- “Thank you,” he said with a smile, or rather, a wide grin as he took the tray from her.
- Lisa though read more to it than that. She read more to every action of his now, especially after he made that shocking confession to her a few hours ago. The biggest problem was not the confession itself, but her inability to respond. When he had first told her, she had not known what to say. That was how shocked she was. As a result, he had done all the talking which of course gave him the confidence to keep smiling at her. If she had scolded him, he would have known that she did not appreciate such a confession and he would not be smiling at her now. But how could she have scolded him? Words had failed her back then and they still failed her now.

She had volunteered to do the cooking in the small get-together his parents had organized to celebrate their wedding anniversary. When he approached her in their backyard as she was heading to the kitchen, she had thought he wanted to ask the time or some other harmless question, but instead, he had taken her aside and boldly, but not rudely, confessed to her that he had been dreaming about having a sexual relationship with her for the last 3 years - the exact duration of the time she had spent living in the compound next to his parents’.
