Chapter 2 Getting Even
- "Honey, I'm home!". I called out to my mom, and she came rushing into the living room, having a very sweet smile on her face, with my brother trailing behind her.
- "Bree... " Asher called out, running towards me, and I lifted him, spinning him around, and he let out a series of giggles.
- I dropped him on the ground, still holding onto him so he wouldn't fall until he was stable. He ran back to the couch, watching his favorite SpongeBob cartoon.
- I walked to where my mom stood, smiling at our sibling bond. I bent, pecking her cheek.
- "How was school today". She asked.
- "as it has always been, school." I answered, one of my eyebrows raised, trying to make a statement.
- "Still the same then; nothing fun happened."
- "No, nothing fun happened, mom."
- "Well, if you say so, why don't you go freshen up while I prepare dinner? I still can't decide on what to cook yet."
- "What about spaghetti sauce and meatballs?" I suggested it, and my mouth watered at the thought of it.
- "That's a nice idea; I left some cupcakes for you. You can take it up now".
- Thanks, mom." I walked to the kitchen and found a plate of chocolate cupcakes. I took out a tray, placing the plate on it, then opened the fridge to bring out my favorite orange juice, pouring some out in a glass cup before putting it back in the fridge.
- I gently walked up to my room with my backpack strapped safely to my back and the tray secure in my arms. Once I got to my room, I dropped the tray on the table and my bag on the floor before racing to the bathroom for a shower. I came out later, fresh and clean, wearing just an oversize t-shirt that stopped above my knees.
- After scuffing down my snacks, I plopped on my bed with my phone out as I scrolled through Instagram, watching funny videos for some minutes, and didn't realize when I fell asleep.
- I felt something vibrate under me; my eyes were half closed while I used my hand to find the source of the vibration. Finding my phone, I peeled my eyes open, looking at the caller ID, and I answered.
- "I know I'm amazing and fun, but we saw each other like an hour ago." I answered groggily, feeling sleep-deprived.
- "Hi Maddie, how are you? I'm fine. Thank you, Bree. Thank you for this wonderful greeting. How are you too?" I got a sarcastic reply.
- I rolled my eyes at this. Drama queen "Hey Maddie".
- "Hey Bree, now that we have said our pleasantries, I wanted to ask you something in school today, but it slipped my mind.".
- Her word caught my attention, and I quipped, wanting to know more.
- "What..."
- "Daniel is throwing a party on Friday; let's go together."
- "No, you know I don't do parties, and you usually go with Sofie. So why didn't you ask her?"
- Maddie let out a sigh before replying, "I did, but she has an important family dinner on Friday. Chris is coming home." I smacked my forehead with my hand, recalling Sofie telling me about her elder brother Chris coming home this week after being away for a year due to school.
- "My answer still remains no, and you know my mom won't allow me since she doesn't go against my dad," I told her.
- After what happened to my dad's sister when they were young, my dad hates the idea of any of us going out late at night, especially to parties.
- "You can tell your mom we are having a sleepover at my place, please, Bree," Maddie pleaded.
- "Fine, but on one condition". I let out a devilish smirk, knowing she had no option but to do as I said if she wanted me to go with her on Friday.
- "What is it". She asked sceptical, like I was going to ask her to do something drastic and crazy.
- Maybe I was.
- "Help me get even with Hayden for this morning." Maddie groaned, wanting nothing to do between Hayden and I.
- "Must I.."
- "Yeah, I plan on getting back at him, and I know just the way. I just need a little bit of your help."
- " fine... See you tomorrow," she said, hanging up the call.
- When the call ended, I couldn't stop the wide smile that grazed my face, waiting for tomorrow so that I could execute my plan.
- "Bree dinner is ready," my mom shouted. I walked down the stairs to the dining room, humming to myself.
- My mom looked at me weirdly, saying, "What’s got you humming?"
- "Nothing, just excited for tomorrow."
- ♤♤♤♤
- I had just finished applying mascara to my lashes when I heard the sound of a honk and knew Maddie was waiting. I ran down the stairs with my backpack.
- "Bye mom, bye Asher. See you after school." and walked out the door. I hopped in the back seat of the car because Sofie was on the passenger side.
- "hey angels". I greeted them. I know it's cheesy, but that's how I refer to them. Sometimes.
- "So I heard from Maddie about your plan to get back to Hayden for yesterday," Sofie said.
- "Yeah, I plan on getting even ". A smirk graced my face.
- "Don't you think the rift between the two of you has gone on for far too long". Maddie quipped.
- "As much as I know how right Maddie is, count me in on your plan.". Sofie spoke again.
- Maddie rolled her eyes at this, causing both Sofie and I to burst out laughing.
- I knew I could always count on Sofie; she had always been my partner in crime, while Maddie was the only one out of us three. She is always trying to talk us out of anything she deems bad. She is like the mother hen.
