Chapter 5 Unable To Sense
- Horatio's POV:
- Inside the airport's fast-food restaurant, the door swung open, and in walked a woman with a stunning figure and beautiful features.
- “Are you the child's mother?” A captivating fragrance wafted from her, and my heart began to race uncontrollably. My blood boiled in an instant, screaming to be close to this woman.
- Her scent is intoxicating, just the laurel fragrance I adore. Oh, this woman doesn't seem to be a pure-blooded werewolf. There's another ancient bloodline running through her veins. Mysterious, dangerous, yet alluring... My wolf seemed equally entranced by her.
- A half-blood.
- Werewolves revere power, and half-bloods born of a werewolf and another race, even if they survive past childhood, grow up weak.
- I never expected that the adorable and robust pup named Sunrik was born to this half-blood woman.
- “Hello, Mr. Battleford! I'm Sunrik's mother, Silvana.” The woman smiled as she extended her hand toward me.
- Her voice is like the sound of a beautiful spring, so melodious and pleasing. It was the first time my wolf couldn't stop praising a woman.
- Felix, you need to snap out of it and not be fooled by her appearance! I scoffed inwardly, thinking she was just another vain woman trying to get close to me through a child.
- “Did you teach your child to run around claiming fathers?” I curled my lips into a cold smile, ignoring the hand she extended.
- Silvana retracted her hand, a forced smile on her face. “A child has only one father! Four years ago, in early autumn, after a fleeting encounter in the Stormclaw Pack's banquet lounge, his father, Horatio Battleford left me with a black card worth ten million!”
- What was she talking about? What new trick was this? Four years ago, I wasn't even in the Stormclaw Pack!
- “Sounds like a romantic love story,” I sneered, “but I don't have time for your fantasies!”
- Only Breccan was known for sleeping around. I would never just sleep with any woman.
- “Horatio!” Silvana snapped. “You took advantage of me and left me with a child, and now you won't even admit it!”
- “Miss.” My warriors stepped forward to protect me. “For the past few years, Mr. Battleford has been away dealing with affairs in other packs. You must be mistaking him for someone else!”
- “Who else could possibly have the black card with the emerald logo, if not you?” She was adorably furious, her petite frame seemingly filled with an explosive energy waiting to burst forth.
- “Maybe you found my card by chance.” I shrugged, strangely patient with this woman, as my fingers tapped twice on the table. “Besides, where's your proof?”
- Silvana hesitated. “The card... Quinley destroyed it.”
- “Hah! Without evidence, how can I believe you?” Quinley, that despicable woman. Do they know each other?
- Silvana pondered for a moment before suddenly darting toward me, executing a graceful spin that brought her to my side.
- My wolf expressed admiration. Incredible talent, perfect skill! She doesn't seem like a fragile half-blood. She's more like a gift from the Moon Goddess, a fitting Luna! Where's her wolf? I can't wait to see her wolf and confirm if she's our mate.
- Half-bloods can't awaken their wolves properly, I reminded Felix. She can't possibly be our mate.]
- An accident four years ago caused me to be forsaken by the Moon Goddess, making it impossible to ever find my true mate. Perhaps there was a one-in-a-million chance that the Moon Goddess would grant me a new mate, but it would never be a half-blood.
- As this strange woman suddenly got close, my warriors tensed up, ready to act, but I raised my hand to stop them.
- Then, with a swift movement, I wrapped my long arm around Silvana's waist, pulling her into my embrace. Her slightly toned abs brushed against me as I stared deeply into her eyes.
- She must taste sweet. My wolf growled with primal lust.
- Before I could fully savor her scent, this woman slipped out of my embrace as swiftly as a nimble puppy. Then, with a casual flick of her delicate hand, she nonchalantly plucked a strand of my hair.
- I narrowed my eyes, watching as she plucked a strand of hair from my head. “What are you trying to do?” I asked.
- “I'm going to have a DNA test done to see if you're really my son's father.” She smiled, a look of triumph in her eyes.
- A woman who would set up a trap, sending her young pup to the airport to claim a father, would care about evidence? Was she really here to find the father of her child?
