Chapter 7 I'll Divorce ASAP

  • Daphne took a deep breath and placed a diagnosis report indicating signs of miscarriage in front of him. "If my mother-in-law knows I'm pregnant, she won't allow me to divorce. If my husband knows, he won't let me keep the child. You're a doctor. You should understand how difficult it is for my body to conceive. I want my child to live."
  • She looked at him with eyes full of pleading. "So, please help me. I suggest you tell my mother-in-law I'm infertile. That way, maybe I can escape this h*ll of a family sooner."
  • The sincerity in her eyes made Jensen scowl slightly. He picked up Daphne's medical reports and examined them carefully. The consultation room was silent for a long time.
  • Finally, just as Daphne was about to lose hope, Jensen looked at her. "How long will it take for you to divorce? You and I barely know each other. I'm not risking my reputation and professionalism just to help you out. But I can delay sharing the checkup results with your mother-in-law by claiming your physical condition is extremely poor."
  • This was the most he could do for a stranger.
  • Daphne bit her lip, fully understanding his difficulties. She didn't wish to pressure him further. "I'll divorce ASAP."
  • After finalizing their plan, the checkup still needed to be completed. All day, Daphne moved up and down the hospital, undergoing various tests.
  • In the evening, Jennifer took her home. "Daph, I'm so glad you're willing to go through the checkup for our family."
  • After sending Jennifer off with a smile, Daphne returned home. Her phone rang.
  • The call was from her adoptive mother, Tracy Carson. "Daphne, your dad's medical expenses are piling up again. We need fifteen thousand dollars. Send it quickly."
  • Daphne replied hesitantly while holding the phone, "Mom, I've already given you all my savings…"
  • After marrying Hudson, he cut off access to all her financial sources and barred any company in Riverton from hiring her. Daphne could only earn money by selling illustrations online under a pseudonym.
  • When her adoptive father, Christopher Steele, fell ill recently, she had given all her earnings to her family. Now, she couldn't scrape together any more money.
  • "Daphne, you don't want to give money? Do you want to see your father die?"
  • Tracy began crying over the phone. "I told your father we shouldn't have adopted you, but he insisted on bringing you home! And look where we are now. Our biological daughter can't come back, and you've married into a wealthy family who won't help us at all! Your dad raised you for so many years. Now that he's sick, you still refuse to give us a cent! We're so unfortunate to have raised an ungrateful daughter…"
  • Daphne bit her lip, bitterness welling up inside her heart. "Mom, don't cry. I'll figure something out."
  • "Good, we need the money quickly!" After getting her promise, Tracy hung up without another word.
  • Daphne held onto the phone, listening to the dial tone for a while. They are always like this.
  • They knew she had a soft heart, so they always asked her for money and she would give them all the time. However, she only had three thousand dollars to her name now, far from the fifteen thousand they demanded.
  • She leaned against the sofa and thought for a long time before finally recalling someone who might help her. Taking out her phone, Daphne found Sierra Foster's number and dialed it. "Sierra, can you lend me some money?"
  • Sierra was a former classmate of hers, someone from a wealthy family who had a comfortable life but didn't do well academically. Back in school, Daphne had spent a lot of time tutoring her.
  • "Sure!" Sierra agreed cheerfully. "I'm at the Skyline Club. You can come over right now."
  • Without thinking about it too much, Daphne threw on a nicer change of clothes and took a taxi there. Sierra led her to a private room filled with greasy, bald, and overweight middle-aged men.
  • "Daphne, if you want to borrow money from me, I don't have any. But these men here are rich. If you make them happy, you'll have plenty of money."
  • A chill ran down Daphne's spine right away. She hadn't expected Sierra to bring her to a nightclub just to humiliate her! Her hands balled into fists beside her. Daphne raised her voice and said, "Sierra, if you don't want to lend me money, just say so. There's no need for this."
  • Sierra folded her arms and smiled. "Well, Daphne, don't you need money? Back then, Evelyn was good to me. I should be happy to see that you're in trouble now. But since you helped me a lot back then, I'm kindly introducing these rich and powerful men to you."
  • After saying this, she walked up to Daphne calmly, patted her face, and said, "Don't think I don't know what you've done. To win over Hudson, you even plotted against your own sister. Handling these men should be child's play for you, right?"
  • Her cool lips moved close to Daphne's ear. "A sl*t should act like one. Why pretend to be pure and Innocent?"
  • Sierra let go of Daphne, turned around with a smile, and said, "Gentlemen, this woman's all yours. Whoever likes her can do whatever they want with her. Just remember to let me know tomorrow, and don't forget our contract."
  • She also let out a charming smile at Daphne. "I'll make sure you have fifteen thousand tomorrow."
  • Sierra swayed her hips like a snake and walked out confidently.
  • Daphne's heart felt like it had fallen into a bottomless pit! She gritted her teeth, about to leave, but the door was slammed shut.
  • The men in the room burst into laughter, all turning their eyes to the fattest man in the room. "Jenkins, I remember you like the pure ones."
  • Jenkins rubbed his hands together. "She looks pure, but who knows how wild she might be!"
  • He stood up and made his way toward Daphne!
