Chapter 7 Oh my God! Why!
- Jack brought in a large stack of manga and gestured to Amelia, saying, “Mrs. Carter, these are the items I selected based on Mr. Carter’s request. I hope you like them.”
- Amelia was taken aback.
- She looked at the manga and then at the cool-toned CEO office. The two seemed so mismatched.
- Ethan, with a hint of uncertainty, said, “I thought you might get bored, so I had these prepared. If you don’t like them...”
- “Wow!” Amelia's eyes lit up with excitement as she embraced Ethan. "You always manage to find exactly what I love. How do you do it?"
- Ethan smiled, replying, “I’m glad you like them.”
- Amelia removed her shoes, put on the bunny slippers, and walked around a bit. She then threw aside the slippers, lay on the sofa, covered herself with the blanket, and picked up the manga.
- It was manga!
- Her absolute favorite!
- Mister really understood her well!
- Ethan glanced at the cover and frowned. He took the manga from Amelia’s hands and said, “This one’s being taken away!”
- He then called the internal line, seething with anger, “Jack, you’re not getting a bonus this month!”
- Jack, in tears, clutched a handkerchief, realizing he had accidentally mixed in his own cherished manga.
- Mr. Carter must have noticed!
- Amelia laughed uncontrollably, rolling on the floor.
- She enjoyed her time in Ethan’s office, feeling completely comfortable, until it was time to leave for the day.
- Jack brought over the contract, fully signed and stamped, and said, “Mrs. Carter, the contract has been completed.”
- “Thank you!”
- Amelia, feeling a bit guilty, told Ethan, “Mister, Mr. Jack has worked really hard. Maybe we should overlook the issue with his bonus.”
- Jack gave Amelia a grateful look.
- Ethan gave Jack a brief glance and remarked, “You’ve made up for it this time.”
- Jack was thrilled. “Thank you, Mr. Carter! Thank you, Mrs. Carter!”
- Mr. Carter used to be so cold and uncompromising. But now that he was married, he seemed more compassionate and caring toward Mrs. Carter. A man who treated his wife well was truly a good man!
- Amelia decided to take the contract home and did not stay for dinner with Ethan. She declined his offer to drive her and took the bus instead.
- Sophia, who had been waiting outside Carter Group for hours, saw Amelia leaving but not being ejected. Instead, Sophia herself ended up being escorted away by security.
- Just as Amelia arrived home, Sophia sarcastically remarked, “Amelia, why are you only getting back now? Were you so busy cleaning that you didn’t even manage to meet the higher-ups?”
- Isabella and Lucas’s faces grew dark. They had hoped Amelia would at least try to meet someone from the Carter Group. Instead, she wasted time waiting around.
- Lucas’s expression hardened. “Amelia, you’ve really let us down.”
- Amelia took out the contract from her bag and said calmly, “I managed to secure the contract. Carter Group has agreed to collaborate with the Harper family.”
- “What? You actually got it?” Lucas, stunned, knocked over his cup.
- Ignoring the burn on his hand, he rushed over and carefully took the contract from Amelia.
- Sophia, in disbelief, exclaimed, “This can’t be real! You’re just a janitor—how could Carter Group’s top executives possibly negotiate a contract with you?”
- “It must be fake! You probably just printed it at a random print shop and are trying to trick Mom and Dad!”
- Isabella’s expression turned serious. “Amelia, if you’re bringing a fake contract to deceive us, I’ll kick you out of the house!”
- Lucas examined the contract with growing skepticism. Every term was in favor of the Harper family, with Carter Group giving numerous benefits without taking any advantage.
- Lucas’s face grew increasingly troubled.
- The prestigious Carter family, a top-tier family in Ashford, would never offer such generous terms.
- Even if they were willing to collaborate, they would retain all the advantages for themselves.
- If the contract were real, it would be a windfall for any leading company in Oceancliff!
- Slamming the table, Lucas roared, “Amelia, if this contract is fake, get out of here immediately!”
- Amelia was exhausted. It was clear why the Harper family was still a small-time player—Lucas lacked basic business sense!
- At that moment, the phone rang. Lucas answered angrily, “Hello! Who is this?”
- “This is James from Carter Group’s procurement department. I’m responsible for handling procurement with your Harper Group. Are you Mr. Lucas, the General Manager of Harper Group?”
- Lucas’s face brightened instantly. He responded eagerly, “Yes, I’m Lucas! Mr. James, I’m very excited about working with Carter Group!”
- Isabella and Sophia were shocked.
- Once Lucas hung up, Isabella asked quickly, “Is it true? Was that really Carter Group calling? Or did Amelia set this up as a trick?”
- Lucas, irritated, replied, “Do you think I’m foolish? After years in business, I know how to verify these things.”
- Lucas looked at Amelia with admiration and asked, “Amelia, how did you manage to achieve this?”
- Amelia replied nonchalantly, “I spoke directly to the executives at Carter Group about our interest in partnering with them, and they agreed.”
- Lucas chuckled with satisfaction. “Fantastic! It looks like the Harper family is quite esteemed! Amelia, you’ve done an excellent job for me!”
- Sophia was seething. Oh my God! Why! It turns out that the Carter Group is already inclined to work with the Harper family! Amelia just happens to be in the right place at the right time! If I were there, I would succeed as well. It’s maddening that I let such a golden opportunity slip away and handed it to Amelia!
- Sophia grabbed Lucas’s sleeve and said sweetly, “Dad, when I visited Carter Group with Mr. William, I met Mr. Jack. I talked to him about the Harper family, and he showed a lot of interest. I think that’s why Amelia was able to secure the contract so easily.”
