Chapter 12 Unnecessary Apology
- I frowned as Mari fussed over me. She kept running back and fourth from the sink to my position on the couch as she ran cold water and grabbed bandages and ice packs. I watched her and felt my blood boil. Her movements were stiff and she bit back a wince as she leaned over the sink. I had to bite down on my lower lip to keep from flipping my lid. I was so fucking angry. Angry at myself. It was my fault that this happened. He hurt her last night. She won’t mention it but I know it’s true. And it’s all my fault.
- Despite yesterday’s anticlimactic end, I wouldn’t change a thing and I know that makes me a selfish person. I felt a surge a pride as I see the silver necklace shining around her neck. The puzzle piece reflected the sun in the most perfect way. And on top of that, I almost kissed her. I finally almost fulfilled my one true fantasy. I was certain that if her father didn’t show up, she would’ve let me kiss her and that made me all giddy.
- Still, I sighed and the giddiness faded as I saw Mari wince again. She was caring for me and my injuries even though she was clearly hurt and as much as I admired her for it, I cursed her for it.
