Chapter 13 There’s No Need to Be So Brash
- Chloe was in her dorm room; she was fully focused on packing some orders when the caretaker of the dorms pushed her door open and entered suddenly. She jolted upright in shock before stuffing the receipts in her pocket.
- She frantically stole a glance at her cupboard; thank goodness it was closed, or else the caretaker lady would have seen the gadgets and stocks which were stored inside.
- “Hello, Miss. Is there anything I can do for you?” Chloe put on a sweet smile and asked pretentiously.
- The lady was well aware of what Chloe was doing in her room—she was running an online business. Luckily, the lady was willing to turn a blind eye as long as the stocks and items were kept hidden from her view. After all, she understood the financial hardship of a student, and it technically wasn’t against university rules to run a business.
- Even so, the caretaker kept a stern face which made her look like the entire world owed her a huge sum of money—she looked awfully cocky.
- She gave Chloe a piercing stare and said bossily, “You’re Chloe Tillman, aren’t you?”
- Chloe’s heart dropped. Did the caretaker come here just to see her?
- She nodded rather reluctantly.
- The caretaker lady then said without delay, “Pack up your things now. The school has informed me that you’ll be staying in the faculty residence for the next two months since you’ll be working as a teaching assistant. Hurry! Don’t let me see you here for the time being!”
- At that moment, Chloe felt thunder and lightning above her head. Her eyes widened in disbelief and she couldn’t comprehend what she had just heard.
- Pointing a finger at herself, she exclaimed, “Did you just say I’ll be moving into the faculty residence, Miss?!”
- The caretaker lady was getting impatient, and she glared obnoxiously at Chloe’s surprised and dumbfounded face. She didn’t seem eager to answer her unnecessary question, so she nodded pompously and snapped, “Get out of here!”
- She left in a jiffy after that, leaving Chloe in an utter mess all alone!
- F*ck! No one ever mentioned that assistants had to stay with their professors! Wasn’t she just a teaching assistant? Why did it feel like she was a full-time nanny instead?!
- “Hey, since when did you become a teaching assistant, Chloe?”
- Seeing that the caretaker had left, Fiona came over and nudged her arm curiously.
- Chloe’s mind was cluttered and she was in a daze. She didn’t have time to cater to Fiona’s curiosity—she wanted to know why herself!
- After being stunned for a few seconds, Chloe rushed out of her room with her phone clutched in her hand. She headed to a secluded spot and was about to furiously make a call, but before she could, her finger stopped mid-air as she realized that she didn’t seem to have that damned Morgan’s number!
- “What the hell!” Chloe cursed, feeling utterly frustrated.
- Her chest rose and fell with rapid breaths, and she was disheartened.
- Having no other choice but to storm back into her dorm room, she retrieved a notebook from her bag before leaving in a hurry again to the same secluded spot. Then, she flipped through the pages to find a phone number and dialed it.
- Feeling agitated from the wait, Chloe paced around frantically. She nibbled nervously on her lower lip so much that it turned pale.
- Pick up… Please pick up the call…
- “Hello, how are you? It’s the Dean’s office.”
- Finally, the call went through.
- After explaining herself, the secretary transferred her call to the chancellor’s direct line. Howard greeted her formally on the phone.
- “It’s Chloe Tillman, Mr. Pearson.”
- “Oh, it’s you, Chloe. Is anything the matter?” The chancellor sounded friendlier after realizing that she was the caller.
- “Mr. Pearson, I received a notice to move out of my dorms to the faculty residence. Why is that so? Aren’t I a mere teaching assistant? Why do I have to live with him?”
- Chloe was horribly bummed out at the moment, so her manners had gone out of the window.
- “Oh, about that. You see, Chloe—Mr. Dixon is an honored guest of the school. Due to his status, he might not be used to the food catered in the cafeteria and other things as such, so we’d like you to move there to take care of his appetite, his living environment, and so on.”
- “Am I his nanny?” Chloe argued coldly.
- The chancellor didn’t seem to expect her to interrogate him so directly while abandoning the respect a student should’ve had for a teacher.
