Chapter 2 The Uninvited Visit

  • Quinley Yates' POV:
  • With the Stormclaw Pack's Alpha gravely ill in the hospital, I rushed over to make my presence known.
  • Who would've thought that Silvana, that wretched woman, would bring her child here to claim paternity?
  • Years ago, during a Stormclaw banquet, I'd set my sights on Horatio, the strongest werewolf in the pack, second only to the elder wolf king. Securing him as my mate meant a future of ultimate power and status.
  • To ensure my success, I used the mating drug I had prepared to trap Silvana, pouring half of it into Horatio's drink.
  • I pictured myself entwined with Horatio, while Silvana endured a humiliating fate at the hands of Breccan Battleford, a werewolf infamous for his depraved appetites. My plan was to expose her, to paint her as a power-hungry woman who had sacrificed her dignity for a mere taste of status.
  • I arrived at Horatio's room, dressed to seduce, already dreaming of our future children.
  • But Horatio wasn't there!
  • He'd gone to Breccan's lounge!
  • Panic surged through me. I had to send my aunt to salvage the situation. Though we managed to get Silvana banished, and no one suspected she was the one who'd spent that fateful night with Horatio, she still ended up pregnant!
  • That wretch stole the man and the child who rightfully belonged to me!
  • I glared at her, a venomous envy coiling within me. Motherhood had only amplified her allure.
  • Her skin was as white as snow, her deep, enchanting eyes radiating a mysterious, predatory aura that unsettled me.
  • I remembered Silvana as a weak, powerless half-breed who couldn't even awaken her wolf. How could she now exude such an intimidating presence?
  • Around us, the high-ranking werewolves began murmuring, their eyes fixed on Silvana's son.
  • "The Alpha has three grandsons, right? Which one could this be?"
  • “No matter which one it is, it definitely won't be the future Alpha, Horatio's. He's been away for four years handling affairs and hasn't returned.”
  • “Then it must be Alpha's second grandson, Horatio’s brother, Breccan's child. Everyone in Stormclaw Pack knows how he's known for being a flirt.”
  • Hearing this, I couldn't help but smirk.
  • Of course, no one would think to connect this child to Horatio.
  • I needed to get rid of Silvana quickly! Horatio was about to land and return to the pack, and I couldn't let him see her!
  • “Silvana!” I shouted harshly, “Get out of here now! Don't dream of using that brat to climb up the social ladder! Everyone in Stormclaw Pack knows what kind of person you are. Do you really think the future Alpha would have a child with a half-blood like you?”
  • “That's right.” The noblewomen nodded in agreement. “She must be desperate and poor, trying to pass off her brat as our future Alpha's child.”
  • “A despicable woman with ulterior motives! Throw her out!”
  • “Warriors!” I called out to the black-clad guards. “Throw this mother and child out. Don't let them disturb the Alpha!”
  • “Yes!” The warriors advanced together.
  • “This is Horatio's son!” Silvana shielded Starson with her body. “If anything ever happens to him, you'll regret it!”
  • “Hahaha!” The noblewomen burst into laughter, and even the warriors chuckled.
  • Seeing the contempt from everyone around her, I raised my chin proudly. So what if Silvana brings her child here? She will not even be able to get into the hospital ward!
  • “Silvana!” I sneered at her. “Your pathetic lie is so obvious. My fiancé, Horatio, has been away in another pack for years helping them deal with the Rogue crisis. How could he father a child with you from afar?”
  • Almost no one in the Stormclaw Pack knew about Horatio's return that night. Silvana, even after all these years, you're still so naive, thinking you could fool anyone with this pathetic charade. How utterly pitiful!
  • But then, to my absolute horror, Silvana pulled out a bank card.
  • “This is what Horatio gave me! The logo of Horatio is unmistakable!”
  • I stared at the small green wolf eye symbol on the card, feeling a sudden panic. I couldn’t believe it was real.
  • Horatio actually left this woman with evidence? No, I can't let this proof remain!
  • “Where did you pick that up? You're using a discarded card as evidence?”
  • I snatched the bank card and snapped it in half with a crack, throwing it into the trash.
  • Perfect, I've destroyed the evidence!
  • Seeing Silvana's shocked expression, I laughed smugly. Now, what other proof did she have to show that the man was Horatio?
