Chapter 9 Marriage

  • Willa was consumed by her anger and refused to listen to reason.
  • Left with no other choice, Clarissa stepped aside and called Tyler.
  • As soon as he answered, she unleashed her pent-up fury.
  • "Tyler, what on earth is wrong with you? Why did you go back there to steal? Why did you cripple Charlie for life?" she raged.
  • "I always knew you were useless, but I thought you were at least kind.
  • "I can't believe that as soon as we got divorced, your true colors showed. I must have been blind to marry you."
  • She took a deep breath before continuing, "I'm ordering you right now! Come to Oxbourne Hospital and apologize to Charlie!"
  • Before she could finish, Charlie's voice chimed in from the background.
  • "I don't just want an apology! He has to kneel and serve me at the hospital every day until I'm discharged!"
  • On the other end of the line, Tyler was seething.
  • Stealing?
  • A forced apology?
  • And now kneeling to serve?
  • He felt like he was trapped in some absurd nightmare.
  • "Ms. Preston, you're a CEO, yet you seem incapable of distinguishing right from wrong. Do you honestly believe everything your brother and mother say?
  • "Do their words even contain a shred of truth?" he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
  • "You're demanding an apology without even understanding what happened. Have you even bothered to find out the truth?"
  • Clarissa frowned. Knowing Tyler, there was definitely more to the story.
  • But the relentless pressure from Charlie and Willa left her no time to think clearly.
  • "Tyler, you've changed," she said, her voice heavy with disappointment. "Ever since the divorce, you've been nothing but excuses.
  • "I don't care what the reasons are; the fact remains that Charlie is seriously injured because of you.
  • "Regardless of who's at fault, don't you think you should at least apologize?"
  • Haha ...
  • Regardless of who's at fault?
  • Tyler couldn't help but laugh bitterly.
  • "So, you're advocating for victim protection now?
  • "If you're that foolish, then there's nothing more to say."
  • Click!
  • He hung up the phone.
  • The only sound Clarissa could hear was the monotonous beeping of the disconnected line.
  • Bang!
  • Clarissa, enraged, smashed her phone into pieces.
  • "B*stard!
  • "Shameless!
  • "Tr*sh!
  • "Who does he think he is, hanging up on me?!"
  • Willa's face flushed with anger. She seized the opportunity to add fuel to the fire.
  • "Here is it; now you understand, right? Tyler's a tyrant now, and he doesn't care about us at all."
  • "Mom, shut up!" Clarissa snapped, cutting her off.
  • "Take care of Charlie while he heals. As for Tyler, I won't let him get away with this."
  • Meanwhile ...
  • After hanging up, Tyler felt a surge of frustration.
  • He wanted nothing more to do with the Prestons, but they were like persistent flies, constantly buzzing around him.
  • Just then, his phone rang. It was Ronald Middleton, the head of the Middleton family.
  • "Mr. Glisson, has my daughter done something to upset you?"
  • Tyler was taken aback.
  • It was clear that Ronald was calling because of Mona's promise.
  • "Mr. Middleton, you're overthinking things. Your daughter is exceptional, a brilliant businesswoman. I have no complaints."
  • Ronald was delighted by this response and immediately pressed further.
  • "Since Mr. Glisson has no objections, why don't you and my daughter get married as soon as possible?"
  • Half an hour later ...
  • A fleet of luxury cars surrounded the City Hall at Twinspire Avenue.
  • Holding the marriage certificate in his hand, Tyler couldn't help but feel a sense of absurdity.
  • Divorced and remarried on the same day. Who else could claim such an experience?
  • Mona still wore her usual cold, aloof expression.
  • However, there was a hint of complexity in her eyes.
  • Was my single life really over just like that?
  • And in such a bizarre way?
  • However, when she looked at Tyler, an indescribable smile crept onto her face.
  • This man, full of mystery, was finally mine.
  • ...
  • Back at the Middleton residence ...
  • Mona stood proudly in front of the assembled family.
  • "Let me formally introduce him.
  • "This is my new husband. His name is Tyler Glisson.
  • "We just got married."
  • As soon as she finished speaking, an excited voice rang out from the crowd.
  • "Dr. Glisson! You're finally back. Our whole family has been waiting for you!
  • "From now on, you're my brother-in-law, and I'm your little brother-in-law.
  • "I'll have your back in all of Oxbourne!"
  • Brian pounded his chest confidently.
  • If it weren't for the audience, he would've probably wanted to swear brotherhood with Tyler on the spot.
  • Tyler remained calm, completely unfazed by the display.
  • He glanced at Brian and smirked slightly.
  • "Thanks for the offer, Brian. In return, I'll make sure to whip up some strength-enhancing pills for you later."
  • Brian's face froze instantly.
  • With all eyes on him, he wished the ground would swallow him whole.
  • His father, Magnus Middleton, pushed him aside and scolded him.
  • "You embarrassing fool. Get to the back!"
  • Then, with a smile on his face, he turned to Tyler, his eyes full of sincerity.
  • "Dr. Glisson, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Brian's father, Magnus Middleton, and Mona's uncle."
