Chapter 6 Touching Something I Was Not Supposed To

  • Vera's POV
  • We were now legally husband and wife, so it was only natural that we should live together. But if we move in together, would we share the same bed? And if so, could something more... intimate happen?
  • I was torn, but there was no one I could confide in about this. In both the Starfield Pack and the Moonlight Pack, I had no close friends. Without a wolf, I held no status within the pack.
  • Back at the magazine company, the managing editor asked me again, tentatively, if we could publish the photos we had taken of Alex.
  • During the interview, we had managed to capture a few shots of him. However, without his consent, the magazine didn't dare publish them.
  • The managing editor posed this question, hoping for a stroke of luck. After all, the CEO of Morgan Group was known for his enigma. The fact that he had agreed to the interview was already a pleasant surprise. No one dared to hope for permission to publish a photo.
  • To everyone's astonishment, Alex agreed without hesitation, sending the entire office into a frenzy of excitement.
  • “Wow! We got a photo of Morgan Group's CEO! It looks like our magazine is going to hit the jackpot this time!”
  • “Hurry, hurry, show us the picture of him already! I want to see if he's as handsome as Jennifer claims!”
  • Before, without Alex's consent, we hadn't dared to display the photos in the office. Now that we had his approval, the photos were quickly put on display.
  • Suddenly, the women in the office went into another frenzy.
  • “Wow! He's incredibly handsome! Jennifer, your description didn't even capture a tenth of how good-looking he is!”
  • “Exactly! With a face like that, none of the young heartthrobs or old-timers in the entertainment industry stand a chance!”
  • “Hey, but isn't it odd, the chair Mr. Sloan is sitting in? It looks like... a wheelchair?”
  • Finally, someone noticed the wheelchair under Alex, and the room fell silent.
  • “Yeah,” Jennifer blurted out, “Mr. Sloan is wheelchair-bound. But so what? He's rich and handsome, and even in a wheelchair, he's still a prince charming!”
  • The women around immediately agreed, but a few male colleagues, feeling a bit disgruntled, retorted with hints of jealousy. “So what if he's rich or handsome? Don't you know that eighty percent of men in wheelchairs are, well, incapacitated in that department?”
  • “Exactly! Didn't you mention he just got married? I'd say that newlywed wife of his is likely going to end up a widow.”
  • Cough, cough, cough!
  • Hearing those words, I choked on my water, breaking into a violent coughing fit. There was really no need to discuss such things, was there?
  • Over the next few days, the magazine was swamped with work on Alex's interview. Everyone was buzzing with an unprecedented level of enthusiasm, as if they were all supercharged.
  • After a grueling week, I felt completely exhausted, but I had no time to rest. After visiting my mother in the hospital, I started packing my belongings, preparing to move into Alex's house.
  • I was worried that if I delayed any longer, he might think I wasn't sincere. I didn't want to risk losing the medical benefits that came with our marriage.
  • Indeed, Alex's mansion was expansive, with a vintage charm in its decor. The household staff was minimal, just an elderly couple named Peter and Anne.
  • Peter helped me move my things into the master bedroom on the second floor. The room was decorated in a modern, minimalist style. When I opened the wardrobe, I noticed that half of it was filled with men's shirts, while the other half had been cleared out.
  • I quickly realized I'd be sharing a room with Alex.
  • But there was nothing wrong with that. I unpacked my things, filling up the empty half of the wardrobe.
  • Once everything was neatly arranged, night had already fallen, but Alex still hadn't returned.
  • After a simple meal of pasta that Anne had prepared, I went back to my room to take a bath. After washing up, I realized I had forgotten to grab a towel.
  • “Please, let Alex not be back yet!” I prayed as I cautiously opened the bathroom door, peeking out to check.
  • No one was there, so it seemed Alex hadn't returned yet.
  • Relieved, I dashed into the master bedroom with my wet body, searching through the closet for a bath towel. But for some reason, I just couldn't find one.
  • Suddenly, I heard a “crack” from behind.
  • Startled, I turned around to see Alex, seated in his wheelchair, slowly entering the room.
  • His face was filled with shock, clearly not expecting to come home to find a naked woman, provocatively displayed.
  • “Ah!”
  • I let out a sharp scream, bolting back toward the bathroom. Even though I hadn't awakened my wolf yet, my physical abilities surpassed those of an average human, and I trusted my speed. However, I didn't anticipate the slickness of the floor. My feet slipped out from under me, and I tumbled forward like a clown.
  • “Watch out!”
  • Alex wheeled over, trying to catch me. I ended up falling right onto his lap, completely exposed. I could feel my chest pressed tightly against his thigh, with the thin fabric of his dress pants doing nothing to conceal the sensation.
  • My entire body burned with embarrassment. I wished I could instantly transform and escape, but I couldn't—I hadn't awakened my wolf yet.
  • Covering as much as I could, I looked up at him, mortified. “I-I'm sorry—”
  • I didn't get to finish my sentence because I noticed a change in Alex's expression.
  • He looked at me intently, his gaze deep and unreadable.
  • I wasn't a child; I understood what his look implied.
  • At that moment, I felt like I was going to explode. I couldn't stand being there any longer. I quickly got up, but as my hand pressed against Alex's leg, I hesitated. The words I'd heard from my colleagues earlier that day flashed through my mind.
  • I swear, as long as Alex and I were both willing, our intimate life would be nothing short of fulfilling.
