Chapter 38

  • Rachel let out another deep breath as she began to clean up the tables in a VIP room, carefully ensuring that it was spotless and ready for the next night's event. Her eyes wandered at the men and women swaying their hips with cigarettes and laughter filling the dimly lit room. Beneath the vibrant lights, she felt like an invisible observer among glittering guests. She had to constantly remind herself that this was her new life and when she stepped out of the VIP room, her reflection staring back at her in the oval mirror, she felt different seeing how much had changed in the past six weeks.
  • Her hair was short, trimmed down to her shoulders and now completely blonde, a transformation she never imagined undertaking. She wore a plain black dress with that stopped just two inches above her knees. It was simple, with a low neckline and easy to move in, perfect for her job at the club. She had a thin silver bracelet on her wrist and small earrings in her ears. She missed the familiarity of her old self but felt a strange excitement for the new persona she was crafting for herself. This wasn't just a job anymore; it was an opportunity to redefine who she was.
  • Her eyes then caught Harold, the manager who always had dirty yellow teeth and was always picking on her, it started with her outfit being too dry and then about her being slow on her feet. Rachel was about to turn around when she heard his grating voice call her name from across the room.
