• The nurse raises an eyebrow. “You need to tell the police everything. I’ll send them in if you’re ready?”
• I nod quickly, still desperately trying to think of how Derek was at the bar when the police step inside my room. I don’t even wait for them to start speaking before I sit up and tug my sheets around me. “I know Derek. We were intimate before last night. I spent the weekend with him,” I spew out.
• The older of the two officers looks at me like I’m an alien. “Ms. Gates, you are aware that Derek Tyson is in a serious amount of trouble right now?”