  • To my surprise, Silvana raised her hand and slapped me across the face!
  • For a moment, I was utterly stunned. I never expected that the person who used to let me bully her would dare to hit me in front of everyone.
  • How dare this b*tch slap me?
  • “Throw this lowly half-blood and the illegitimate child she birthed out!” I knew I couldn't take her on physically, so I covered my stinging face and screamed at the warriors.
  • The warriors rushed at her, but in a flurry of punches and kicks, Silvana took them down.
  • The noblewomen and I were left speechless. The corridor was littered with groaning warriors.
  • This woman can actually fight better than she could back when we used to train together? Isn't she just an ordinary, even rankless, half-blood werewolf?
  • “You...” I was about to hurl more insults at her.
  • “Who's making all this noise out here?” Suddenly, the hospital ward's door opened, and a commanding yet graceful voice echoed through the corridor.
  • The air froze instantly. I clamped my mouth shut, and the warriors scrambled to their feet.
  • The person who stepped out of the ward was Rosalie Turner, Horatio's mother, a mid-rank intellectual werewolf in charge of looking after the pups.
  • I couldn't afford to lose face in front of her. It could jeopardize my chances of becoming Horatio's mate.
  • "Madam Rosalie," I quickly interjected, pointing at Silvana. "This is the half-breed troublemaker from that banquet years ago. I was just helping you get her out!"
  • Rosalie turned to Silvana. As if she recognized her, she frowned.
  • My heart leaped with joy. It seemed Rosalie remembered the disgraceful scene at the Stormclaw Pack banquet years ago when Silvana sold her dignity. She knew that Silvana was a lowly half-blood who would do anything for money and power!
  • “What is she causing a scene about?” Rosalie asked. “Stormclaw Pack has no ties to her.”
  • I quickly responded, “She's just an unreasonable shrew. We should just kick her out!”
  • “That's not true!” At that moment, Starson, who had been quietly holding Silvana's hand, looked up at Rosalie and spoke with both politeness and authority. “Ms. Pretty, I'm here to find my daddy, not to cause trouble!”
  • Ms. Pretty? Rosalie's eyes lit up as she looked down at the little one.
  • “This little guy looks a bit like my eldest grandson,” Rosalie said with a gentle smile.
  • Panic surged through me as I nervously watched Rosalie. Could she recognize that this was her grandson? Aside from Alphas, ordinary werewolves would not be able to tell a half-blood descendant!
  • “Who are you calling 'Ms. Pretty'?” Rosalie asked kindly.
  • “You, of course.” Starson glanced at me, then looked back at Rosalie. “Don't believe what this woman says. My mommy isn't a shrew. She's the shrew here!”
  • Rosalie was elated at being called pretty.
  • Unable to bear it any longer, I snapped, “B*stard, who are you calling a shrew?”
  • “She's using bad language! Did you see that, Ms. Pretty?” Starson pointed at me. “Isn't she the shrew?”
  • Rosalie immediately stopped smiling and turned to look at me. I quickly covered my mouth, feeling anxious about my outburst.
  • “But you should be calling me 'grandma',” Rosalie said as she affectionately patted Starson's head. “My grandson is about your age.”
  • “Then I'll call you Grandma! You seem so familiar. Perhaps you really are my grandma!” Starson responded.
  • No! I can't let them get close. What if Rosalie really recognizes him?
  • I panicked and turned to command the nearby werewolf warriors. “Warriors, throw this mother and son out this instant! The b*stard is disturbing Mdm. Rosalie!”
  • “Don't throw your weight around.” Rosalie frowned. “Just have the warriors escort them out.”
  • “No need for the warriors to kick us out!” Silvana grabbed Starson's hand. “We can leave on our own.”
  • “Mommy!” Starson grabbed Rosalie's clothes and confidently waved at Silvana. “I want to play with Grandma a little longer. I'll go back on my own later.”
  • “Sure, I love werewolf pups.” Rosalie happily picked up Starson.
  • A b*stard given birth by a b*tch. How is he already so cunning at such a young age? I was cursing inwardly, desperately trying to think of a way to stop Rosalie from getting attached to her own grandson.
  • Suddenly, inspiration struck.
  • I glared at Silvana from across the hall, but this time, a wicked smile crept onto my face.
  • Silvana, I ruined you once. I could do it again.
