Chapter 185
- ****
- The night sky grew quiet as the estate became calm. While Killian remained in his study, his mind was still wrapped around the thought of finally taking his revenge on the people who ruined his life. Killian stared at the hidden safe under his desk, a small space that no one knew about or his password to. He reached out and pushed in the pins of the safe, and in seconds it was open. Killian had then reached into the compartment and brought out documents and files—files filled with fortunes and inheritance from his father—that were all left to him. This was the original deed to the Goldcrest lands, and yes, he was with it. He threw out a bone to Herron with the hope that they would feel threatened enough to investigate, threatened enough to see that their mystery man Killian had told them about did not exist; rather, he was the real heir, alive, and was right in their face the whole time. This thought grew darker with each passing moment until he heard a knock on the door that broke his train of thought. "Come in," he mumbled as soon as Killian recognized the scent. The door creaked open, the noise louder because of how quiet the house was, and he beheld the small frame that belonged to Brynn. "You called for me?" Brynn asks, her voice filled with a seed of disbelief, but Killian has settled and leaned far into his chair to watch her every delicate move, from her dainty fingers that pinched on her skin to her hands moving up to tuck the stray hair distracting her. She was distracting. His inquisitive skills didn’t stop there. He noticed how sullen she had become and how she couldn’t meet his eye. Something was up, and he was going to find out what.
- "What is going on with that kind of yours?" He muttered louder so she would hear.