- “Uh, this is a great opportunity for you, Chloe. It’ll also be beneficial for your future, so the school will definitely reward you sufficiently if you do well over the next two months.”
- He hung up immediately after.
- “Hey! Hey! Hey!” Chloe shouted into the receiver wide-eyed, but the line had already gone silent.
- As she put away her phone dejectedly, she felt as if her head was about to blow off! She was extremely uncomfortable with the fact that the school had arranged for her to do something so outrageous.
- She had a feeling that she wasn’t a teaching assistant, but a plaything that had been offered to Morgan by the school.
- Damn it!
- Just what were the excuses he had given earlier—taking care of his appetite? Tidying up his place? Doesn’t he have his own hands and legs? Can’t he get his own food when he’s hungry? Can’t he just hire housekeeping services to clean his place?
- The chancellor’s argument was filled with flaws!
- Chloe stood by the window as she tried to soothe the blazing frustration within her in hopes of regaining her composure. Stay calm, Chloe. Stay calm…
- She just had to take care of a person—it wasn’t such a difficult task…
- Yeah, it’s not anything difficult… As if! In fact, this was a f*cking tedious task that could greatly affect her business!
- “Go to hell! Go to hell, Morgan! You piece of sh*t!!”
- She vented her anger in imagination as she cursed wildly, giving him a violent lashing inside her head. When he was finally covered in cuts and begging for mercy, only then did she feel a bit better.
- Putting on an elegant and composed smile, she turned and slowly headed back to her dorm room.
- Chloe grudgingly packed up her things before asking for them to be transported to the faculty residence. Once she arrived, she carried her luggage up the stairs. F*ck! What a lunatic he is for choosing to stay on the top floor at a place like this!
- After many rounds of labor, she moved all of her things to the door at last; she was absolutely exhausted.
- Even though she was drained as she leaned against her luggage bag, she was still mumbling weakly and furiously cursing out a certain lunatic!
- “What are you doing?”
- A man’s voice suddenly came from the top of her luggage. Her jelly-like limbs couldn’t react in time and she fell on her butt with a crash. A horrible pain ran up her spine!
- “F*ck! Are you a ghost? You walk without a sound!” she snapped, loudly expressing her dissatisfaction before getting up slowly as she rubbed the sides of her aching butt.
- Morgan’s lean and tall figure was standing before her, staring down with a sarcastic look on his face as she suffered the miserable fall. He was quite amused by her grimace which made her look like a raging little monster.
- “What are you looking at? How ungentlemanly you are; can’t you see I’m having trouble getting up?!” Chloe was terribly annoyed with his behavior, and her tone was aggressive. “Ouch…”
- The next second, a shadow seemed to flash past her; before she could react, she was being swept off her feet. The sudden take-off from the ground caught her off guard and she instinctively put her hands around the man’s neck.
- With a surprised turn of her head, she locked eyes with him and immediately noticed a look of tease playing in his eyes. “My gentlemanliness varies from person to person.”
- Chloe stiffened. At the same time, her mind seemed to be thinking in slow-motion; when she finally understood his words, she was already plopped onto a couch in the apartment.
- What did that b*stard mean? Does he mean that I’m unworthy of his gentlemanliness?
- My *ss!
- She was about to throw in a word of displeasure when she realized that he was already carrying in her luggage from the outside which consisted of a few boxes.
- “Hey, be careful with those. All my prized possessions are in there!”
- Just then, Morgan recalled the ‘treasures’ which she was holding during the times that they had met in the past, and he instantly knew what she was referring to as her ‘prized possessions’.
- “Keep up with that attitude and I’ll be sure to throw out all your treasures! Alternatively… I could use them all on you before tossing them out!”
- Chloe’s eyes widened as she shot him a glare that questioned his cruelty. However, when her eyes met his serious and unsmiling ones, she started to panic a little.
- Looking back at the way she had snapped at him earlier along with all of her impolite remarks, she was indeed being a bit too much; her heart sped up nervously…
- “There’s no need to be so brash, is there…” Chloe muttered with a slight fear in her voice. For the safety of her prized possessions, she decided to behave.
