Chapter 4 The God Of Gambling
- With the fruit basket in hand, Li Hang entered the warehouse. Inside, a massive crowd gathered around the tables, gambling.
- Li Hang’s eyes swept across the crowd, heading straight towards the warehouse’s office.
- At this time, Black Panther was sitting inside the office, engaged in a phone call.
- On the other end, a deep male voice spoke, “Black Panther, I’ll give you another 200 thousand. You better ensure that Xu Haoran is tightly locked up. The next time I call would be the day he dies.”
- Black Panther crossed his legs and smirked, “Rest assured, Mr. Cui.”
- “That rascal, Xu Haoran, is now in my hands. Even if he grows wings, I’ll make sure that there’s no way that he could fly away!”
- Black Panther hung up and walked into another room.
- The room was in pitch darkness. Curled up in the corner, a young man with an unkempt, short hair could be seen, his face visibly swollen from being beaten blue and black.
- With a crooked smile, Black Panther nonchalantly whistled as he sauntered in front of Xu Haoran.
- “Rascal, I happen to have some free time. Why not we gamble another few rounds? I’ve heard that your sister is gorgeous. How about this? If you lose, you’ll have to call her over to spend a night with me?”
- “Pfft!” Glaring with his bloodshot eyes, Xu Haoran spat a mouthful of saliva at Black Panther’s legs.
- He growled through his clenched jaws, “Dream on!”
- Instantly, the indifferent smirk on Black Panther’s face vanished.
- He raised his foot and flung his merciless kicks onto Xu Haoran repeatedly.
- “Bam!”
- “Bam!”
- “Bam!”
- One after another, the blows only got heavier!
- Right at this moment, loud cries of pain had echoed from the other side of the door.
- Black Panther froze in his tracks upon hearing it.
- He immediately turned to see Li Hang entering with a fruit basket in hand.
- Several of his lackeys who were guarding the door had been collapsed onto the ground behind him. All of them were hugging their abdomens as they grimaced and whined in pain.
- Black Panther’s forehead creased, asking, “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
- Li Hang pointed at the man in the corner and replied, “I’m his brother-in-law.”
- He then lifted the fruit basket. “You said you were bored. Shall we gamble instead?”
- “If you win, I will stay here with these fruits. You can chop us with knives or skin us alive. That is entirely up to you. If you lose, he will leave with me.”
- Black Panther’s face darkened as he snorted coldly, “This rascal is worth 2 million now. What will you use as a bet?”
- “How much do you think that this trash is worth?”
- Li Hang’s eyes narrowed as he snapped his fingers.
- Immediately, a battered hooligan wobbled into the office, with both his palms covering his face.
- “Brother, this man, he… He won 3 million from us with this fruit basket as a bet.”
- “... !?!?!”
- Several minutes later.
- Xu Haoran walked out of the warehouse with Li Hang. His face had been overflowing with admiration for his life savior.
- “Brother-in-law, let me carry that basket for you. Are you tired? Let me give you a massage.”
- As Xu Haoran stared at Li Hang, his gaze lit up with sparkles of respect.
- Then, Li Hang fished out a piece of chocolate from the tin that was within his coat, popping it into his mouth.
- “Brother-in-law, this tin looks old! Is it limited-edition? Oh my, it’s an antique! Can I have one too?”
- Li Hang put the chocolate tin back into his pocket, rejecting him bluntly, “This is mine, so no.”
- “Heh, stingy!” Xu Haoran pouted.
- At this moment, a man was glaring at them menacingly from behind.
- “Brother Panther, are we really going to let them off? How are we going to explain this to Mr. Cui?”
- Feeling frustrated, Black Panther turned around, sweeping his feet over at a breakneck speed. “I don’t need the likes of you to remind me!”
- He then pointed his finger at Li Hang, howling from a distance, “Oi! Someday, I will make sure that you will pay for today!”
- Li Hang simply turned his head, meeting his gaze.
- Black Panther immediately felt intimidated by his domineering presence.
- Beads of cold sweat formed, chills running down his spine. Black Panther’s knees had buckled and he had fallen backwards, crumbling onto the ground.
- On the contrary, Li Hang had only uttered 3 words, each word cold as frost.
- “I’ll be waiting.”
- The blue sky had disappeared, giving way to a darkening orange-red wash.
