Chapter 38 Protection

  • Ava pulled into her apartment’s parking lot, the eerie sensation of being watched still lingering in the back of her mind. She turned off the ignition, letting the silence settle around her. The dim lights of the parking lot flickered, casting long shadows over the rows of parked cars. She glanced at her rearview mirror, half-expecting to see someone step out of the shadows.
  • But there was no one. Just her nerves playing tricks on her again.
  • “Get a grip, Ava,” she murmured, shaking her head as she stepped out of the car. She locked the door and walked briskly toward the building’s entrance, her heels clicking against the pavement.