- I couldn't help but fall into confusion.
- Or is she planning to use a fake DNA test to prove my blood relation to her son, so she could latch onto the most powerful Alpha of the continent's strongest werewolf pack?
- “Such a lowly tactic, utterly devoid of creativity!” I rose from my chair, no longer willing to indulge her in this game.
- I straightened my cuffs, and my warriors gathered behind me, ready to leave. “Ms. Lorimer, I've handed your son to you. Please watch over him, and don't let a young wolf pup appear alone in dangerous public places again. If it happens again, I won't hesitate to involve the Werewolf Alliance's Pup Protective Services Association to teach you how to be a proper mother to a werewolf pup.”
- “Wait!” Silvana blocked my way. “Are you back at the Stormclaw Pack this time to complete the mating ritual with Quinley?”
- Quinley? That scheming woman? I'm not going to marry her!
- I frowned in disgust. “What business is that of yours?” Could this woman really be in cahoots with Quinley?
- “If that's the case, even if the child is yours, I won't look for you again!” Silvana's determination was evident.
- Hmm? So, she doesn't like Quinley either.
- “No!” I denied. “I don't know Quinley well.”
- Ring! Ring!
- Silvana's phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it and quickly stepped aside to answer it.
- After a brief conversation, she opened the glass door. Before leaving, she turned back to say to me, “I have an urgent matter. Please watch my child for me!” and dashed out.
- She was so fast that even my warriors couldn't stop her.
- The little pup had been calm throughout, leisurely sitting on the chair. He gave a casual wave with his chubby hand. “Goodbye, Mommy, drive safely!”
- She just left the pup with a strange werewolf! Wasn't she afraid I might take him away and never return him? This woman had no sense of caution!
- “Alpha, we couldn't stop her.” The warriors lowered their heads. “We failed in our duty!”
- “Forget it, we underestimated her!” This woman was nothing like a half-blood. In just a few minutes, she showed depths of ability that are unfathomable.
- “Let's head back! Grandpa is still waiting for me.” I waved at the warriors.
- “Yes, Alpha!” the warriors responded in unison.
- “Also, Grandpa hasn't officially announced his retirement yet, so refrain from calling me Alpha in public.”
- “Yes!” The warriors' eyes fell on the cute yet troublesome little guy on the chair. “What should we do with this little one?”
- I crouched down and gently asked the pup, “Little one, what's your name?”
- “Sunrik Lorimer, everyone calls me Sunny,” Sunrik responded adorably.
- “Sunny. Hmm, nice name.” Shining brightly like the sun. That woman chose a good name for the child.
- “Thank you, Daddy, for the compliment.” Sunrik's eyes curved into a smile, revealing a cute dimple.
- Werewolf pups were extremely precious. Since that half-blood woman ran off, I couldn't really leave the pup alone at the airport.
- I rubbed my temples, feeling a headache coming on. I'll have to take him back.
- As we left the airport, nine black Rolls-Royces pulled up in a sleek line.
- I scooped Sunrik up with one arm and headed for the second car.
- “Wow, Daddy, you're so impressive and awe-inspiring!” Sunrik offered a timely bit of flattery.
- So cute, I really want to kiss him. What was up with my wolf today? It was completely smitten by the pup.
- “Ahem!” I sat in the car, straightening my back, my face returning to its usual cold, distant demeanor.
- As an Alpha-to-be, I should be cold, iron-fisted, and feared, not...
- As the car gently rocked, the little guy fell asleep. At first, he tried to keep his chubby little body from tipping over, but his head drooped lower and lower until he finally toppled into my arms.
- I wanted to push him away, but the soft, warm little bundle against my chest made my heart flutter, a warm sensation spreading through my entire being.
- Hold him! Hold him! My wolf urged.
- Involuntarily, I wrapped my arm around the kid, pulling him into my embrace.
- “Daddy smells so nice...” the pup murmured in his sleep.
- What was the little guy saying? I leaned in closer to hear him better, only to catch his dreamy mumbles clearly, “Daddy, the chicken drumstick smells so good...”
- Adorable little sweetheart! My heart softened as I gently ruffled his fluffy hair.
