Chapter 6 Go Back and Wait for News
- With that, Molly’s temper tantrum ended. She was so attracted by the colorful cakes that she forgot about the matter regarding her school for the time being. Thus, Grand Madam Knight’s birthday party went smoothly.
- Once the party ended, Grace noticed that the chefs of the Grand Star Hotel were finishing up soon. Then, she cracked her head trying to find a way to continue staying here.
- At that moment, the Knight Family’s butler came to inform her that she was wanted at the study on the second floor—Christopher was waiting for her.
- Overjoyed, she immediately followed him to the second floor. Christopher probably wanted to discuss with her about staying on to make desserts for the Knight Family. From what she could tell, he might be strict, but he loved Molly very much and took every word his daughter said to heart.
- The study door was ajar. As she approached the door, she could hear the voices inside.
- “Back when you found Molly at the orphanage, you must have known that she was my child. Tell me what the reason was for you to adopt her. Also, tell me what you want for you to give up custody rights to Molly.” Christopher’s voice was icy cold.
- Grace, who stood outside the door, was taken aback. The custody rights to Molly are still in Bethany’s hands! No wonder she could freely enter and exit the Knight Residence for the past three years.
- Bethany’s voice was full of grievances. “Christopher, you’ve misunderstood me. There was no purpose behind adopting Molly. As you know, I’ve loved you for ten years. No matter who Molly’s biological mother is, I will treat Molly like my own daughter.”
- “Is that so? Bethany, I only tolerated you because of Mr. Johnson. In that case, I will ask a lawyer to bring the paternity test to the courts tomorrow to apply for the custody rights to Molly.”
- “Christopher, what did I do wrong? I only fell in love with you by accident, so why do you have to treat me like this?”
- Then, Christopher’s voice revealed his frustrations and suppressed anger as he said, “You better give up while I’m still patient. Otherwise, don’t blame me for ignoring the relationship between our families.”
- The room fell into silence for a moment, then Grace could hear the low crying sounds of Bethany.
- “Get lost!” It seemed like his patience was at its end.
- As Bethany came out with her hand covering her mouth, she ran into Grace.
- In seven years, Grace had changed a lot. The acne that once peppered her face was gone and her figure was much slimmer than before. Thus, Bethany could not recognize her at all.
- Glaring hatefully at Grace, she turned around and left.
- Grace looked coldly upon the retreating figure of Bethany.
- I will never forget that she attempted to kill me back then! Because of her, I was imprisoned by Natasha and her family! Because of her, my nine babies were sold off and I don’t know where they are now! Now, she caused my daughter to be so ill-mannered too. I’m going to make her pay for everything she did to me!
- “Come in!” At that moment, Christopher’s cold voice came through the crack of the door.
- Taking deep breaths, she got her emotions under control, pushed the door open, and walked in. “President Knight, were you looking for me?”
- He looked up and took in the sight of her. She was dressed in a grey uniform and her hair was tied back in a ponytail. Moreover, she had a slim figure and a pretty face. Overall, she looked like a girl-next-door type of person. Then, he picked up the documents in his hand and stared at her. “Grace Thompson; Imperial University dropout; a national top-class pâtissière who once worked as the shop manager of the Little Dessert Shop. Is that right?”
- “Yes.” She lowered her head to conceal her surprise.
- I can’t believe he found out so much about me in such a short time.
- “The Little Dessert Shop is a famous dessert chain in the country. I’m curious; why did you give up the excellent treatment there and come to the Grand Star Hotel to be nothing more than a pâtissière? The prestige you receive here is far less compared to what you enjoyed at the Little Dessert Shop.” His cold voice was heavy with wariness and suspicions.
- She kept her head lowered, pretending to look nervous as she gripped the hem of her sleeves tightly. “I-It’s because of personal reasons.” He only managed to investigate up until the fact that she used to work as the shop manager of the Little Dessert Shop, but did not find out that she was actually the behind-the-scenes owner of the Little Dessert Shop.
- Seems like Dylan is still doing an amazing job at concealing information.
- “What personal reasons? Besides, the Imperial University is a well-known university in the country. Why did you drop out after half a semester in your freshman year?”
- “Huh?” Grace couldn’t help lifting her head in surprise and glancing at Christopher. Then, she hurriedly lowered her head again.
- Aren’t I just a lowly pâtissière? Why is President Knight behaving like he is interrogating a criminal? He is way too cautious!
- “If you won’t say, then I’m afraid the Knight Family will have to let you go.” Christopher’s indifferent voice held an overpowering and imposing aura to it.
- Although Molly liked this pâtissière, all those who approached her had to be deemed safe and reliable.
- “No; I’ll tell you!” Grace answered a little anxiously.
- I finally got an opportunity to get closer to Molly; I must not let something like this ruin everything.
- She took a deep breath before saying in a pained voice, “In the second half of my freshman year, I went out to play with my friends. However, I accidentally fell into the Lucent River. After that, I was kidnapped by human traffickers and sold into the mountainous area. It took six months for me to be rescued from that place. After that, I was terribly traumatized by the incident and had no choice but to drop out of university. Later, I recovered from my trauma and studied pastry making. When I first started working at the Little Dessert Shop, I constantly made mistakes and was always ridiculed by my peers. Once, a customer deliberately tried to find fault with me and humiliated me. At that time, Young Master Edward stepped in and helped me solve the misunderstanding. Ever since then, I’ve been trying to find a way to get closer to Young Master Edward to thank him for standing up for me back then. If it wasn’t for him, I would not have had the courage to persist until now.” She mixed up half-truths and half-lies in her answer, deliberately hiding her true intentions behind a guise of admiration for Edward Knight.
- After listening to her story, Christopher looked sullen. It’s another love interest Edward attracted from outside. “Go back and wait for news!”
- Then, Grace let out a long breath of relief.
- By the time she left the Knight Residence, it was already past 11 PM. She dug out her phone to call a cab. However, a call from Dylan came in at that moment. “Hi, Dylan. Is Kelly making a fuss again?”
- Ever since they were born, Noah and Kayleigh had been together with Grace. In particular, when Kayleigh went to bed at night, she needed to listen to Grace reading her a bedtime story before she was willing to go to sleep.
- Then, Kayleigh’s soft voice came from the other side of the phone suddenly. “Mommy, I’m not as ill-behaved as Sister No.8! I’ve been a very good girl. We’re coming to pick you up, Mommy. Wait for us; we’ll be there soon.”
