Chapter 5 Do You Want To Die?
- Kenzo Lane.
- Wade had heard that Kenzo had been keeping a low profile back when he was the deputy director of the Security Bureau in Freedom City. However, he had changed after coming to Hope City.
- Kenzo Lane fought violence with violence, causing the weak military forces to become a bunch of villains and rogues without restraints under his training. He dealt with gangsters using gangster rules, which had led to a rapid increase in tax revenue. Under Kenzo’s lead, the rich were not rich anymore, and the poor were even poorer, making him the biggest economic beneficiary.
- It was said that there had been no law in Hope City, but now, their law was Kenzo Lane.
- Wade Sterling thought him to be rude and ruthless. However, he had no personal experience with Kenzo, and his presumption was solely made upon hearsays.
- Kenzo was surely handsome and tall as a tall pine. The black suit made him look like a defiant superior. Looking at his eyes, Wade found them to be more majestic and grim than any other general he had ever met before.
- Kenzo was not as arrogant as expected, but people shivered under his calm, cold face.
- “Director Lane, Welcome!” exclaimed Wade as he walked over to Kenzo Lane.
- Kenzo looked at him with a smile.
- “Mayor Sterling, I have long been looking forward to meeting you. Welcome to Hope City.”
- “It’s a great pleasure for me to work with someone like you.”
- “It’s my pleasure.”
- Some brave journalists pointed their cameras at their holding hands. Kenzo glanced coldly toward them and said, “What? Don’t you know that I don’t like taking photos?”
- The journalists looked at each other and put down their cameras. Wade watched them and then looked at the woman who was standing with Kenzo Lane.
- “And you are?”
- “Good evening, Mayor Sterling.” Emerald answers respectfully, “I am Emerald Wilson.”
- Kenzo Lane smiled and kissed Emerald on her forehead. “This is my new pet.”
- Wade was surprised.
- It was commonly known that Kenzo Lane never got too close to women. Even at parties, he was always seen as indifferent toward his female companions. However, he had brought a strange girl today.
- She was quite thin and pleasant to look at but not superior to the other guests. Her features were as gentle as sketches, with her pale skin as the background. She seemed to be honest, silent, and overcautious. She had stumbled when she walked in and would’ve tripped over by her long dress had Kenzo not been holding her silently.
- Her accent was not a local accent.
- Why had Kenzo Lane brought this girl with him?
- The party went on smoothly and gracefully. Some girls, whose fathers were directors or brothers were generals, played the flute or danced for the guests, providing for a great atmosphere.
- The night was cold, and Moon Sally and Moon Sammi rose to the sky. Emerald looked at the two moons above her and forced a bitter smile.
- “Why are you smiling?” Kenzo, who talked to some local rich man, suddenly turned around to ask her.
- Last night she had offered herself to serve him shamelessly and prove her usefulness but had been pushed away halfway through. He had pulled up his pants as he stood up and left the room without saying anything. Left alone, she had been sitting in her long dress, feeling anxious about her future.
- Now, Emerald looked at his cold face as she answered in a daze. “It would be good if there was only one moon.”
- “If there was only one moon,” Kenzo looked at her, “the orbit and force of this planet would change, and we would all die.”
- Emerald didn’t respond.
- “Do you think that would be good?” Kenzo looked at her, questioning.
- “No....”
- “Mr. Mayor, Secretary Baker, please look there!” Someone said humbly.
- The flashlight kept going. Emerald looked over and saw people in expensive clothes standing in front of the elegant gate, busy taking pictures with their mayor, who seemed strong and just, standing in the center.
- At that moment, Emerald suddenly felt a strong wind gust beside her. The person standing beside her disappeared before she understood what was happening.
- “Ah!” She heard someone screaming. Emerald saw a middle-aged man covering his chest and bleeding severely at the photo scene. In front of him, a tall man in a black suit was overpowering another man, pressing him to the ground.
- Kenzo and Wade both raised their heads, pulled out their guns, and looked around cautiously.
- At the sight of blood, people started panicking, screaming, and running around in desperation, leading to chaos in the garden.
- “Bang... Bang... Bang!” Emerald heard the sound of gunshots as she ran to Kenzo for protection by instinct.
- “Bang... Bang... Bang!” The sounds of gunshots hauled through the air from all around, and she couldn’t tell which direction the shots were coming from. Then, a bullet finally passed so close to her foot that it made her jump to Kenzo’s feet.
- She was pulled up from the ground by a big, strong hand the next second. She looked up and saw a man in a black suit disappearing immediately.
- Even though it was chaotic in the garden, she felt a little relieved.
- A group of men had come immediately to surround Kenzo and Wade to protect them. They were standing against the screen wall, ready to start a gunfight with the intruders. People kept falling as they got hurt by a gunshot in the garden while Emerald was surrounded by a bunch of tall men, making her feel the safest of all people present.
- Obviously, Kenzo had saved Wade when the shooting started. Now, they were both holding guns and standing at each corner respectively to guide people to safety while fighting back at the enemy on the other side.
- “Do you want to die?” Kenzo stood in front of Emerald and asked without turning back, “or why did you run to the place with more bullets?”
- “I just ran to a safe place.” She answered in a low voice. The flower shelf she was standing under was shot into a griddle. She knew that the intruders wouldn’t let her, the woman Kenzo brought with him, go if they succeeded in killing Wade Sterling.
