Chapter 5 Hidden Marriage, Hidden Pregnancy
- Angela was a weak, pitiful, and helpless woman. How could she confront the mighty Conrad Heathcliff?
- If she offended him, she would be fired and end up on the streets.
- However, she was stubborn deep down and didn't fear authority, which made her want to stick to her own beliefs.
- "Mr. Heathcliff…"
- She was about to resist fearlessly when her phone rang. It was her mother calling.
- "Angie, Jake's condition suddenly worsened, and he has been admitted to the ICU. Quickly transfer me 7500 first. We're still unsure of how much more we will need. Find a way to gather as much as possible."
- Angela's heart sank. In an instant, all her stubbornness and her insistence shattered as if the glass was hit by a bullet and turned into powder.
- She didn't even have 75, not to mention 7500. Besides selling herself, what else could she do?
- She bit her lip forcefully, and her voice came out like a mosquito's buzz.
- "Mr. Heathcliff, I can agree to your request, but… can you lend me 7500 first? I will repay you in monthly installments."
- There was a tinge of contempt and disgust in Conrad's eyes.
- So, she wants to ask for more money in advance, huh? She is truly a greedy and scheming woman.
- He took out a credit card and threw it to her. "This card has a monthly limit of 30,000. Consider it your living expenses."
- Angela tightly gripped the card. It was light, but it felt as heavy as a thousand pounds in her hand.
- She had never wanted any living expenses. This money was borrowed, and she would repay it.
- However, she didn't say anything. She just silently lowered her head.
- The car arrived at the city hall, and the marriage registration took only a few minutes.
- Conrad arranged an apartment for Angela, with Lana Poller taking care of her daily life and keeping an eye on her every move.
- "Remember, the child is gone. Don't give away any hints."
- "What should I do when my stomach starts to show?"
- "I will take care of that."
- "Oh." She nodded obediently and didn't ask any further.
- Although Angela didn't understand his intentions, he was the boss, her provider, and she could only obey without daring to defy.
- Conrad's cold gaze swept across her cheek. "Do not disclose a single word about the marriage. It is temporary, and you are not my wife."
- "I know." Angela shrugged. She didn't see him as a husband either. She compromised solely to save her brother.
- If it weren't for her brother's worsening condition and the urgent need for money, she would never have given in, even if she was threatened or tempted.
- Conrad left after giving some instructions to Lana.
- After the weekend, Angela went to the company.
- The design department director, Kelly Donoham, handed her the design proposals for the new quarter. "Take these and deliver them to Mr. Heathcliff."
- What? Am I supposed to deliver them?
- Angela had a thousand objections in her heart.
- She and Conrad were currently in a hidden marriage with a hidden pregnancy. It meant that they shouldn't meet and maintain their original lives. She didn't want to get into trouble.
- "I'm just an assistant designer. It's not quite appropriate for me to deliver them, right?"
- "What's inappropriate about it? Weren't you the one who designed it? Hurry up and go. Don't dawdle. We have a meeting later." Kelly smiled with a hint of malice.
- Truth was, she did it on purpose. The incident in the elevator had spread throughout the entire company.
- Kelly wanted to see if Angela would provoke Conrad and get herself fired or if she would impress him and take a shortcut.
- Angela could only helplessly steel herself and go to the president's office.
- "Mr. Heathcliff, these are the design proposals for the new quarter from the design department. Please review them."
- Conrad raised his head and gave her a fleeting glance that was as cold as ever.
- "Put them aside."
- Angela hummed in agreement, knowing that he didn't want to see her. She placed the documents on the table and turned to leave.
- However, a sudden dizziness struck her as she reached the door. Her vision went black, and she instinctively reached out to grab the door frame, but her hand slipped, and her body fell heavily backward.
