Chapter 11 I've Already Experienced That Man

  • In the medical room, three people stood with varied expressions.
  • Daniel clenched his teeth. He was ready to retort, but with Caden present, he restrained himself from being too confrontational.
  • Unable to release his frustration, his expression changed several times before he forced out a stiff comment, "Dr. Jones, you're young, but you sure are bold!"
  • Whitney smiled lightly, pretending not to catch the sarcasm in his tone.
  • "Thank you for the compliment. Only those with ability can afford to speak confidently."
  • Daniel's forehead throbbed with rage, and he found himself speechless.
  • The tension in the room was palpable, with the air feeling thick as if a storm was about to break.
  • Just then, Caden cleared his throat. He also found Whitney's skill extraordinary.
  • "Nini, do you really think my leg can be healed?"
  • Whitney replied solemnly, "Based on your medical report, I believe it is possible."
  • Caden broke into a smile, the lines around his eyes softening with relief.
  • He exclaimed. "I knew it! I knew bringing you back was the right decision. Nini, you're my lucky star!"
  • "Caden, you flatter me. It's still too soon to say."
  • "Nonsense, it's not too soon at all. As long as you're here, I'm at ease."
  • Caden had complete faith in Whitney, trusting her wholeheartedly.
  • Meanwhile, Daniel's face twitched. His lips quivered and he finally commented coldly, "Well, since that's the case, I'll have to see Dr. Jones's skills for myself."
  • Whitney gave him an indifferent glance and her tone cool, "Be my guest."
  • When Daniel retreated to the side, Whitney refocused her attention.
  • "Caden, let's begin. Please lie down."
  • Caden placed his cane aside and obediently reclined on the medical bed.
  • Whitney washed and sterilized her hands. She quickly ran through the treatment plan in her mind.
  • Several people in the hallway watched through a large glass window, observing her every move.
  • Marie, especially, kept her eyes fixed on Whitney with a look of skepticism, clearly waiting to see what kind of miracle this woman could perform.
  • To her surprise, Whitney ignored all the medical equipment in the room and instead opened a small, finely carved box she had brought with her.
  • Marie scoffed, "Why isn't she starting the treatment? What's that she's holding?"
  • Jack squinted and answered, "It's a set of silver needles."
  • Whitney poured out the silver needles, varying in length, onto a tray and carefully sterilized each one.
  • Marie quickly caught on.
  • "Wait! She's not seriously going to treat Caden with needles, is she? What a joke!"
  • Her voice was filled with doubt and disdain.
  • "In this day and age, we rely on modern medicines. That woman has no idea what she's doing!"
  • Jack frowned, and he was clearly uneasy.
  • Marie couldn't stand it any longer. She said, "This won't do; we need to stop her. You can't just stick needles wherever you want!"
  • She turned to storm into the room, but two little figures stood side by side, arms crossed, blocking the doorway like miniature guardians.
  • "You can't go in. Mommy's treating a patient, and you can't disturb her!"
  • Marie snapped, "Move aside!"
  • Skylar didn't budge. His face was stern, and he scoffed coldly.
  • "No! Mommy's really good at this. Her therapy is amazing. If she says she can heal him, she will!"
  • Andy raised his chin confidently and appeared imposing.
  • "Just because you don't understand, you should educate yourself. Modern medicine is great, but holistic medicine are just as powerful. It's because you underestimate them that Caden still hasn't recovered!"
  • Marie was stunned by the children's defiance, her face flushing with anger.
  • "Is that how you talk to your elders? Where's your manners?"
  • Skylar gave her a cold stare and rebuked, "Our manners are just fine, thank you. No need for your concern."
  • Andy chimed in, "Yeah, at least we're not criticizing others and denying their abilities."
  • The two kids were sharp with their words and surprisingly good at attacking Marie's soft spot.
  • "We're just trying to help. Educate you and broaden your horizons."
  • Marie's face turned red with fury. "You—"
  • Just as she was about to lash out, Shaun stepped in, holding her back.
