• I was stunned, to say the least. My mind raced with a million different thoughts, most of them centered around the idea that this was some sort of cruel joke. Maybe Nate and his friends were trying to humiliate me, to see how far they could push the bullied girl before she finally broke.
• But as I looked into Nate's eyes, I could see that he was sincere. He really did want to take me to prom.
• I didn't know what to say. I didn't know how to react. So I told him that I needed a moment to think about it. And then I ran.
