Chapter 6 I Have Dignity Too

  • As she was about to hit the ground, a strong and powerful arm wrapped around her slender waist, gently pulling her back into a solid embrace.
  • Her head was still spinning, and she instinctively clutched onto the man's shirt, pressing her body against his.
  • Through the thin fabric, she could almost vividly feel the man's sexy muscles, as if they were iron blocks wrapped in velvet. They exuded infinite strength.
  • "Is your brain underdeveloped?"
  • A deep and mocking voice sounded, instantly bringing her back to her senses. She quickly released her grip and stood up straight.
  • "I-I'm not underdeveloped. Back in school, I was always the champion in short-distance running."
  • Conrad narrowed his eyes slightly, a hint of coldness appearing in his icy gaze. "Then, you must have done it on purpose."
  • She's trying to seduce me! This isn't the first time, though. She even played tricks on me in the elevator.
  • Angela choked back her anger. Instantly, three words popped into her head. I'm unjustly accused!
  • "I suddenly felt a bit dizzy just now. It must have been a pregnancy reaction. How could I dare to seduce you? Even if I had ten thousand times the courage, I wouldn't dare to do so."
  • Conrad, however, found it hard to believe her.
  • As the top male who stood at the apex of the pyramid, countless women crawled at his feet for scraps. He had seen these tricks countless times.
  • "Know your place. You're just a vessel and a very crude one at that. Don't daydream about anything else, or else you'll be in for a rough time."
  • His tone was extremely cold, freezing Angela in place.
  • A vessel? Crude? The insult cuts deep, indeed! It's simply a massive hit on my self-esteem!
  • Her fists clenched silently, and a surge of anger rushed to her head, engulfing her rationality.
  • "Mr. Heathcliff, even though I'm just an inconspicuous employee, I have my dignity. If I'm a vessel, then what about your child? Is it just a piece of cargo? Don't forget that your child carries half of my genes too!"
  • A glimmer of crimson flashed across Conrad's face, making his handsome eyebrows furrow.
  • The genes of a vessel? That's completely negligible!
  • He gently pushed her, pressing her against the wall. "Are you trying to threaten me with the child?"
  • Angela's brain and rationality were now controlled by her wounded self-esteem. Her courage swelled like a hot air balloon. "I hope you can respect me. If you can't, I don't want to be a vessel anymore. It's better to unload the cargo sooner!"
  • To Conrad, each word was a daring provocation.
  • His gaze suddenly turned cold, and a hint of hostility appeared. He grabbed her chin as he growled, "I'm warning you—if you dare to harm a single hair on the children, I'll make sure you never see the sun tomorrow!"
  • His fingers tightened slightly, exerting just enough force to cause a subtle, painful sensation.
  • Angela gritted her teeth. "Rest assured. As long as you can give me the minimum respect, I will give birth to the child. Also, I have someone I like. In this lifetime, I will only like him and no one else, so you don't need to worry at all."
  • After saying that, she forcefully shook off his hand and ran out.
  • Conrad watched her retreating figure, his gaze becoming darker and colder, freezing even the light that shone through.
  • He had thought Angela Banner was a coward without the courage to do anything. He never expected her to dare to defy him!
  • On the other end, as soon as Angela stepped out, she regretted it. Darn, what did I just say? Do I not want my job anymore?!
  • She slapped her mouth twice.
  • Whenever her brain was functioning, she couldn't say such things.
  • However, she didn't plan on apologizing and going back.
  • After all, I'm not wrong!
  • As she reached the elevator, a wave of nausea suddenly hit her. She covered her mouth and gagged at the side.
  • Coincidentally, at that moment, Wilhelmina walked out of the elevator and immediately noticed her.
  • She rushed over and grabbed Angela's arm. "What's wrong? Didn't you have an abortion? Why are you still vomiting?"
