Chapter 6 Leave

  • Cyrus' brows were furrowed as he held the bullet in his hand while sitting in the ambulance.
  • It looked like a run-of-the-mill bullet. Alas, the strange symbols engraved upon it made it clear that it was anything but. So, it was obvious that the bullet had been tampered with before its subsequent use.
  • Dr. Harper, who was sitting beside him all this time, smiled and inquired courteously, "Sir, do you mind telling me about your educational background? Your surgical skills are truly amazing. Can you tell me your name? If it's not too much, I'd love to have your address as well. I'm sure Mr. Cohen will want to personally thank you when he wakes up."
  • "Oh." Cyrus slid the bullet into his pocket and replied tonelessly, "I'm new to Rodon. Frankly, I'm still looking for a place to live." He patted his pocket lightly before continuing, "I didn't do any of this for praise. I was just passing by and couldn't help but intervene when I saw how abysmal your skills were."
  • Then, he clicked his tongue. "You don't have to take my words to heart, but since I've already helped you out, I might as well go all the way. So, you might be interested to know that the assassin is quite a proficient necromancer. The bullets he used have been specially modified. Hence, even if that old man survives the gunshot, he will still need follow-up treatment to be fully cured of his ailment."
  • When the other doctors and nurses heard Cyrus' words, they all shot each other astonished looks and started whispering fervently, "Who is this young man? He's so arrogant! He actually said that Dr. Harper's skills are not up to par!"
  • "Dr. Harper hails from a renowned family of surgeons and is currently Rodon's top surgeon. How could he even say such a thing without his tongue falling out of his mouth?"
  • "That's not all. He even claims that there's necromancy at play. What a joke! Regardless, the patient's condition is stable now. So, all we have to do is ensure the victim remains stable as he recuperates. Considering the hospital's proficiency, I'm sure the patient will be up and running the very next day."
  • Meanwhile, Archie had started flushing in humiliation.
  • Even though the other medical staff couldn't understand just how skilled Cyrus was, Archie couldn't lie to himself about it!
  • He knew Cyrus had every right to act so nonchalant as his skills were indeed inferior to Cyrus'!
  • Thus, Archie quickly snapped out of it and berated his subordinates, "Shut up! Show some respect to this gentleman."
  • Subsequently, he hastily turned to Cyrus and said placatingly, "Sir, I have a house that is beautifully decorated. It's pretty much brand new because it has not been on the market. It'll be an honor to have you."
  • "Okay," answered Cyrus as he felt bullets in his pocket.
  • Archie breathed a sigh of relief, fearing that Cyrus would suddenly disappear without a trace.
  • Nonetheless, it seemed that his worries were over as Cyrus would be staying in his house!
  • Of course, Archie made sure to save Cyrus' contact information before giving Cyrus a key to that house.
  • Archie and several experts rushed to treat the gunshot wound the minute they arrived at the hospital.
  • On the other hand, Cyrus took Archie's key and headed toward his new yet temporary home in Rodon.
  • Fortunately, Azure Residence was quite close to the hospital.
  • When he arrived on the 23rd floor, he followed the signs to unit 2301. Then, he whisked out the key, opened the door, and walked in without further ado.
  • The room was rather large. Judging from the number of doors, there were four bedrooms and two living rooms. Archie wasn't lying about the decor as the unit was tastefully decorated.
  • Yet, something was bothering him. Oddly enough, there were fresh fruits on the table.
  • "Hmm?" Cyrus frowned in confusion. He stared at the fruits on the table in bewilderment before taking a better look at his surroundings. It was then that he noticed the clothes hanging on the balcony. It was obvious that this place wasn't as empty as Archie had claimed!
  • Could this be Archie's home? Just as he was playing the guessing game, the bedroom door opened with a click.
  • Soon, a fair-skinned woman of about 5'4 in height sauntered out languidly. She was wearing nothing but a bathrobe as she ran her long, wet hair through her towel.
  • She was only wearing cartoon-themed underwear. She had fair skin, a slender figure, and delicate features.
  • Although he felt a little guilty ogling the woman, it didn't stop him from admiring a beautiful girl.
  • The woman hummed a tune as she walked toward the living room.
  • After a few steps, she suddenly came to a halt and stared blankly at Cyrus.
  • "Ah!" Shannon screamed, hastily covering herself with a towel as she looked at Cyrus in horror.
  • Cyrus frowned and impatiently barked, "Shut up! You're so noisy!"
  • "Y-You…" Shannon staggered away.
