Chapter 10 In Danger Too
- "He killed the person I care about the most," said Marvin, his eyes piercing.
- "Who?" asked Stella. "Your lover?"
- Stella and Mia glanced at Marvin, their expressions serious, wondering who he was referring to.
- "Yes, Lily... she's my lover whom I love very much," Marvin replied. "I just found out that the accident that happened to Lily eight months ago wasn't purely an accident, but it was due to Fanny's interference. That damn woman managed to make it look like an accident, and she did it very cleanly."
- "Is she so deeply in love with you, sir, that she would take someone's life?" asked Stella.
- "That's not love! It's obsession!" Marvin retorted, locking eyes with Stella. "So, I need your help, Stella. Help me bring down Fanny for killing Lily, and I'll assist you in reclaiming your property rights and even dealing with Damian."
- "Wait, does that mean Fanny killed Lily out of jealousy, wanting to possess you entirely?" Mia finally spoke up. "Fanny eliminated Lily because she saw her as a threat to her love for you. Lily was merely a lover until she was removed. So, what about my sister, who will soon be your wife?"
- "Mia's right. Does that mean I'll be in danger too? Fanny might come after me once she knows I'm your wife, sir. She'll surely be furious and devise ways to eliminate me," Stella said, her expression grave.
- "Take it easy, I've thought it all through," Marvin replied. "After we get married, accompany me wherever I go, stay by my side. I'm certain Fanny won't dare to touch you if you're with me."
- "There's no way I can stay with you for twenty-four hours a day, sir. I have my own things to do, too," said Stella.
- "That's right!" added Mia. "Even though I'm still very upset with my sister, I'm not ready to see her dead body!"
- "Are you wishing me dead?" asked Stella unhappily.
- "I didn't mean to wish you dead. But your life would be in danger," Mia said.
- "That's it! No need to argue, I've calculated everything. Stella will stay safe with me," said Marvin, then looked at Stella seriously. "You might indeed be in danger once Fanny finds out that you're my wife, Stella, but I've prepared some bodyguards for you. I already know Fanny's crimes, how could I not think of your safety."
- "Bodyguard? Wow..." Mia shook her head in amazement. "So after becoming your wife, she'll be a mistress with a bodyguard? Tsk, tsk, tsk... seriously, I'm jealous!"
- "Bodyguards are human too. They can make mistakes," Stella said, pursing her lips in annoyance.
- "Yeah," Mia replied. "Well... be patient," she said, stroking Stella's back in an attempt to calm her down.
- "I'll make sure you're safe, trust me," Marvin assured.
- "Yes, I'll try to trust you, Mr. Marvin Dameer," Stella said, narrowing her eyes.
- "That's it, there's nothing more to ask, right? Then it's settled. Tomorrow I'll start the initial plan, which is the wedding. I'll call you later," Marvin said to Stella. "Now, you guys go home and rest."
- Stella exhaled roughly as she got up from her seat.
- "My people are waiting downstairs. Go back to your place for a while to pack up all your clothes, then you'll be escorted to the apartment."
- Stella frowned. "Apartment, sir?"
- Marvin nodded. "Yes, you'll be my wife soon. How could I let my wife and her sister live in a rented house?"
- Mia immediately smiled. "Thank you, sir. You're the best."
- "You're welcome," Marvin replied. "Don't forget to let me know if your deal with Damian goes through."
- Mia nodded. "I will."
- ***
- "Let me know immediately if there's anything," Stella said, leading Mia to the apartment door.
- They had just arrived at the apartment when Mia suddenly received a call from Damian. He was asking to meet with her.
- "Yeah, I'll definitely call you later. I'll go first."
- Stella nodded.
- Mia turned around and walked towards the elevator, heading to the ground floor, where she soon entered the online taxi she had previously ordered.
- The taxi stopped in front of the company. Mia got out of the car and looked at the building.
- Dixon Company.
- The company her father had built, but was now under the control of a man who had no blood ties to her. The news of the transfer had devastated her father, ultimately leading to his passing.
- Knock, knock!
- Mia knocked on the door of the room that used to be her father's office. She hardly ever knocked when she entered, but now, she had to. How annoying!
- "Come in," someone said from inside.
- Mia pushed open the door and walked in to see a man sitting with his feet propped up on the table. The sight of his face made Mia feel nauseous.
- "Why did you call me?" Mia asked as she sat down on a chair.
- Damian lowered his legs, rested his hands on the table, and looked at Mia with narrowed eyes.
- "What is your relationship with Mr. Marvin?" Damian asked bluntly.
- Mia, who had been leaning back, immediately sat up straight, her expression shifting to one of shock as she looked at Damian.
- "Do you know Mr. Marvin?" Mia asked instead of answering.
- "In the business world, almost everyone knows Mr. Marvin. It's impossible for people not to know him. But that's not the point now. Answer my question, what is the relationship between you and him? Are you guys dating?"
- "What? Dating?" Mia shifted her gaze to another direction and smirked, then looked back at Damian. "If I were involved with him, I couldn't possibly negotiate with you!"
- "So? Who's Mr. Marvin's lover, if not you!"
- "Stella! They're related," Mia replied.
- "What?" Damian gave Mia a shocked look.
- "I just found out today too," Mia replied in a casual tone, trying to keep Damian from growing suspicious.
- "No way! Stella and I just broke up, how could she turn her back on me so quickly!"
- Mia smirked. "Why not? Anything's possible, maybe because you inflicted such a deep wound on my sister! Took all the treasures and also killed my parents."
- "I didn't kill your parents!" Damian interrupted.
- "But indirectly because of you, Damian!"
- "That's enough! Forget it. Let's get back to the main topic." Damian said sarcastically.
- Mia gritted her teeth in annoyance. "Without even giving it time, it's obvious Stella will grow to hate you and move on. You know what? The cure for a broken heart is to fall in love again," she continued. "Her hatred outweighs her love. Her affection for you is buried under resentment and disappointment, making it easier for her to fall for someone else. I've met Mr. Marvin once, and it turns out he's nearly perfect! Who wouldn't want him?"
- Damian's hands clenched into fists. "So why did you finally make a deal with me, huh? Are you guys up to something with me?" he asked through gritted teeth.
- Mia swallowed nervously.
