Chapter 8 You May Continue

  • Daphne let out a scream, turned around, and flung open the private room door to run out.
  • Jenkins sneered at the door and immediately chased after her.
  • As Daphne ran, each step made her knees feel like they were being stabbed by needles. She could hear footsteps behind her. She struggled desperately but was still pinned against the corridor wall by Jenkins once he caught up to her.
  • He forced her against the wall clumsily, his greasy lips kissing her neck. "Young lady, why are you running?"
  • "Help!" Daphne cried out desperately with her hoarse voice.
  • Meanwhile, in an elevator, someone said to Hudson, "Mr. Jackman, regarding the next quarter's collaboration proposal, our company has prepared two versions. When would you…"
  • The elevator opened, and a group of people stepped out.
  • Hudson, surrounded by the group, listened to the collaborator's words as he walked coolly down the corridor.
  • "Help!" a woman's voice echoed throughout the corridor.
  • The group continued walking indifferently. In nightclubs, a woman's cry for help, pretending to resist someone but secretly yielding to them, was a daily occurrence. Everyone was already desensitized to it.
  • "Mr. Jackman, let's go back to the private room to discuss," the collaborator offered before smiling awkwardly at the sound of the woman's voice. "Next time, we'll definitely arrange a better venue for you. This sort of place attracts all kinds of people…"
  • Without glancing sideways, Hudson licked his lips. "It's fine."
  • Everyone continued walking forward.
  • "Help!" Daphne continued to yell while being pinned against the wall by Jenkins, whose towering figure blocked her entire field of vision. However, she could hear the footsteps of a group of people getting closer and closer to her! Finally…
  • As the people approached, Daphne struggled to stretch out her hand and grabbed someone's sleeve. "Save me!"
  • Her soft, hoarse voice made the man whose sleeve she grabbed frown.
  • Nathan Goode turned his head to Daphne and wanted to shake off her hand, but then he saw her innocent yet savage face. He said, "Daphne?"
  • Nathan's voice startled Daphne slightly, and she instinctively looked up at him. Instead of looking at Nathan, her eyes landed on Hudson, who stood behind him. He had likely turned around as well because of Nathan's exclamation.
  • Looking back at Daphne, his expression was first of surprise followed by mockery.
  • "It's Daphne!" Nathan turned to stare at Hudson in shock. "It's really her."
  • Hudson glanced at him indifferently. "I'm not blind."
  • Gradually, the rest of the group began to recognize Daphne. "Isn't this Mrs. Jackman?"
  • "Why is Mrs. Jackman in a place like this, and with… such an ugly man in the corridor…"
  • "Shh, I heard Mr. and Mrs. Jackman always like to do their own things. Mr. Jackman never brings her out with him."
  • "Who would've thought Mrs. Jackman has such poor taste? She's going after a greasy and bald man…"
  • Although the voices around her were hushed, the empty corridor transmitted every word clearly into Daphne's ears. She bit her lip, no longer daring to cry for help. Earlier, she hadn't made out who was coming over, so she had tried to get help immediately. But now that she saw Hudson, she wished she hadn't done it! Even if she ended up being taken advantage of, it was better than having Hudson look at her with such disdain and mockery!
  • "Mr. Jackman!" Jenkins greeted. Of course, he had heard the mention of Hudson's name. Now, hearing the people around Hudson say that this woman was his wife, he started trembling all over!
  • Hudson stood with one hand in his pocket, his gaze cold as he looked at the man's face, a sneer dancing around his lips. "Do you like her?"
  • Jenkins was drenched in cold sweat and didn't even dare to move a muscle.
  • Hudson spoke again, his baritone voice bearing a cruel tone. "If you like her, you may continue."
  • Daphne froze. Subconsciously, she raised her head to look at Hudson's face, filled with despair. She was being treated this way by another man and he didn't care about her at all.
  • Hudson's words brought instant silence to the corridor. Everyone stared at him in shock.
  • Even Nathan, who had always been close to Hudson, was stunned. He knew Hudson hated Daphne and that he had married her only to keep her close to him and continue gathering evidence that she had harmed Evelyn. Still, disliking her was one thing. Letting himself be cheated was another!
  • Was he letting even this fat guy touch his wife in front of everyone without caring about the humiliation? Even the others present thought Hudson had gone mad!
  • Jenkins stood where he was as cold sweat washed over his body in waves. He didn't know what Hudson's words actually meant. Did Hudson really mean to go ahead with this woman in front of me?
