Chapter 2 Investigating Records

  • Outside the intensive care unit of the hospital.
  • Celeste leaned against the glass wall, her gaze affectionately lingering on the elegantly serene woman sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed.
  • “Mom, Dad has passed away...”
  • As she reflected on the day's events, tears involuntarily filled her eyes.
  • On the night of her eighteenth birthday, her mother was involved in a car accident, which left her in a vegetative state. She has been in a coma for four years now.
  • “Mom, when will you wake up? You're all I have left...”
  • “Ms. Xenos.” At that moment, her mother's primary doctor approached.
  • “The medical bills for your mother's treatment in the second half of the year are due. The total comes to a million.”
  • Celeste's heart grew increasingly heavy. “Dr. Campbell, our family has gone bankrupt, and my father... Could you give me a few days?”
  • “Ms. Xenos, please accept my condolences! I will do my best to buy you some time,” he said.
  • After the doctor left, Celeste fell into even deeper despair. Xenos Corporation was facing a debt of three billion, and her mother's medical expenses were imminent. What was she to do?
  • Celeste stumbled out of the hospital, vacant and disoriented, as if she were a lone spirit lost in the world.
  • Just then, her phone rang.
  • The call had come from the jewelry design company where she worked.
  • The moment Celeste answered the call, she was greeted by the sharp, furious voice of her boss. “Celeste! You've got some nerve, using plagiarized designs and causing the company to lose a collaboration deal worth four million! If you don't transfer twenty million in damages to the company's account within three days, prepare to face a lawsuit!”
  • Celeste was taken aback, almost losing her footing.
  • Her designs were absolutely original and had repeatedly won awards. There was no chance of any problems occurring.
  • “I...” Before she could explain, the other party had already hung up the phone.
  • The design draft she had drawn at home was now in question, and she was certain that Harriet was the one playing tricks.
  • Celeste hastily pocketed her phone and began to dash off, intent on confronting Harriet.
  • Not far off, at the red light intersection, a limited-edition Maybach slowly came to a halt.
  • The car window rolled down, revealing the extraordinarily handsome man in the back seat with a remarkable aura on his face.
  • With a composed expression, Hadrian signed his name on the millions-worth collaboration proposal. He then spoke in a soft voice.
  • “Any news from that woman?”
  • “Mr. Lloyd, the hotel's surveillance was under maintenance that night, leaving no records. However, we found out that the room was booked under the name of Gregory, the CEO of Lowe Real Estate. If we locate him, we could potentially find information about Mrs. Lloyd,” Yves reported.
  • Hadrian slightly furrowed his brows. “Send someone to investigate. Find that woman as soon as possible!”
  • “Noted, Mr. Lloyd!”
  • Subsequently, the green light illuminated, and the Maybach accelerated. However, at that moment, a woman came rushing over.
  • There wasn't enough time for the driver to hit the brakes.
  • Bang!
  • The woman was sent flying.
  • “Mr. Lloyd...” Yves said, his face pale with fright.
  • “Take that person to the hospital,” Hadrian commanded coldly.
  • Immediately after, he furrowed his brows and looked out the window, only to see a slender woman lying not too far ahead of the car.
  • The woman possessed a fair complexion, complemented by beautiful hair. Her curved brows and big eyes were as captivating as a painting, and she radiated a gentle elegance.
  • Hadrian's gaze lingered on the woman for quite some time.
  • He had never paid such attention to a woman before.
  • This woman seemed to possess a certain enchantment, compelling his gaze toward her uncontrollably.
  • He had only experienced this unique sensation with that woman the previous night.
  • Casting his gaze downward, Hadrian noticed a necklace around the woman's neck. It bore a striking resemblance to the style of the earring.
  • Hadrian's eyes flickered, and he immediately pushed open the car door and strode over. Before Yves could react, he scooped up the woman in his arms.
  • “Ask Zachary to return to the Lloyd manor immediately!”
  • He issued an order urgently.
  • Celeste felt a profound pain engulfing her entire body as if all her internal organs had shifted out of place.
  • She was enveloped in a strong and comforting embrace, an embrace that felt incredibly familiar.
  • Celeste barely lifted her eyelids, catching sight of a remarkably handsome face that was unparalleled in its beauty.
  • His face... it seemed like she had seen it somewhere before.
  • Before she had a chance to think, a wave of dizziness washed over her, and she passed out.
  • Ten minutes later, the Maybach hurriedly pulled up inside the Lloyd manor.
  • When Hadrian helped Celeste out of the car, Zachary Lloyd was already waiting outside the main gate.
  • Upon seeing his brother, who'd never shown interest in women, actually cradling a woman in his arms gently, Zachary was nearly floored with surprise.
  • Are my eyes playing tricks on me?
  • Zachary couldn't help but rub his eyes, only to see Hadrian holding a woman, getting closer and closer to him.
  • Hadrian merely gave him a casual glance.
  • “She's injured and requires immediate medical attention.”
  • “All right. The patient takes priority.”
  • Zachary had no time for idle chatter as he rushed to the infirmary with the Lloyd family's exclusive medical team.
  • After a series of emergency treatments, Celeste's injuries were successfully managed.
  • Upon opening the door to the infirmary, Zachary saw Hadrian waiting off to the side, his brows furrowed in concern.
  • Zachary chuckled, his face filled with curiosity as he stepped forward. “Come clean. Is this lady my future sister-in-law? She's the first woman you've ever held! Just a minor injury and you're frightened enough to have me, the hospital director, rush back. I've never seen you so flustered before!”
  • Hadrian was slightly taken aback, only then realizing how anxious he felt about that woman.
  • He had always found himself repulsed by the touch of women, yet when he held her, he felt no discomfort, neither in his heart nor in his body.
  • A hint of discomfort flashed across Hadrian's face.
  • He turned his back, gazing out into the deep night through the window, and spoke in an indifferent tone. “I don't know her. Today is the first time I've seen her.”
  • “Wow, miracles do happen,” he said. “If Grandma knew you finally decided to interact with women, she'd probably be so overjoyed she'd jump out of bed and do a happy dance.”
  • Hadrian cut him off, “You're not needed here anymore. Please leave.”
  • “All right. I'm leaving...”
  • In regard to his younger brother, who was three years his junior, Zachary harbored a deep-seated fear within his heart. After all, his brother's methods were ruthless, cold-hearted, and lethal...
  • However, now, he is surprisingly caring about a woman.
  • The iceberg is about to melt.
  • Before he left, Zachary cast a meaningful glance at Hadrian.
  • It seemed as if he was waiting for Hadrian to become foolishly infatuated, wildly in love...
  • After seeing off Zachary, Yves returned with a small, coffee-colored purse.
  • “Mr. Lloyd, these are the items belonging to that young lady.”
  • Along with it, a student ID was also handed over.
  • Hadrian's eyes lightened as he unfolded the student ID, immediately laying eyes on a breathtakingly pure and beautiful ID photo.
  • Hadrian's gaze paused, seriously looking at Yves.
  • “Head over to Royal Inn immediately, and check if there's any record of Celeste staying there last night.”
