Chapter 13 Misunderstanding

  • "Crystal, did you see that? He hit me, he hit me!" Mrs. Granger's face was filled with indignation. "Just because I scolded him a little, he slapped me!"
  • "I told you! Men who've been to prison are all violent!"
  • "I didn't…" Dave looked at Crystal, trying to explain.
  • "Oh… My head hurts, Crystal, my head hurts... He's going to kill me." Mrs. Granger clutched her head and collapsed onto the bed.
  • "Mom!" Crystal rushed over. "Mom, are you okay?"
  • "Crystal, I'm scared. Quick, call the bodyguards—no, call the police! He's going to hit me again! Mrs. Granger put on a panicked act.
  • "Forget it, I'll head home." Dave turned to leave.
  • There was no point in staying. Violet was deliberately framing him and even pretending to be sick.
  • At Villa One.
  • Dave had just returned home when he received a call from Crystal.
  • "My mom's still complaining about her headache, so I'm not coming home for now." Her voice sounded cold over the phone.
  • "Whether you believe me or not, I still need to tell you—I didn't hit her. She slapped herself," Dave said calmly. "If her headache persists, I can ask Rufus to check on her and prescribe some medicine."
  • "I want to believe you, but..." Crystal took a deep breath. "Let's not talk about that right now. I need to ask you something."
  • "Was my mom poisoned before? Have you ever heard of the Venomous Sect?"
  • Her sudden questions sent a jolt through Dave.
  • "Wait, Crystal, who told you about the Venomous Sect?" Dave's tone changed slightly. "Never mind. These things are hard to explain over the phone. Come home, and we'll talk. I have some things to tell you as well."
  • He hadn't planned to tell Crystal about the Venomous Sect so soon, but since she brought it up, he figured it was better to be honest. After all, he would need her cooperation in the future. Keeping it hidden might cause more trouble later on.
  • On the other end, Crystal was silent for a moment.
  • "I'll try to calm my mom down first. She doesn't want me to leave. I'll find an excuse to come back later."
  • "Alright, I'll wait for you."
  • ...
  • At the Granger Residence, Crystal hung up the phone, her whole body trembling.
  • Dave really knew about the Venomous Sect!
  • And he is urging me to go home!
  • He must be planning to poison me!
  • No, I can't go back!
  • Shaking, Crystal pulled out the card Kaala had given her and dialed the number.
  • Two minutes later, Crystal dashed out of the house.
  • In the heart of the city, at a quiet cafe.
  • Crystal parked her car and hurried into the cafe. It wasn't large—there were about a dozen tables, half of which were occupied.
  • Kaala waved her over from one of the tables.
  • Crystal walked over, feeling slightly more at ease.
  • "Ms. Granger, you contacted me so quickly—did you notice something wrong?" Kaala made a gesture, and a server brought over a cup of coffee.
  • "Take your time; have some coffee to calm your nerves."
  • Crystal took the cup and drank two large sips, steadying herself slightly.
  • "Ms. Vennum, I'm sure he's with the Venomous Sect. And he might be planning to target me soon. What should I do?"
  • "How do I deal with someone from the Venomous Sect? Should I call the police? Or is there another way?"
  • "Ms. Granger, there's something I need to tell you—the Venomous Sect is unbeatable." Kaala's expression was grave.
  • "Then... what should I do?" Crystal asked, panic creeping into her voice.
  • "There is one way," Kaala said, her gaze locking on Crystal.
  • "There's only one way."
