• Four days after all that chaos, Valen started school. I couldn’t stop smiling as I watched him bouncing with excitement in front of the mirror, his grin as wide as I’d ever seen. He kept rambling about his school supplies and every little thing I’d bought him like they were treasures.
• “Mommy, I’m going to be so popular at school! Just wait and see,” he declared, glowing with pride. I bent down, adjusting the collar on his crisp, white shirt and smoothing out the navy blue blazer bearing Brookstone Academy’s crest.
