse me?!" I exclaim, not sure I heard her well.
- "You wanted to know the truth, right? You had a twin sister, I gave her out to some poor woman immediately she was born!" She blurts out.
- My breathing almost ceases. Please let this be a bad dream!
