Chapter 7 Have You Gone Mad?

  • Angela was startled. Bile surged up her throat, and she swallowed it back in fear.
  • "Um... The doctor prescribed some medicine for me. It's quite irritating to the stomach, and I feel nauseous every time I take it."
  • "I see."
  • Wilhelmina glanced at Angela, half believing it. "I heard that after having an abortion, you have to rest for several days. Why are you back to work so soon?"
  • Angela tried her best to maintain calmness and even deliberately jumped up and down a few times to dispel Wilhelmina's doubts.
  • "I've already rested for four days, which is more than enough. Besides, I have a tough constitution, and I'm not that delicate."
  • Wilhelmina breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that the child had been aborted. For a moment, she was really scared.
  • "Did you just go to Mr. Heathcliff's office?"
  • Angela nodded. "My supervisor asked me to hand over the new design proposal to Mr. Heathcliff for review."
  • She quickly pressed the elevator button and slipped inside as soon as the doors opened.
  • The atmosphere was too awkward, and she didn't want to stay a second longer.
  • If Wilhelmina finds out that I haven't aborted the child and have even married the CEO, she will probably go crazy!
  • Meanwhile, Wilhelmina stared fixedly at the closing elevator doors, a hint of malice flashing in her eyes.
  • This b*tch came out of nowhere. If it weren't for her Brundellian name being the same as mine, how could the doctor have made such a mistake? I can't let her stay at the MG Group anymore. Such annoying trash should be completely removed.
  • The annual performance evaluation of the company was soon released.
  • Angela suddenly became the center of attention.
  • She was the first E-rated employee since Conrad took office and the only one in the company in nearly five years.
  • The MG Group's performance evaluation was divided into five levels: A, B, C, D, and E, with E being the worst rating and facing the risk of dismissal.
  • Angela could hardly believe her eyes as she stared at the computer screen for a full five minutes, feeling as if thunder had struck her.
  • She had worked diligently and conscientiously every day, so how could she be rated as an E?
  • Taking a deep breath, she walked toward the supervisor's office.
  • "Miss Kelly, why did I receive an E rating in my performance evaluation?"
  • Kelly glanced at her indifferently. "I rate all my colleagues fairly and justly."
  • Angela was speechless upon hearing that. Is there a misunderstanding about fairness and justice? I've always been cautious and have never had any conflicts with her. What did I do to provoke her?
  • "Since I joined, I have never been late or left early, nor have I taken any off days. I always complete the design plans ahead of time. There's no way I deserve an E!" Angela exclaimed.
  • Kelly shrugged at that. "I don't think you fit in our department. Everyone here has studied abroad, except for you, who graduated from a local university. You never join the gatherings and don't really blend in with the team. It's better for you to find a company that suits you."
  • Angela then realized that Kelly had been biased against herself. Initially, the latter didn't agree to hire her, but it was Amie, the HR director, who recognized her design talent and made an exception to hire her.
  • As for not attending the gatherings, it was because Angela didn't have money. Apart from a meager living allowance, she had spent all her money on her brother's medical expenses.
  • "If you think so poorly of me, then why did you use my design drafts? Don't forget that you made promises to me before," Angela stated.
  • There was no mention of her name on the design drafts. Only Kelly's name was on there. It was like a disguised act of plagiarism. If it weren't for the promise of a promotion, Angela wouldn't have swallowed her pride.
  • Kelly's mouth twitched. If my design proposals hadn't been repeatedly rejected by Mr. Heathcliff, why would I risk using Angela's designs?
  • "Angela, let me tell you the truth—this was decided from above. Personally, I really appreciate you, but I'm just a department head, and I can't do anything about it," Kelly said.
  • Angela was taken aback and immediately thought of someone.
  • "You mean Mr. Heathcliff?" she asked.
  • Kelly didn't answer but let out a sigh, essentially confirming it.
  • Angela was stunned, and her mind was in chaos. Just because she had confronted him a few days ago, he sought revenge and wanted to fire her.
  • The great CEO of the group is acting so petty and vengeful, huh? Unbelievable!
  • She turned and walked out, heading straight to the CEO's office.
  • The Heathcliff Corporation owned dozens of listed companies, and the MG Group was just one of them. Conrad used to only come for regular meetings, but recently, he had been there every day.
  • Right now, he was leaning back in his large chair, sipping a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
  • Angela had no time for beating around the bush. She went straight to the point as soon as she entered.
  • "Mr. Heathcliff, I received an E in my performance evaluation. Did you know that?"
  • Conrad's long fingers tapped on the table twice.
  • He had already been aware of this in the morning. Is she here to complain about things to me?
  • "Those who can enter the MG Group are all elites. You are indeed different," he replied, his tone filled with mockery. Angela could clearly sense it, and her frustration grew.
  • "I am different. I am your vessel, Mr. Heathcliff. A new broom sweeps clean, and it seems your first task is to burn this crude vessel to ashes."
  • Conrad frowned.
  • Ever since this woman confronted him, the word 'vessel' had become quite grating to his ears.
  • "So, this is how you seek help?"
  • Asking me to intervene while being so confrontational, eh? Is she asking for trouble?
  • Angela glanced at him, seemingly understanding something, and let out a low hum. "After our argument last time, were you particularly angry? Is that why you tampered with my performance evaluation, hoping that I would apologize and beg you?"
  • Conrad was slightly taken aback upon hearing that.
  • Does this woman actually think I'm up to something?
  • "Have you gone mad? Do I look that idle to you?"