  • "Enough. Grandpa is undergoing treatment. We need to keep quiet."
  • Marie looked at him in surprise and asked, "Shaun, you actually trust that woman?"
  • Shaun's expression showed a flicker of impatience as his gaze shifted to Whitney, standing with her back to the window.
  • "If conventional modern treatments haven't worked, maybe it's time to try something different. We should give it a try."
  • With Shaun siding with Whitney, Marie had no choice but to back down, albeit reluctantly.
  • "Fine! Let's see just how skilled she really is!"
  • Her complexion was grim, and she shot the kids one more furious glare. However, they stood their ground and returned her gaze with no fear.
  • Shaun raised an eyebrow and cast a few more glances at the boys.
  • Small as they were, they certainly weren't lacking in courage.
  • Surprisingly, he found himself not minding it. In fact, he found their bravery quite endearing.
  • ...
  • Back in the room, Whitney was unaware of the little drama playing out in the hallway.
  • She carefully reviewed Caden's medical report once more before beginning to insert the needles into the acupoints on his leg.
  • Soon, all the needles were in place.
  • "Caden, you need to relax. You might feel sleepy, but don't worry. Just sleep if you need to."
  • Caden lay still and nodded slightly. He said, "Alright."
  • Ten minutes later, he drifted off into a sleep.
  • Daniel finally saw his chance to mock Whitney.
  • "Dr. Jones, you don't really think a few needles will have him walking again, do you?"
  • Whitney shot him a sideways glance but didn't reply.
  • Daniel, having gained no reaction, fell silent with a scowl.
  • As time slowly passed, Whitney remained focused and closely monitored Caden's condition.
  • Midway through the treatment, Whitney suddenly noticed something was wrong.
  • The exposed ends of the needles closest to the skin started to turn black.
  • Initially, she believed it was a mere illusion of the light.
  • After a closer look, she realized she wasn't mistaken.
  • The needles were indeed turning black—barely noticeable but unmistakable.
  • Her eyes darkened at the discovery.
  • Glancing quickly at Daniel, who was oblivious to the change, Whitney adjusted her position to block his view.
  • At the same time, her mind raced.
  • Blackened needles? Could it be that someone had poisoned Caden?
  • Given her deep medical knowledge, she knew this was a very real possibility. Her heart sank.
  • Half an hour later, she finished removing the needles with her back still turned to Daniel. She put the needle away as if nothing had happened.
  • "Caden hasn't woken up yet. Dr. Hampton, I'll leave him in your care for now."
  • Daniel wanted to say something, but Whitney had already packed up and left with her medical kit.
  • Marie was already waiting to pounce. She asked sharply, "Well? Is he better?"
  • Whitney found her presence annoying and rebuked coldly, "I'm a doctor, not a miracle worker. Treatment takes time. It's not something you can rush, so stop asking dumb questions."
  • With that, she shoved her medical kit into Shaun's arms.
  • "The therapy takes a lot out of me. Carry this for me, will you?"
  • Shaun frowned. Her bluntness surprised him, but he instinctively reached out and grabbed the kit.
  • Their hands accidentally brushed.
  • The softness of her skin took him by surprise, leaving him momentarily stunned.
  • Whitney felt the contact too and quickly withdrew her hand. She grabbed the kids and started walking out.
  • Within seconds, Shaun recovered.
  • His expression darkened as he contemplated the situation. This woman actually dared to boss him around?
  • Before he could say anything, Marie's sharp voice cut through the air.
  • "Whitney, who do you think you are? How dare you order Shaun around? You're just using Caden's treatment as an excuse to get close to him, aren't you?"
  • Whitney halted. She turned back with an icy, mocking gaze.
  • "You are overthinking this. Not everyone is interested in your family, especially not with you playing the wicked mother-in-law."
  • She paused for a moment, then laughed softly, her tone nonchalant but lethal.
  • "Besides, I've already experienced Shaun. He's just that."
