Chapter 2 A Text Gone Wrong
- In the early dawn, Amelia woke up. Asher lay beside her, still deep in slumber, his strong arm wrapped around her completely. His steady breath fell on her neck, tickling her slightly.
- Waves of numbness and pain surged between her legs, and as the last traces of intoxication faded away, Amelia's rationality gradually returned.
- What have I done?
- I actually slept with the CEO!
- Amelia's breath hitched instantly, and she carefully freed herself from Asher's embrace. Then, she quickly got out of bed, put on her clothes, gathered her belongings, and fled from Room 1501. She rushed to the hotel reception to book another room.
- Wondering what the hell happened last night, she checked her phone, Then, she realized with horror that she had never sent Ashlynn a message at all.
- Instead, she had sent Asher a message!
- A few years ago, during a middle school reunion, Amelia's class representative had created a WhatsApp group, encouraging everyone to exchange phone numbers. Amelia still vividly remembered that Asher had taken the initiative to add her. However, after they connected, he never said a word, and all she did was change his contact name.
- That led to her colossal mistake today.
- Amelia sat in her newly booked hotel room, calming herself for a while. Then, she took out her phone and left the WhatsApp group chat with her middle school classmates. She changed her WhatsApp name from Amelia to Lily and even replaced her profile picture with a photo of a girl she found online.
- That way, he won't have any idea who I am!
- Deleting Asher from her WhatsApp contact list seemed too deliberate. Besides, Room 1501 was booked by the company along with a block of other rooms, so there was little he could do to investigate her identity.
- After dealing with the crisis, she finally managed to cover herself with the blanket and fall asleep.
- The alarm clock rang early the next morning. That day, Amelia had to accompany her manager, Benjamin Coleman, to Ascenda Corporation to discuss the issue of additional funding.
- The planned net value of their exchangeable bond project had now fallen below the stop-loss line, and the other party demanded a margin call, threatening to liquidate the securities otherwise. The situation was urgent, so their investment department had the privilege of traveling to Wildefield on a private jet for a business trip.
- After freshening up, Amelia hurriedly grabbed her documents and rushed to meet her colleagues in the hotel lobby. Not long after, Ashlynn also came down, grumbling discontentedly, “Mr. Coleman was adamant that our company wouldn't be the party covering the margin call, but when I went to the trust company to retrieve the contract, his name was written right on the copy of the contract!”
- “Alright, Mr. Coleman is coming soon. Don't let him hear you.” Amelia pulled Ashlynn aside. Just then, she noticed a tall man exiting the elevator, surrounded by a crowd.
- It was Asher.
- He had already changed out of the bathrobe he wore last night and now wore a well-tailored black suit. His thick, striking eyebrows were slightly furrowed, while his lips were tightly pressed together. He appeared to be listening to the report from the secretary beside him, not sparing a single glance in their direction.
- Asher's aloofness was well-known in the business world. He always wore a tense, sharp expression on his handsome face, exuding an air of arrogance and nobility. He was a man of few words, and his oppressive aura could cause the surrounding temperature to plummet.
- Amelia tried hard to recall her memories, but the man in front of her seemed so diffrent from the person who had gently kissed her last night. She wondered if she had been hallucinating.
- "Mr. Fullerton is incredibly attractive. I would be overjoyed if I had the chance to sleep witn him fo just one!" Ashlynn didn't notice Amelia's discomfort and continued speaking, "Can you believe the stark difference in appearance between people with similar names? Asher? Ashlynn? Hey, Amelia, what are you daydreaming about?"
- Feeling Ashlynn's touch on her arm, Amelia snapped back to reality and stepped back, hoping to avoid being seen by Asher
- Unfortunately, just as he and a group of shareholders and secretaries were about to reach the exit, he suddenly stopped walking, halting not far from the two of them.
- He subtly lowered his gaze and quietly instructed his secretary, "Find out who stayed in Room 1501 last night."
- Upon hearing those numbers, Amelia felt as if her legs were weighed down by lead, making it impossible for her to move.
- Her mind went completely blank, and all she could hear was Ashlynn's excited and thrilled interjection .
- "1501? Mr. Fullerton, Amelia stayed in Room 1501 last night!"
