• Ruby couldn't help but clamber down from the sofa and move to Hale's desk. She peeked over the edge and asked, "Bubba, what are you writing?"
• Hale took out an ink pad from his drawer and placed a piece of paper in front of her with a smile as mischievous as a fox's. He urged, "Here, Ruby, put your finger print on this paper."
• Ruby's big, clear eyes looked at Hale, then back at the paper. She frowned in confusion.
