Chapter 8 Teaching Bethany Johnson a Lesson
- Grace stopped in her tracks.
- Bethany had an arrogant expression on her face. “Are you the pâtissière from the other day?”
- “Yes,” Grace answered coolly.
- Looking at the haughty and arrogant person in front of her, the hatred buried deep in her heart surged upward again…
- Bethany sized her up, then said, “Here; I’ll give you 1500 a month. Find a way to sneak Molly out every Friday and let me meet her. I don’t have that much cash on me today. I only have 500 right now; consider it your deposit!”
- After that, she dug out 500 from her purse and handed it over.
- Grace sneered in her heart but accepted the money without any fuss. “Who are you? Why do you want to meet President Knight’s treasured daughter? Besides, 500? Are you a beggar?”
- “I will transfer the remaining 1000 to you once you’ve brought Molly out to meet me.”
- “I don’t even know you; what if you renege on the deal? What am I supposed to do then? Moreover, the person you want to meet is President Knight’s treasured daughter! Isn’t 1500 too little?” Then, she stared at the necklace hanging around Bethany’s neck and a smile curled up at the corners of her lips. “Why don’t you give me that necklace of yours? It looks like it should be worth a few bucks.”
- “What do you mean ‘should be’? This necklace is limited-edition!” Bethany clutched at her necklace, unwilling to hand it over.
- “If you don’t want to, then forget it. Find somebody else to help you!” After saying that, Grace pushed the 500 in her hand back at Bethany.
- Seeing that Grace was about to reject the offer, Bethany gritted her teeth and said, “Fine; I’ll give it to you. Don’t forget to bring Molly outside when the time comes.”
- Grace took the necklace and kept it in her pocket, then pretended to ask casually, “By the way, who are you? Why do you have to go so far to meet President Knight’s treasured daughter?”
- In response, Bethany proudly lifted her head and puffed her chest out. “I’m Molly’s mother and President Knight’s lover.”
- Then, Grace tilted her head to the side. “President Knight isn’t married, is he?”
- “He isn’t yet, but we’ll be married soon.”
- “But, I heard that the Johnson Group’s treasured daughter was the one to discover Molly by accident when she volunteered at the orphanage. After that, she adopted her and returned her to her roots by bringing her back to the Knight Residence.”
- “I am the Johnson Group’s treasured daughter, Bethany Johnson. President Knight and I are already in the process of discussing our marriage.”
- Before Bethany could finish her words, Grace threw the money in her hands right into her face and gave her a mocking look. “You? The Johnson Group’s treasured daughter? Don’t joke with me. In my opinion, you’re probably no more than the Knight Family’s housekeeper! You must have made a mistake and got yourself kicked out. You’re trying to bribe me into helping you kidnap President Knight’s treasured daughter for revenge, aren’t you?”
- “You lunatic! How dare you humiliate me like this!” Bethany had been spoiled since she was young. There was no way she had ever received such humiliating treatment before. Thus, she stepped forward and lifted her hand, intending to slap Grace across the face.
- Grace grabbed her wrist forcefully. Consequently, she instantly lost her footing and fell to the ground heavily. At that moment, she looked extremely pathetic.
- Over the past few years, Grace had learned a lot of things from her savior, including self-defense. I’m no longer the weak pushover I was seven years ago!
- “Let me warn you; even a housekeeper has to have professional ethics. Who doesn’t know that Miss Johnson is beautiful, generous, gentle, and virtuous? How could she do something as low as bribing the pâtissière to kidnap the Knight Family’s treasured daughter? Watch me; I’m going to teach you a lesson!” As she spoke, she bent down and grabbed Bethany’s hair. Then, she punched and kicked her, releasing all the hatred accumulated since before!
- “You lunatic! Lunatic!”
- “How dare you curse at me? From the way I see it, you’re a liar!” She showed no mercy whatsoever.
- “Ah! Let go of me!”
- “Let go of you? So that you can pretend to be Miss Johnson and deceive others?”
- “No, no; I won’t deceive others anymore.” For the sake of the Johnson Group, Bethany had no choice but to grit her teeth, lower herself, and beg for mercy. The Johnson Group’s business had been going downhill for the past few years. Therefore, she had to succeed in becoming Christopher’s wife through Molly if she wanted to continue living without any worries in the future.
- “Are you admitting to impersonating Miss Johnson?”
- She hurriedly nodded. “I admit to it; I admit to it! I shouldn’t have impersonated Miss Johnson; I shouldn’t have bribed you to get my revenge on the Knight Family. It’s all my fault, so let me go!”
- Looking at the bruises and swelling on Bethany’s face, the bleeding wound on her knees, and her expression as she begged for mercy, Grace decided not to make things any worse. “Okay. Since we’re both employees, I’ll let you off this time. If this happens again, I will report you to the police and let them deal with you.”
- After saying that, she let go and pushed Bethany away.
- Bethany whipped her head around and glared at her hatefully. “I’ll get back at you!”
- Then, she limped away in a pathetic state.
- “Any time,” Grace replied nonchalantly.
- Lifting her hand, she tidied her hair and pressed on the Knight Residence’s doorbell with a gentle expression.
- While she had been dealing with Bethany, she failed to notice Jake sitting in a white car parked not too far away. On the other hand, Jake was looking in this direction with great interest…
- Grace waited by the door for a while, then Mr. Reeves came to greet her and brought her inside.
- “Please make more cartoon-shaped cakes that Molly likes so much today. She was scolded by President Knight just now, so she’s quite emotional right now.”
- “Sure, I understand.”
- Inside the kitchen of the Knight Residence, all the ingredients she needed for baking had been prepared for her. Thus, she quickly finished preparing everything she needed to do.
- Meanwhile, she could intermittently hear Molly’s crying sounds coming from upstairs.
- Taking a look around her, she noticed that Mr. Reeves seemed to be supervising his subordinates as they tidied up the garden in the yard outside. Therefore, only she and Molly, who was on the second floor, were inside the villa at the moment. Hence, she took off her apron and tiptoed up to the second floor.
- The door to Molly’s room was slightly ajar. Through the gap in the doorway, she saw Molly sitting by the window and hugging a teddy bear while crying. “Bad Daddy; Stinky Daddy; Bad Daddy.”
- Her daughter’s aggrieved expression and resentful actions stabbed into her heart painfully. Thus, she pushed open the door and walked inside without any hesitation.
- “Molly, do you still remember me?” Grace cautiously asked as she walked over to Molly.
- Molly lifted her tear-filled little face and pointed at her. “Who allowed you in? Get out.”
