Chapter 6 Homeless And Unemployed

  • “How could you say that to your own daughter?” I asked my Dad.
  • I couldn't believe that I was hearing those words from him. Like I am not part of this family. How could he be so ruthless towards me? Ever since Emma and I were a child, I have always neglected. Never once have they become so proud of me even after I got a lot of achievements.
  • “Just accept my decision, Selina. And go back to work!”
  • “Dad…”
  • “Just go, Selina! I don’t want to hear your complaints! Do your best and I might see your capabilities!”
  • Even though I wanted to try arguing with him, to prove that I am right, that I am more capable of that position, I just stopped. Because I know that no matter what I say, he would never get on my side, ever!
  • I dropped my shoulders and turned my back to him. Instead, I returned to my seat as soon as I entered the office. Thankfully, they are done celebrating for Emma and Gerald. I can’t take seeing them celebrating for a success that was never worked hard for. Emma didn’t do anything for the company, she was always there sitting pretty, buying everything that she wanted. While Gerald who sided with Emma to get his desired position, they both sucked!
  • As I was busy working on my PC, I heard my colleagues talking behind me. At first, I didn’t care about what they were talking about. From now on, I still have to work harder than what I am doing right now. However…
  • “She's done everything she could just to get promoted! Always exhausted with the business trips but in the end, it was still her sister who got promoted!” Rona laughed. “Why couldn’t she just accept the fact that she was nothing against her sister?”
  • “I know right? She’s so desperate! Can’t believe her!”
  • “Desperate but lacks the ability to please her parents.”
  • “Hey, she might hear us!”
  • “Even though she can hear us, and told her parents, they won’t believe her. She’s a walking liar to them!”
  • “What the heck?!” I stood up because of anger. “Why the hell do you have to mock me?”
  • They stopped talking when I faced them. But they were still giggling. Like I was a big joke to them. I am the company owner’s daughter but they didn’t even see me like that. Far from how they treat Emma! What is wrong with them?
  • “I helped out all of you and now you're mocking me?” I scoffed. “You wouldn't be in that position if I didn’t help you out!”
  • Tears run down my cheeks. My chest was so heavy because of the news I heard from my Dad, and these dimwits didn’t even have remorse!
  • Because I was desperate to escape this feeling, I grabbed my bag and then went out of the office. While wiping my tears away, I took my phone out of my pocket and then called Dad.
  • “Dad, I need to resign from this company! I don’t need a resignation letter, just process it!” I shouted before I ended the call.
  • My chest was so heavy, I was crying on my way back to Harold’s villa. All my life, I dedicated myself to my family. In college, I took business management just to please my Mom and Dad even though it wasn’t what I really wanted. I worked my ass off to improve our company and now they were doing this to me?
  • How could they do this despite all the sacrifices I have done for the company?
  • I parked my car in the parking area and then went inside the house. But as soon as I went in, I saw Susie. She was throwing up all over the place!
  • “Susie!”
  • I forgot all my worries about myself. Without hesitation, I quickly took her and then got tissue to wipe off her mouth. She looked sick!
  • “What happened to you, Susie? Hmm?” I asked worriedly. Even her breathing is not normal, and her temperature. Does she have a fever?
  • Now I was crying because of what happened to Susie. It was my first time handling a dog and I didn’t know why she was vomiting like this.
  • After I wiped out her mouth, that's when the door opened and Harold came inside.
  • “Selina? What happened?” he asked. Then roamed his eyes around the house. I saw worry in his eyes.
  • “When I got home, I saw her throwing up. I didn’t know what happened—”
  • “Damn it! Damn!” Harold cursed and rushed towards us to get Susie from me.
  • The way he took Susie was harsh which startled me. He looked so mad, like I did something that he didn’t like.
  • “What did you do to her?!”
  • I blinked. “I didn’t do anything to her… when I got home, I just found her like this.”
  • “So you’re not taking care of her properly?” he asked, glaring at me.
  • “Harold. I have a job too!” I yelled.
  • “I don’t fucking care! I told you to take care of her! If something bad happens to Susie! You’re the one I should blame!”
  • “What the heck? I was worried too! I didn't do anything to her!”
  • I bursted out in tears. All of the emotions I had suddenly exploded. I clenched my fists as I cried harder. Is this why he married me? To be a nanny to his dog? It’s not like I don’t like to take care of Susie but… why is he reacting this way?
  • “If it was all my fault, then I’ll just leave here.”
  • “Leave if you want! I don’t care!” he shouted.
  • I cried even more. I can't believe he didn't even let me explain. It's not my fault that Susie is sick. I didn't want to either, and I was honestly worried about her too.
  • If this is how he would treat me, then I would have better leave this house. What a shame!
  • After I got my stuff out of the room, they’re gone. I took a deep breath and then pulled out my luggage.
  • “Now I’m homeless and unemployed…”
