• The next day, the sky was still dark when Lu Yao stirred from a movement on the other side of the bed. Her eyelids fluttered open with much effort, and she immediately noticed the empty spot beside her. “Yunchen,” she called out reflexively, her voice croaky.
• Her question was answered by a flash from the window which came from the headlights of a car, accompanied by the roar of a car engine. Lu Yao propped herself up and stared hazily at the pale yellow light. She waited for the engine noise to cease before turning on the bed lamp. Glancing at her phone, she realized that it was only 3 in the morning. Lu Yao quickly found Shao Yunchen’s name in her contact list and sent a text to him.
• The message notification on Shao Yunchen’s phone alerted him as he was editing a document with a stern look in the backseat of the car. The concentration and focus he had on the computer was not quite the same as his usual look that Lu Yao was used to seeing daily. Hearing the notification, Shao Yunchen found his phone without taking his eyes off the screen. He then swiftly glanced over. At the sight of the message, his tense expression dissolved.
