Chapter 6 Ghost Marriage Contract

  • When the woman in white said Ghost Suppressing Coffin, I distinctly saw my grandfather shudder violently.
  • He didn't answer her question but looked at her through narrowed eyes. His grip on the few long black nails in his hand tightened.
  • The woman in white extended a hand and gently caressed the black coffin. She then looked at him and asked softly, “Where did you get this Ghost Suppressing Coffin? And what exactly is the grudge between you and Ghost Hag?”
  • Seemingly because of the coffin, she became intrigued about my grandfather's past.
  • In truth, it wasn't just her as I, too, had started feeling curious about my grandfather's past.
  • My grandfather took a deep breath. Just as he was about to say something, a peculiar sound suddenly came from outside.
  • Bam! Bam! Bam!
  • It was low and somewhat hurried.
  • Immediately after, a petite figure appeared outside the door of the burial clothing shop.
  • It was a little girl dressed in a vibrant red outfit who appeared to be only about four or five years old. She held a small rattle drum in her hand, the source of the dull thuds earlier.
  • By then, it was already late at night. The appearance of such a young girl outside the shop at that hour was very peculiar.
  • The girl in red was beyond adorable, with ruby lips and pearly teeth. She resembled a porcelain doll.
  • Standing outside the shop, she watched us while blinking her wide eyes innocently, a picture of innocence.
  • But for some inexplicable reason, a chill inexplicably inundated me after I had laid eyes on her.
  • “It's been a while, old man!”
  • The young girl's voice was juvenile and melodic. Her gaze was fixed on my grandfather, a sweet smile on her face. She appeared very close to him.
  • My grandfather's expression at that moment had become incredibly intriguing, a mix of anxiety and apprehension. There was also a hint of helplessness, making it all rather complex.
  • He heaved a long sigh, muttering, “What a day! All sorts of hellions have shown up. We're in for it now...”
  • Shaking her rattle drum, the girl in red cheerfully made to step into the burial clothing shop, only to spot the woman in white standing beside the black coffin.
  • She shivered slightly, retracting the foot about to step into the shop before saying to the woman in white with a smile, “There's always a proper order to follow. Since you're here first, miss, I'll wait outside for a bit!”
  • Upon witnessing that scene, even a fool could tell that the girl in red harbored significant apprehension toward the woman in white.
  • The woman in white didn't pay any attention to the girl in red. She looked at my grandfather and murmured, “I must take Ghost Hag with me! The same goes for this coffin—”
  • “Okay!” My grandfather abruptly interrupted her, his expression a bit peculiar. Gone was his previous stubbornness, and he added in a low voice, “But you have to agree to one condition!”
  • Just a moment ago, he appeared to be adamantly against it. But in the blink of an eye, he agreed. That twist of events left me a little bit disoriented for a moment.
  • Gazing at my grandfather calmly, the woman in white asked softly, “What's the condition?”
  • My grandfather didn't reply to that. Instead, he shifted his gaze to the girl in red standing outside the door.
  • The girl in red frowned deeply, the rattle drum in her hand spinning even faster. Her juvenile voice took on a slightly darker tone as she warned, “Old man, you're not planning to use someone else to do your dirty work, are you? If you dare touch me, think about the consequences first!”
  • Without waiting for my grandfather to respond, the girl in red turned to the woman in white and said smilingly, “Miss, I don't care what you're after. While that Ghost Suppressing Coffin is a treasure, it's not my target. All I want is something this old man has on his person. You wouldn't make things difficult for me, would you?”
  • The woman in white cast a glance at her, her expression calm, offering no response.
  • My grandfather harrumphed, his expression dark as he swept his gaze over the girl in red. Then, he said to the woman in white, “My condition is simple. Let's take this upstairs.”
  • As he spoke, he grabbed hold of me and headed upstairs.
  • Without hesitation, the woman in white followed us upstairs, leaving the girl in red standing alone outside the door.
  • Once we arrived at my grandfather's room upstairs, he took out a tiny wooden box from under his bed. Opening it, he retrieved a brush, cinnabar, and some yellowed paper, among other things.
  • He ground the cinnabar. At the same time, he bit his fingertip and quickly mixed his blood into the cinnabar. After dipping the brush into the cinnabar mixed with blood, he wrote swiftly on the yellowed paper.
  • I glanced at it, only to notice that he was writing none other than my birth chart.
  • Why is he doing this right now?
  • When feeling puzzled inwardly, I subtly stole a glance at the woman in white a near distance away.
  • Undeniably, the allure of such a woman to a man was immense. Even though I knew she wasn't human, I couldn't help but feel attracted to her.
  • Even now, I still don't know her name... D*mn it! How am I still in the mood to think about such a thing at a time like this? I must have been besotted by a ghost for real!
  • I quickly corralled my thoughts, keeping my gaze straight ahead, not daring to look in her direction again.
  • At that moment, my grandfather had already finished writing on the paper. Besides my birth chart, there was also that of another unknown person.
  • “Zayne, give me your hand!” my grandfather commanded me in a deep voice, putting down the brush.
  • I was startled slightly. Then, I stretched my hand out.
  • A blade appeared in my grandfather's hand, and he made a tiny cut on my finger. A few drops of blood trickled out, landing on the paper.
  • Subsequently, he turned his gaze to the woman in white.
  • The woman in white seemingly understood his intentions. In a calm voice, she said, “A ghost marriage contract isn't beneficial for him. Weren't you against it previously?”
  • At her words, my heart lurched, and I looked at my grandfather in disbelief.
  • My grandfather didn't look at me. Instead, he said to the woman in white solemnly, “Zayne is the only child of the Meyer family. I absolutely cannot allow anything to happen to him. Ghost Hag has ill intentions, so I naturally dare not accept the ghost marriage contract she left behind. This contract doesn't bind you much. I just hope you can protect Zayne for a while until I've dealt with some matters.”
  • The woman in white gently shook her head, murmuring, “I don't want to get involved in your affairs. I—”
  • Interrupting her, my grandfather interjected with an intense gaze, “Miss, Ghost Suppressing Coffin has a remarkable effect of spirit-nurturing, but this one is different! Without my guidance, this coffin would have no spirit-nurturing effect. Instead, it would exterminate ghosts. Otherwise, I wouldn't have sealed Ghost Hag in it!”
  • Before the woman in white could respond to that, he continued, “Protect my grandson for three months. After three months, the contract will be dissolved. Ghost Suppressing Coffin will be yours, and I will help you with it personally. How does that sound?”
  • The woman in white contemplated for a moment. Reaching out and taking the piece of paper from my grandfather, she glanced at me before saying to my grandfather, “If you fail to fulfill your promise after three months, I will kill him with my own hands!”