- Liu Yufen was pacing back and forth outside the ward, staring at the end of the alley.
- “Why isn’t he back yet? Is… is he caught by Black Panther? That child looks gullible and silly... What if he gets beaten up?”
- Xu Xiaoyang sat on the wheelchair and sighed, “It’s all because I’m useless! If only I hadn’t been crippled... Argh!”
- Liu Yufen walked into the ward and stood behind her husband. She placed her hands on his shoulders in a comforting manner while she shook her head gently. “We’ll be fine. We can definitely get through this together.”
- A while later, Xu Haoran’s voice reverberated, “Mom, Sister! I’m back!”
- For a moment, Liu Yufen was dumbstruck. When she had turned her head, she had found that Xu Muqing had also jolted awake.
- “I… I think I heard your brother’s voice...?”
- Xu Muqing nodded. Just as she was about to speak, Xu Haoran burst into the ward.
- “Mom, do you have food? I think I’m going to die from starvation!”
- Immediately, Liu Yufen wrapped her arms tightly around her son.
- Her tears overflowed from her eyes, trickling down uncontrollably as she sobbed.
- “Mom… Mom, too tight! You are going to strangle me to death! Mom, you’ve got to hear this! Brother-in-law is amazing! With just one fruit basket, he won so much money from Black Panther! But, he’s also a little stingy. There are so many pieces of chocolate left in the tin, but he won’t even give me one.”
- “What tin?” Hearing this, Xu Muqing could not help but ask.
- Xu Haoran pointed at Li Hang’s pocket.
- Before he could continue, Li Hang threw Xu Haoran a fierce gaze.
- Instantly, a cold shiver ran down the latter’s spine.
- His took a rapid twist of expression and immediately burst into a happy chatter, changing the topic.
- “Brother-in-law, you must be hungry. Let’s go to the cafeteria for a meal!”
- Sparks of admiration had been burning strongly in his eyes.
- He was the perfect example of a mega fan!
- By the side, Xu Muqing’s eyes narrowed in puzzlement as she watched the duo.
- Then, Liu Yufen walked forward and clutched Li Hang’s hands within her own. “Child, thank you! Thank you so much! You single-handedly saved our whole family!”
- Before Li Hang could speak, Xu Haoran harped chirpily from the side, “Mom, why are you so formal with our Brother-in-law?”
- “Hm, that’s right, Mom. We are a family. There is no need for all these formalities.”
- ---
- With this, Li Hang had gained the recognition of his not-so-bright brother-in-law, Xu Haoran.
- His position as the son-in-law of the Xu Family was now about to be set in stone.
- Initially, they were going to the hospital’s cafeteria for a meal.
- However, before they had even headed down, there were a group of people carrying plates of food into their ward.
- “Oh my gosh! What a decadent spread!”
- Just as Xu Haoran admired the delicious array of food, he blurted out a question that had yet to cross the minds of Xu Xiaoyang and Liu Yufen, “Dad, is this the hospital’s VIP ward? I thought we were penniless. This type of room would easily cost a thousand per night, right?”
- At that moment, Xu Xiaoyang snapped out of his daze. Xu Muqing’s operation fees, hospitalization fee, and miscellaneous fees would all snowball into an astronomical amount.
- Then, Li Hang interjected, “Do not worry about the fees. I’ve paid them already.”
- Quickly, Xu Xiaoyang questioned, “Where did you get the money from?”
- Again, Xu Haoran interrupted before Li Hang could explain, “Right, how could I forget about this?! My Brother-in-law is the God of Gambling!”
- Xu Haoran draped his arms onto Li Hang’s shoulders and stared into his face with overflowing admiration.
- “Brother-in-law, my dad’s company is going bankrupt soon, and our family is running out of cash. Why not the two of us go and make some big bucks tomorrow?”
- “No! Your grandfather has taught you that we must never gamble. It’s our family rule. Do you understand me?” Xu Xiaoyang quickly put a stop to his son’s absurd thoughts.
- It was rare for Xu Xiaoyang to be so furious.
- Xu Haoran was taken aback by his father’s fury.
- In the meantime, Li Hang muttered softly, “I understand, dad. I will never do it again.”
- “Hmm.” Xu Xiaoyang nodded.
- Wait! That’s not right… Did I just acknowledge him as my son-in-law?
