Chapter 10 Shut up And watch

  • In the grand hall of the main house, aside from Caden, Jack, Marie, and Shaun were all present in the main house's grand hall.
  • As soon as Whitney walked in, her eyes met Shaun's.
  • In a heartbeat, she looked away. Her expression was cold and detached.
  • This action sparked a flash of irritation in Shaun's eyes, but with the whole family around, he stayed silent, letting out an almost inaudible scoff from his nose.
  • Bianca's eyes lit up the moment she saw them.
  • Her face visibly lit up with joy and visible excitement shining through.
  • Yay! It's the pretty lady and the boys!
  • Her gaze was so intense that it was difficult for the trio to ignore.
  • Whitney pressed her lips together, coldly turning her face away.
  • She couldn't bring herself to smile at this girl as effortlessly as she had the first time they met.
  • Skylar and Andy also quietly averted their eyes.
  • They both adored the little girl, but ... sigh!
  • Bianca's smile froze on her face.
  • Her big eyes darted between the three of them. Slowly, the light in them faded.
  • Why are they avoiding me? Do they not like me anymore?
  • When this thought crossed her mind, she slumped like a disappointed bunny, her ears dropping in sadness.
  • A gentle hand landed softly on her head, stroking it tenderly.
  • Bianca looked up to see her father's comforting gaze. She bit her lip and lowered her head again.
  • Shaun's heart ached at the sight. When he looked up, his eyes were sharp, sending a piercing glare in Whitney's direction.
  • Whitney didn't acknowledge him at all. Her expression was calm as she greeted Caden.
  • "Caden, I'm here. Sorry to keep you waiting."
  • Caden set down his cup and waved at her with a warm smile.
  • "Not at all, dear. How's your stay in Southward House? Did you sleep well?"
  • Whitney grunted in response and said, "It's fine and quite comfortable."
  • "That's good. I've arranged for a few reliable servants to help out around the house. If you need anything, just ask, and they'll take care of it."
  • "Thank you, Caden."
  • Whitney replied in her usual calm tone, then went straight to the point.
  • "I'm here today to treat you. If there's no issue, shall we begin?"
  • Caden had no objections. "Of course."
  • Marie, however, couldn't hold back and attempted to stop them.
  • "Caden, are you seriously going to let her treat you? You're too trusting. This can't be right."
  • Caden shot her with a sharp look, his authority unquestionable.
  • "When I say it's fine, it's fine!"
  • Marie clamped her mouth shut, her expression turning sour.
  • Jack chimed in to back her up. He said, "Dad, Marie's just worried about your health, after all."
  • Before he could finish, Caden cut him off impatiently.
  • "I decide what happens with my own health. If you keep nagging, I'll throw you both out!"
  • The room instantly fell into an uncomfortable silence, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
  • Whitney didn't spare a glance at the couple. Once the family was done speaking, she calmly addressed Caden.
  • "Caden, although I had reviewed your health before returning, I still need to assess your current condition to proceed with treatment. I'll need to conduct a full-body check-up before confirming the final treatment plan."
  • Caden said, "I figured you'd need my latest results. I had them done ahead of time. Let's go downstairs and talk."
  • With that, the old man stood up. Leaning on his cane, he made his way to the underground medical room.
  • The Marshalls, with their immense wealth, spared no expense in any aspect of life.
  • Not only had they hired a renowned medical team for personal care, but they also built a state-of-the-art medical facility within the main house.
  • The underground level was as large as the floor above, clean and modern. Those rooms gave off a futuristic feel.
  • Here, several rooms served different medical purposes, equipped with every tool imaginable, even including an emergency room.
  • Whitney followed Caden into the examination room. Just as she was about to greet the people inside, she noticed that the rest of the Marshalls had followed them in.
  • Her brows furrowed as she turned to ask, "Do you all have some business here?"
  • Marie was already dissatisfied with her attitude. At that remark, she glared at her and criticized with obvious hostility.
  • "Of course, we're not at ease leaving Caden alone with you. Who knows if you really have the skills you claim?"
  • Whitney didn't hold back, shooting her with a cold gaze.
  • "Mr. Marshall has already reviewed my credentials. He knew about my background. If he has no objection, why are you in such a hurry to question it?"
  • Marie clearly didn't trust her. She argued, "How do we know your credentials are real? This could all be fabricated. These days, quacks are everywhere."
  • Whitney raised an eyebrow, suddenly letting out a cold laugh. She rebuked, "Oh? So are you questioning me or your son's ability to judge people? Do you think he's been fooled by me?"
  • "You witch!"
  • "Or maybe your constant opposition and lack of cooperation is because you have some ulterior motive?"
  • Marie's face flushed bright red with anger at being called out.
  • Whitney gave her no chance to retaliate.
  • "Look, I don't really care. If you still doubt me, you should just shut up and watch."
  • Marie was livid, her temper boiling over. She opened her mouth to yell, "Whitney, you!"
  • "Enough!"
  • Caden's voice cut through sharply, his face stern as he shot Marie a glare.
  • "What's with all the bickering? Are you so eager to give me a heart attack and shorten my life?"
  • Marie's heart sink at the accusation. She immediately toned it down and said, "Caden, I'm sorry, and that's not what I meant."
  • Caden scoffed and kicked them out in irritation.
  • He snapped, "Everyone out. Wait outside, because none of you are any help here!"
  • At his words, the Marshalls reluctantly left the room.
  • "Nini, don't mind her. She's got a difficult personality. Just don't take it to heart."
  • Caden's expression softened as he offered a kind smile, trying to reassure her.
  • Whitney remained indifferent, clearly unbothered by the earlier exchange.
  • At this moment, the man who had been waiting in the examination room stepped forward and introduced himself.
  • "Ms. Jones, nice to meet you. I'm the attending physician for Mr. Caden. You can call me Dr. Hampton."
  • "Nice to meet you, Dr. Hampton. Could you hand me Mr. Caden's health report, please?"
  • Daniel Hampton immediately handed her the file. Whitney immediately started to skim through it.
  • Daniel explained, "Mr. Caden's health is quite well maintained considering his age. However, overwork in his younger years left him frail, leading to weakness in his body. A few years back, he was in a car accident that caused severe leg fractures. Although the bones healed, it left him with a chronic condition. When it rains, the pain becomes unbearable. Recently, he's also experienced numbness in his lower body. Scans show that nerves were damaged in the accident, which has worsened over time, which is why the numbness is occurring. Unfortunately, nerve damage of this severity is nearly impossible to cure."
  • Whitney closed the file and looked up. She asked, "Why would you claim it can't be treated? With his condition, he can absolutely recover."
  • She spoke with such confidence that Daniel's expression became frozen.
  • As an expert in the medical field, being handpicked by the Marshalls was a testament to his capability.
  • With his years of experience and the respect he commanded in the industry, he had long grown accustomed to a certain level of pride.
  • When Caden brought in another doctor, he was already a bit dissatisfied.
  • After all, it meant that he and his team might lose such a well-paying job.
  • He couldn't help but feel publicly undermined after hearing Whitney speak with such confidence.
  • His expression shifted through a range of emotions, and when he spoke again, his tone was harsher.
  • "Perhaps I didn't explain it clearly before. The damage to Mr. Caden's nerves is complete and irreparable.
  • In other words, not even a miracle could help.
  • Whitney didn't miss the undertone.
  • She raised her brow. Her voice soft but full of confidence, as she said, "Just because you can't cure him doesn't mean I can't."
