- I have never been so distracted in my life. So many questions popping up in my head at the same time. I don’t even know her name.
- I pulled Michael to the side when we moved outside the workshop.
- “Who is that” I asked Michael nodding towards the lady that took my breath away.
- “Hasiat Tanner. The new Boss lady of Wallow’s ranch. Gorgeous isn’t she!” Michael answered me giving me a face that says ‘I know you are affected by her beauty'. Of course I am.
- “ You mean the nurse?” I said shocked, remembering our conversation just the night before.
- “ That’s her.” I felt a brief discomfort in my stomach. It appears my stomach was finding it hard to digest the information as well.
- So I had spent five fucking years dreaming about this girl only to find out she’s been screwing a dead man for his property. Just great!
- I let my eyes follows her direction once again and I saw her holding hands with the guy that was defending her. Jealousy rose in me. I felt the desire to walk over to them and snatch her hand from him, holding her to myself. It wasn't meant to happen this way. I had envision the day we will eventually meet. Never thought it would happen this way.
- “Who is the dude with her?” I asked Michael.
- “Samuel. Just some ranch help, I see him in town sometimes with late Mr. Wallow” Michael surged his shoulder. The patrol car came in bringing some officers to the scene followed by another Jeep.
- I watched as a short man jumped down from the Jeep, screaming wealth and power escorted by a bouncer. I immediately knew that he is the town’s Mayor according to Michael's description. I wonder what brought him here. I walked up to him to introduce myself but he already knew who I was.
- All the time my mind kept wondering about the beautiful lady and the guy across the parking lot. I gave Michael instruction to interrogate the two of them immediately. I would have loved to do it myself so as to get to know her but it's not just the time yet.
- “ Captain Ralph, it’s an honor to finally meet you” The Mayor said.
- “ The honor is mine Mayor” We shook hands. I wasn’t sure what next to say as my mind is pretty occupied by the damsel across the lot. I watched as Michael interrogates them.
- “ I must confess I'm pretty impress with your status being the youngest Captain in the history of the town. We are so glad to have you Captain." The mayor said bring my attention back to him. I put my hands in my pants pocket thinking of how to respond to his complement.
- "I'm deeply flattered. Thank you" The Mayor appears like a good man but my instinct tells me otherwise. I know a disception when I see one and he looks like one. He's trying to get me attached so I can be at his Mercy when duty calls.
- "I heard you served in military." Wow the man did a background check on me. That's something.
- " Yes I did. Three years in Vietnam and two in Tibet" I took a step towards him in an intimidating manner. He smiled lazily feeling intimidated. Good.
- "By the way, my wife, Olivia is throwing a dinner tomorrow's evening to officially welcome you to our town. She asked me to invite you personally.” He added to ease off the building tension.
- “ That’ so nice of Mrs Peterson. Please extend my greetings, and I will gladly honor her with my presence.” He smiles to my response.
- I wasn’t expecting the dinner invitation at all given the current situation at hand but I accepted it out of respect to his status. I made mention of Ben’s current situation knowing he might know the man very well, but he just waved it off.
- " Ben is a strong man, I'm sure he will be out of the hospital before you know it." He sounds very confident about it. It's like it's regular thing to have an heart attack which was odd.
- I excused myself and took another peep across the lot at my damsel and I found the Samuel guy holding her face in his hand. I felt my blood boiling. I restrained myself from running over to them and fighting for her. Our eyes locked for a moment before I took control of myself and angrily walked over to my men.
- “ What the hell took you guys so long to get here?” I scolded the patrol guys looking for something to pour my anger on.
- “ Apologies Captain, We were at the other side of town when the news dropped” One of the guys said.
- I nodded in understanding, giving the guys some instructions and asking Michael to join me on the ride back to the station.
- I walked to my ride, pulled the fore door opened, jumped in and slammed it shut. I needed to get away from her as far as possible or I will go crazy with their display of affection. Michael joined in and I zoomed off.
- I enforce my anger on the steering, handing and squeezing it with force that I'm sure it will break at any moment if I should continue. Michael started to speak about something I couldn’t comprehend but he eventually shut his mouth when he realized I wasn’t listening. The way I galloped through the rough road made Michael to speak up again.
- “ Are you alright man?, You seems... preoccupied.” he said holding the arm rest, supporting himself from the effect of the the gallop.
- “ I’m good Mike” I answered. Surprising myself with the sudden name abbreviation . Michael doesn’t seem to mind.
- “ You seems pretty carried away since we got to the workshop. Did something happened?” I breath out, regretting how obviously transparent I had appeared back at the workshop. Not a good thing for my first official appearance in the town. ‘What she does to me'.
- “ Does it have anything to do with the Boss lady? Do you know her from somewhere?” Smart guy. He figured me out.
- I gave him an eyes that says he should shut up and he surged his shoulder.
- “ Alright. I’m shutting my mouth”. He said.
- By this time my nerves were calm and I drove smoothly to the station. I threw the matter bothering me to the back of my mind and I planned some activities in my head. I told Michael to see to my apartment and he said he will gladly do so. My luggage should be arriving at any point in time and I need the apartment ready. More so, I can’t be Michael's guest for too long.
- On getting to the Station, I went straight to the sergeant office. It’s been 24 good hours and I haven’t meet the son of a bitch. I pushed the door open surprising him and I saw him with his legs stretched on his desk. His name tag read Andrew, so I knew I meet my target. He jumped up upon sighting me.
- He’s around Michael’s height but less weight and he’s definitely few years older than me. He stood at alert and saluted me then I put him at ease. I asked him why I haven’t seen him in the last 24 hours of my resumption at station and why he has neglected his duty. He gave some illogical excuses which I threw back at him. I warned him never to let it repeat itself.
- “ Apologies Captain. I promise to be better in future” He said. I could see an hint of displeased and rudeness on his face but I ignored. Too early for disciplinary actions. If only he knows what I can do to bend him.