  • He demanded, "Who are you, anyway? What's your relationship with Archie?"
  • Shannon was startled by his sheer impudence. Nonetheless, she quickly understood the situation as she gritted her teeth and growled angrily, "I rented this house from Archie's wife yesterday! And who are you?"
  • "Oh, what a coincidence. I'm also a tenant."
  • Cyrus strolled toward the bedroom. "There are two master bedrooms, one for each of us. Although I prefer not to share with others, I'll just have to make do for now. I'll move out in a few days."
  • Cyrus entered an empty master bedroom and closed the door behind him just like that.
  • Shannon stood there as she blinked at the shut door in shock. Then, her face turned red with anger as her mind replayed Cyrus' disdainful tone.
  • I can't take t-this humiliation lying down! He's the one who came in without announcing his presence and acted like a Peeping Tom!
  • Where was his apology? The audacity of that guy to act so superior after doing such a disrespectful deed!
  • Although she was upset, she knew that he was also a victim of circumstances. So, Shannon went back to her room, quickly changed her clothes through gritted teeth, picked up her phone, and called Archie's wife.
  • "Landlady, what's happening here? I've clearly rented the place. I paid the deposit and everything! I distinctly remember signing a contract! So, why is there another tenant moving in without my permission?" Shannon hissed in ire.
  • Alas, Archie's wife had no idea what was going on as well. Archie hadn't exactly informed her of his decision. So, she apologized and said, "Shannon, please give me a moment. I'll have to ask my husband about this. This is probably just a misunderstanding."
  • "Fine! You need to make that shameless guy move out immediately!" Shannon hung up the phone in a huff.
  • Sadly, that phone call didn't make her anger abate even the slightest. Instead, she only felt another surge of anger as she recalled the earlier incident.
  • Eventually, her emotions triumphed over her rationality as she ground her teeth and knocked on Cyrus' door.
  • "Open the door! Get your *ss out here, you jerk!" Shannon yelled at the top of her lungs. At this point, any sense of logic had flown out the window. "I rented this place first! This entire house! Whatever contract you signed is invalid! Besides, I can sue you for sexual harassment! Compensate me, or else! Open the door right now, or I'll call the police!"
  • Cyrus was currently relaxing on the nice bed in his temporary abode. So, Shannon's increasingly shrill voice felt as though a flock of geese were honking at him at lightspeed.
  • This woman's lung capacity should be one of the world's wonders! She didn't even breathe for a single second during her tirade!
  • Cyrus abruptly opened the door and snarled at her, "For the love of God, shut up!"
  • Shannon, who had transformed into a rampaging bull, dragged Cyrus into the living room and continued ranting, "You jerk, you were in the wrong! How dare you act as though you're innocent? Did you not see the doorbell on your way in? Do you know what it's for? You're supposed to use it before entering a place that isn't your house! On that note, did you not see I wasn't ready for company? How could you gawk at me and brush past me as though nothing had happened? You will compensate me for your shamelessness! Then, you'd best move out today!"
  • He sat on the couch as he rested his palm against his forehead in resignation.
  • Just then, Shannon's phone rang.
  • She shot a glance at it before snorting and shaking the phone, saying gleefully, "See that? It's the landlady calling. I'm sure she's here to force you out! Just you wait!"
  • Shannon put the call on speakerphone and said, "Landlady, have you figured it out? When are you going to make that jerk move out?!"
  • The woman on the other end smiled apologetically and expressed her regret. "I'm sorry Shannon, I just asked my husband about this. He said that Mr. Cyrus is his honored guest. So, he can have the house. Therefore... I'm afraid you'll be the one leaving. Don't worry, Shannon. I will compensate you double for the breach of contract. I'll even chip in for your moving expenses and so on. I'll double it!"
  • Shannon was utterly dumbstruck. After a beat, her face flushed with anger as she shrieked, "H-How could you do this?!"
  • "I'm sorry. You have no idea how sorry I am, Shannon! I really am sorry! Unfortunately, I'm on the night shift, and I can't leave my post for now. Still, I will come to apologize to you in person tomorrow. Talk to you soon." The woman on the other end hung up the phone.
  • Shannon clenched her jaw, her fair and slender hands trembling with anger.
  • Cyrus stood up, patting Shannon's shoulder.
  • "Although I dislike you very much, especially after that ordeal you made me suffer… I'm not an unreasonable person. You have my permission to stay here for one night. Of course, there is a condition to this favor I'm doing you. Please, by no means, knock on my door during your stay here!"
