Chapter 4 Are You Single

  • Vera's POV
  • This was pure madness! At this point, if he told me he was the Alpha King's grandson, I would have believed him!
  • And if you were wondering why I didn't believe he was the Alpha King's son, it was because the Alpha King's son had been dead for a long time. Only two grandsons remained. The older one already had a family and children. The younger one supposedly went through some incident a decade ago and had become quite enigmatic. He never appeared at the pack's major events, and no one had seen his true face.
  • Oh my, he's as mysterious as Alex! No one knows he's the CEO of Morgan Group!
  • Of course, these were just my thoughts. The Alpha King's family had powerful genes; their descendants would never end up in a wheelchair, let alone marry a random woman off the street.
  • In reality, no CEO worth billions would do something like that!
  • “You're from Glamour Magazine, huh? Please, have a seat.”
  • Alex gave us a casual smile. I sat down on the couch with Jennifer and the others, studying him closely. His expression remained indifferent. He didn't give me a second glance, as if we didn't know each other at all.
  • His demeanor actually put me at ease. I told myself that maybe he just looked like my newlywed husband, Alex.
  • “Um... Mr. Sloan, you're so mysterious that none of us even know your first name.” Jennifer's face flushed as she nervously asked, “Would you mind sharing your name with us?”
  • “Alex,” the man before me said curtly, the word slipping past his thin lips, shattering my last illusion.
  • Alex.
  • It really was Alex.
  • They shared the same name and surname, looked identical, and even both used wheelchairs!
  • As hard as it was to believe, I had no choice but to accept it. The billionaire standing before me was indeed my newly-wedded husband.
  • But how did he manage to do it?
  • In any pack, life was never easy for a wolf with disabilities, unless they had powerful backing. But everyone knew that Morgan Group's CEO had built his empire from scratch.
  • It was only now that I realized, I didn't know my new husband at all.
  • “Ah!” A sharp pain in my thigh jolted me back to reality—Bella had pinched me hard. Meeting her reproachful gaze, I realized that today's interview was supposed to be conducted by me, while Jennifer and Bella were just taking notes.
  • Quickly setting aside my tangled thoughts, I adopted a professional demeanor and began asking, “Mr. Sloan, may I ask if you're from Sparaville?”
  • “I suppose you can say that,” he replied.
  • Unlike my inner turmoil, Alex remained calm throughout. True to his reputation as a werewolf CEO, he kept his emotions well hidden. After a brief, sarcastic remark to myself, I dared not let my mind wander again. I asked the questions I had prepared, one by one.
  • The interview went smoothly. Despite his aloof demeanor, Alex was very cooperative, completely dispelling the rumors that he was unapproachable.
  • I gradually found myself getting into the flow of the interview, almost forgetting that the man sitting across from me was actually my newlywed husband. But then, as my eyes fell on the next question, I suddenly choked up, plunging the office into silence.
  • “Vera, what are you doing?” Jennifer nudged me.
  • I gave an apologetic smile. “I'm sorry, Mr. Sloan, if this question might be a bit personal, but I believe many of our female readers would be quite interested. May I ask... if you are single?”
  • The moment the question left my lips, I wanted to bite off my own tongue.
  • Wasn't that obvious? I knew full well whether or not Alex was single. But this was a question we had agreed upon beforehand, so I couldn't just skip it.
  • After asking, I looked at Alex nervously. I wasn't sure if it was my imagination, but for a moment, it seemed like a hint of amusement flashed across his normally impassive eyes.
  • The hint of a smile was so brief, I almost thought I imagined it.
  • “This question...” Alex began slowly, his tone inscrutable, “I wonder, what do you think?”
  • What did I think? What could I possibly say!
  • Though I was speechless inside, I forced a smile and said, “I'm guessing... a man as exceptional as you must already be married, haha...”
