Chapter 19 What Went Wrong?
- If not because he noticed that the pair of shoes in front of the door was the one Lu Yao wore all the time, Shao Yunchen would have thought he got the wrong door.
- “President Shao.” Xiang Dongnan extended his hand, giving Shao Yunchen a friendly smile. “We met before in Heyue Hotel. I’m Xiang Dongnan, Lu Yao’s senior.”
- Shao Yunchen remembered him as soon as he introduced himself. Back then, he was going to have a meal with his client at He Yue, but he saw Xiang Dongnan and Lu Yao looking quite close, unlike how a senior would behave toward his junior.
- Shao Yunchen was upset, but he still shook Xiang Dongnan’s hand out of etiquette. “I’m Shao Yunchen.”
- When he noticed the girl who was playing with a tablet on the sofa, he reflexively glanced at Xiang Dongnan, thinking that the girl must have been his daughter. For some reason, he felt glad at that fact.
- Shao Yunchen went to the kitchen where Mrs. Lu and Lu Yao were busy preparing dinner. “Do you need any help?” he asked Lu Yao.
- “No. You’re our guest. Just go and wait in the living room.”
- Shao Yunchen’s brows furrowed when he noticed that Lu Yao didn’t even turn around, thinking that there was more to this dinner than it looked.
- Dinner was served soon after, and everyone sat around the dining table as they ate.
- Mrs. Lu started talking with Xiang Dongnang. As he listened to their conversation, Shao Yunchen understood that he used to be Mr. Lu’s student who was now divorced. Mrs. Lu seemed to like Xiang Dongnan a lot, evidenced by her occasionally taking some of the dishes for him, ignoring Shao Yunchen at the same time. It wasn’t a happy dinner, but at least it was not a silent one.
- Lu Yao made her move after they were done with dinner. “Please sign this, Shao Yunchen.” Lu Yao placed the divorce agreement in front of Shao Yunchen, her expression calm.
- “Didn’t I say I need to consider this?” Shao Yunchen knew there was more to the dinner, but he didn’t expect to be facing this. “Tell me, why did you go to my office? Why did you go off after leaving that ring?”
- Lu Yao was long gone when he rushed back to his office, leaving Fu Xuezi alone in there. When he went into his office, Fu Xuezi pointed at the ring on the table, looking as if she was trapped in a difficult position. “Yunchen, I was going to take Miss Lu for a stroll until you’re back, but then she got angry, leaving this ring here before she stormed out. She wanted me to give you this.”
- I just went on a business trip for a week and did nothing. Why did she suddenly make the decision to take off the ring? What is going on?
- “You bought that ring for me. I don’t need it now that we’re going to get a divorce.” Lu Yao chose not to expose him, for she didn’t want the situation to be awkward for everyone. “We’ve been married for three years, so for our sake, please sign this quickly.”
- Shao Yunchen could feel his throat becoming drier. “Why?” He didn’t want to give in. “Even you know we’ve been married for three years.”
- He thought they would get a peaceful divorce after four years, but when Lu Yao made this sudden move, it caught him off guard. He didn’t want to give up for now, the reluctance of which was beyond words.
- “Because I have someone I like.” Lu Yao glanced gently at Xiang Dongnan. “The man I love is willing to love me. He’s willing to marry me out of love, with no strings attached, and no prenuptial agreement.”
- Shao Yunchen understood what was happening when he noticed her gentle glance at Xiang Dongnan. When he remembered how he asked someone to help with Mr. Lu’s case, only to be notified that someone had paid all the bribe money and Mr. Lu was sent to jail, his face darkened.
- “So you got that two million from him?” Shao Yunchen laughed angrily when Lu Yao kept her silence. “Lu Yao, I did a lot for you. Just because I kept quiet doesn’t mean I did nothing! I just wanted you to talk to me, but what did you do? You asked someone else for help! How dare you?!”
- Xiang Dongnan quickly stood in front of Lu Yao, worried that Shao Yunchen might do something rash in his fit of anger. “Mr. Shao, since this is what Lu Yao wants, I think you should respect her wishes. It’s better if you part quietly with her.”
- Shao Yunchen glared at Lu Yao, who was behind Xiang Dongnan. He almost crumpled up the divorce papers, but in the end, he smoothed them up reluctantly before placing it on the coffee table.
