Chapter 1 Rich Hot And Infertile Husband (Or Maybe Not)
- “Ms. Celeste Campbell, have you managed to contact any of your family?” The nurse must’ve asked this a million times already. Celeste glanced at her phone, but still no answer from Liam Reed. A terrible pile–up happened on a J City overpass up north. A public bus flipped over and fell into the river, sending dozens of injured people to the hospital. Family members were rushing to their loved ones, but hers remained unreachable. The horrifying scene of the accident still lingered in her mind. Yet, that fear was nothing compared to the coldness she felt. at this moment.
- She suddenly thought, if she died in the accident today, would there even be anyone to claim her body? “Ma’am?” The nurse asked. Celeste snapped back to reality, her face pale. With a raspy voice, she asked desperately, “I’m sorry, he must be busy. Can I sign the papers myself?” “Sorry, but without a family member’s signature, we advise you to stay for observation. Concussions can be mild or severe, and we have to be responsible for your safety.” The nurse said. Celeste pursed her lips, “I’ll try again.” She took her phone and left the room. As she walked by, she heard two nurses pushing an instrument cart, one of them saying. “Do you know who’s in bed sixteen?” “Who?” “Sydney Denton! The big star! She’s the lead actress in that popular TV show Mystery Lover!” “Oh my God! Is she badly injured?” “Just a few scratches on her arm. But being a big celebrity who relies on their looks to make a living, she’s definitely more dramatic than us ordinary people.
- If I were that pretty, I’d insure every inch of my body!” “Right! I also saw her boyfriend earlier! The one caught with her at Grandview Villa not long ago!” Celeste stopped in her tracks. “That guy is tall, handsome, and looks rich. Most importantly, he treats Sydney so well. He rushed here as soon as the accident happened and stayed with her the entire time. Why do some women just seem to be born winners?” Their voices faded away as they moved further. Celeste clenched her phone, her fingertips turning white. Outside the ward, Liam was talking to Sydney’s agent. Although there was some distance between them, Celeste felt like he was expressing anger on Sydney’s behalf. Celeste took out her phone and called Liam. Liam hesitated for a moment, looked at the phone, and his frown deepened. He answered, annoyed, “What is it?” “Where are you?” Celeste’s voice was a little hoarse, fragile. Liam didn’t notice. He coldly replied, “At the company.
- ” “Has Reed Group ventured into the hospital business?” Celeste asked. Liam stopped walking, his face looked even darker, “Are you following me?” Celeste wanted to laugh, but her eyes filled with tears. “Mr. Reed is too flattering,” she paused, then continued, “I saw someone who looked like you on the news and just thought I’d check.” Liam replied, “Boring,” and hung up, then turned and entered the room. Celeste gave a bitter smile, thinking how pathetic she was for calling and humiliating herself when she already knew the truth. In the end, Trisha Colton picked her up Celeste didn’t want to bother her friend if she had any family to contact, as she Chapter 1 didn’t want to showcase her lousy life to others. Whether it was mockery or pity, it would only make her embarrassed. “Where’s Liam?” Trisha asked. “He’s at the company.” Celeste thought, well, that was what he told her. Trisha gripped the steering wheel and cursed, “What a bastard! His wife’s in an accident, and he doesn’t even show up. What’s the point of making so much money? To buy himself a coffin?” Celeste joked, “Or maybe to buy me one.”
- Trisha glared, “You’re still in the mood for jokes! Someone died in the other car!” “Yeah,” she lowered her eyes, almost whispering, “I almost died too…” Trisha had other things to do, so she hastily dropped Celeste off at home. When Celeste returned, she greeted the housekeeper and went upstairs. After her shower, she saw that the traffic accident had become a hot topic. However, most of the focus was on Sydney. Except for the official media that highlighted the severity of the accident, entertainment section focused on Sydney’s mysterious boyfriend. The media didn’t dare reveal Liam’s identity, only vaguely mentioning that the man was extremely wealthy. Sydney’s fans were busy debunking rumors while also worrying about her injuries. Celeste found it funny, as the nurse had said Sydney only had scratches.
- But soon her face turned ugly, her heart pounding with anxiety as she saw Sydney posting an ultrasound on Facebook, announcing she was six weeks pregnant. Six weeks ago was the day Liam was photographed at Grandview Villa. The timing matched perfectly. Celeste stared blankly at the screen, her heart twisted into a knot. Their three–year marriage was like a blank sheet of paper. Before marrying her, Liam was already with Sydney. His grandmother disapproved of Sydney’s background and forced them apart. Heartbroken, Liam chose Celeste, the one with the worst family background among the many ladies waiting for a marriage alliance, as a way to rebel against his family. Celeste’s family sought the protection of the Reeds, and Liam wanted to use Celeste’s identity.
- Their marriage was a perfect match, each getting what they wanted. No one knew that what she wanted was Liam himself. In love, the one who fell first lost. Sydney’s existence was like a thorn in her marriage. She tried to ignore it, letting the thorn grow deeper into her flesh. She thought it would disappear with time, but instead, it took root and tore her marriage apart. Her perseverance became the biggest joke. When Liam returned, it was almost 10 o’clock. The house was quiet, with only the housekeeper around. “Where’s my wife?” Liam furrowed his brow. The housekeeper took his coat, whispering, “She went straight to her room when she got home and hasn’t come out since, didn’t even eat dinner. I’ll heat up the meal and bring it to her room.” “No need,” Liam replied indifferently, “She’ll come down if she’s hungry.” The housekeeper didn’t ask any further. Liam took a shower and hung out in his study for a while. When it hit 11 o’clock, he checked his watch.
- Usually, around this time, Celeste would bring him some milk, even when they were fighting, she’d have the maid deliver it. But today, after more than ten minutes past 11, there was no sign of movement at the door of the study. Liam couldn’t really concentrate on his documents anymore, so after a few more minutes, he got up and went back to the bedroom. As he pushed the door open, the room was pitch–black, and he could only vaguely see the person lying on the bed. As soon as Celeste heard the door open, she opened her eyes, but she didn’t move. When she felt the bed sink beside her. she knew Liam had lain down. Chapter 2 She rolled over and reached into his pajamas. Feeling the muscles tense up under her hand, she got naughtier and naughtier. Liam’s breathing became more rapid, and as she continued to explore, he suddenly grabbed her hand. Liam flipped her over, and pinned her beneath him, “What are you doing?”
