Chapter 4 Conrad's Forced Marriage
- "I'm… I'm ready."
- Angela swallowed hard and turned to look at Conrad, who was sitting beside her.
- He had also entered the operating room, seemingly worried that she would back out, and wanted to supervise the procedure to ensure it was completed.
- "Mr. Heathcliff, could you please leave first? Don't worry. I will definitely go through with the surgery."
- After all, she was still unmarried, and she wanted some privacy.
- He completely ignored her request, and his expression was as cold as ice. "Perform the examination."
- What examination?
- Angela was confused, but before she knew it, the doctor had placed the ultrasound probe on her abdomen.
- "There are two gestational sacs. You're having twins! They're about one and a half months old, and the fetal heartbeats are normal."
- What? I'm pregnant with twins?!
- Angela's heart tightened, and she instinctively closed her eyes as she was unable to bear looking at the ultrasound machine.
- It was still a bit heart-wrenching to think that two little lives would be lost later.
- However, Conrad kept staring at the screen while a faint glimmer passed through his eyes.
- "The surgery is over. Change your clothes and come with me."
- What?
- Angela froze. She opened her eyes wide and looked at him as if she was afraid that she had misheard.
- "The surgery… hasn't started."
- Conrad glanced at his watch without explaining anything. "You have five minutes. Don't dawdle."
- Angela was utterly bewildered.
- Has he changed his mind because we're having twins?
- Once she got inside the car, Angela felt anxious. She curled up by the window while occasionally stealing glances at the man beside her.
- His handsome face showed no expression. It was as if he was wearing an icy mask.
- His heart is as unfathomable as the depths of the sea!
- The driver in the front seat turned around to report to Conrad, "Miss Prescott has been kept busy outside the gynecology department by our people."
- Conrad nodded slightly. "Drive."
- How could he actually go through with the abortion? It was just a smoke screen.
- Meanwhile, Angela had no idea about his intentions and felt restless. "Where are we going?"
- Conrad took out a stack of documents from his briefcase and handed them to her. "Sign it."
- What's this?
- She took a glance, and her jaw nearly dropped in shock.
- It was a prenuptial agreement!
- What does this mean?
- She quickly skimmed through it. The general idea was that Conrad wanted to marry her, and after the children were born, she could divorce and receive 15 million in compensation.
- Fifteen million was enough for her and her family to live a comfortable life for generations.
- Conrad was truly worthy of his name. He was so extravagant!
- However…
- "I can give birth to the children, but can we not get married?"
- In the future, the marriage certificate would have 'remarriage' written on it when she got married again, which felt awkward no matter how she looked at it.
- Conrad didn't want to marry her either, but in the Heathcliff Family, the legitimate son held a significant position.
- The reason he was able to surpass his three older brothers and inherit the family business was not only because of his extraordinary talent but also because he was the legitimate son.
- Therefore, his child had to have a legitimate status.
- "Is the money not enough?"
- "No!" Angela quickly shook her head.
- She couldn't earn 15 million even in three lifetimes. How could she dare to find it insufficient?
- "Don't you have a fiancée? If she finds out that you're marrying someone else, she will be heartbroken, even if it's a fake marriage."
- Even if it was a fake marriage, no woman would want her fiancé to marry someone else.
- A cold and sinister smile appeared on Conrad's lips.
- The marriage had been arranged by Tim Heathcliff while he was still alive, but Conrad had no intention of marrying Wilhelmina.
- "That's none of your concern."
- His overwhelming presence exuded a strong sense of oppression which made Angela feel suffocated, and her voice became quieter. "But… I don't want to get married."
- Is this an attempt to gain something by refusing?
- Conrad frowned, and a chilling aura slowly emanated from his body as if he could freeze the woman in front of him into an iceberg.
- "Don't play games with me. Sign it, or else not only will you not get a single cent, but you can also forget about staying in Drumston in the future."
- Each word carried a serious threat which caused Angela to shudder.
